[YUUVA] A New Challenge for a Old Hand - Party Presidency

Day 1,911, 08:31 Published in India Canada by Alias Vision

If you take away just one sentence in the whole of this article going forward, let it be this one:

On the 15th, I ask for your support and confidence to help elect me Party President of Yuuva.

The irony that one of India's oldest (age is relative really) citizens is seeking the leadership of the youth party is not lost on me.

To me that fact brings up two mains points. The first is that any leader of Yuuva has a trust he must manage and cultivate. This trust is not only to Yuuva itself but to India. We must feed the seedlings the knowledge and tools they will need to flourish and make the nation strong in the future.

That's a lot of fancy words to say... leaders must talk to the new citizens. Give them tips, give them help when they ask and put them in positions to succeed and be integrated.

Abhinay Gupta, the outgoing Party President and country Elder, has been a great shepherd for Yuuva. He has always said that the party would be the vehicle by which citizens would be elevated and permitted to participate in the affairs of State through means like Congress. This history and tradition must continue and should be the focus of any party president.

The second point is that with youth comes a certain energy. For veterans of the doldrums of the New World, we must shape that energy into something productive. We can also feed off that energy for renewal. And therefore Yuuva, youth, becomes the party of renewal as well.

I am not a revolutionary or a rebel. I am a conformist. A word that can be pejorative but in this case speaks to my willingness to mold my time and leadership ability to the greater good. Yuuva and India first.

I will not reform Yuuva, I will be its caretaker. My main goal for the coming month would be to introduce a new tradition of transparency and participatory politics for the members of the party. I wish to formalize a primary voting process by which Yuuva will choose not only their Party President but their Country President candidate as well.

This has two benefits: it encourages dialogue, debate and ideas. It also makes people accountable for the choices and when you introduce that to the equation you increase the momentum for keeping citizens involved and interested.

The second goal of mine going forward would be... words. I believe in the media and I believe in letting people know what is happening.

Recently I have made a greater effort to be present on IRC and available to everyone. This is new for me and still a learning process but one I will continue as long as I can (or until I can in trouble for it).

I will encourage members to write and members to read and support. In turn, I plan on doing more of both myself. Expect articles from me but also expect cooperative work.

Finally, a Yuuva presidency managed by me will be one of collegiality. I plan on forming party leaders and Congress representative into a caucus. Not to provide a voting block or try to control policy. Rather the goal is to educate and guide. Caucus will educate new players on the proper rules to follow, where to join the conversations and how to find the necessary information. Policy issues can be brought up and debated in caucus so that a more concise argument can than be communicated to Congress or the Executive.

Maintain tradition. Guide. Educate. Accountability.

Thank you for your readership, support and votes. Thank you mostly for your time.
