[WTP] The Mysterious Case of the WTP Primary

Day 4,574, 18:46 Published in USA Chile by Wilker Nath
Hello, I’m Johnny Cash

Cabinet update, I now have a second IES Liaison, and we have a group chat going with IES and a spreadsheet started.

Thee Dude will be taking over as Minister of Programs from H U L K starting tomorrow. He will now be the one shouting your daily food shouts in the party feed, and handing out that food. Big round of applause!

KingTaco is still my VP. Some new players may notice he is currently not in the party. You can fill yourselves in on that here.

It’s a crazy timeline we live in…

Positions on my cab that are still open include Minister of Media, Minister of Recruitment, and Minister of Elections. You can read more about those here.

Alright, into the meat and potatoes.

Wow, okay, so where to start here. I guess with the primary vote.

As I published here, the WTP primary included Dominar, and Tyler. 27 votes were cast in the voting period. Dominar got 13 and Tyler got 14. Easy enough so far.

...that was the only easy part, really.

This is the shout in the party feed that announced the winner of the primary. This was odd, given that I counted 14-13 in favor of Tyler. However, I did see that one particular member commented his vote twice on the shout meant for votes, a vote for Dom. If that was missed in the counting process (could have easily been missed, I wouldn’t blame someone for missing it) that would have brought the vote to a tie, and I honestly would not have begrudged if the way we chose to settle that tie was by choosing the candidate from our own party.

As you can see above, me and a few others chose to comment on that post to point out what I assumed was an honest mistake.

Before we got really any feedback from party leadership on that, though, we had this post.

Which quickly got shared around, because of course, and resulted in a lot of jumping to conclusions, because of course. Amid this jumping to conclusions, Dinnyin and Groot got into a big argument on the #general room of the eUS discord server, and that argument resulted in groot being kicked (banned? Not sure if there was a ban) from that server. Gonna be honest, I don’t think that kb should’ve happened. But what can I do.

This spat was really when I first started taking notice of it.

And here’s where I get to admit I made a mistake. I also jumped to conclusions. I assumed every vote was fair, and I assumed the talk of multis was part of Dom’s strategy to delegitimize the vote as a way to get himself nominated despite losing. For context, Dom is also the person who did this

And this

So that display of his choices that I’ve seen led me to believe something like I described was in his character to do. I got it wrong this time. I am sorry for that.

I do believe there is legitimate, valid concern for multis having voted in the WTP primary, and I will take this opportunity to say if any friends of mine do have multis in WTP, please stop. It’s not helping. Nor is saying that most of WTP is Dom multis, and that any legitimate players here should jump ship to a better party to let him in his echo chamber.

I think there are a lot less multis here than some people seem to believe.

Following the discord fight, we saw a lot of drama in the shout feed of WTP. A LOT of it.

Amid the drama was an accusation based only (as far as I can tell) on circumstantial evidence against one of our new players, Hippidy DoDah. The claim was that this account was a multi of Dinnyin. I had a brief conversation with her (Hippidy), and first impression, I don’t believe she’s a multi. I also don’t believe Dinnyin has any WTP multis, as outspoken against the party as he is.

This seems like a neat and tidy place to tuck this topic into. I’ve seen it said that “most of WTP is Dom multis because there were only 27 votes in the primary and 90+ votes last congress election.” I don’t buy it. Not everyone looks in the party feed, not everyone who knows its there even cares about it. On the other hand, for official in-game votes, the game gives you actual notifications. 2-clickers wake up for in-game votes, but not for primaries. I don’t think the amount of votes in our primary is unusual at all.

Which brings us to the part where I jump to conclusions some more.
I said that I assumed Dom meant to steal the nomination out of greed for power. I was in that line of thinking for some length of time during this event. One of the things I did was publish this article, thinking that announcing the results of the democratic vote for all to see will inflate the issue to cause some public ridicule for a PP who refused to follow a democratic vote.
https://www.erepublik.com/en/article/-wtp-tb4cp-congrats-tyler-wtp-primary-2718751/1/20

I did this even acknowledging that this wouldn’t be his first time ignoring a democratic vote.

https://www.erepublik.com/en/article/-wtp-never-a-dull-moment--2718335/1/20

But, despite that, I saw this anyway in the friend feed.

And then I saw this in the party feed.

So I PMed him to ask why. It was clearly a public spectacle even before I published that vote results article, so why the need for secrecy? Why not just tell the people who voted in the party primary why their votes were being contradicted?

I did wait a good 15-20 minutes after messaging, and I did see him online on discord during this time. Maybe I did get a bit impatient. So I started this, just to see if I could get more info from people's responses.

Which actually led to a really productive conversation about how to secure our primaries from multis. That thread is currently sitting at 42 comments. Wew. We even got a cameo from Rainy Sunday advocating on behalf of the forums.

Around this time, there was also another shout in the party feed from Dom which seems to have been deleted, and I do not have a screenshot of, confirming that the concern was multis.

So now we’re faced with what to do about the primary, given the large concern as well as the huge pile of hot takes we’ve seen today. Well…

I think svs has a good solution here. Any candidate we endorse will leave a bunch of people unhappy, so let’s just not endorse a CP this month.

The crazy thing is I wasn’t actually that invested in the result of the primary. Really. If Dom won, I wouldn’t have been worked up. It was only the assumption that he was trying to steal a democratic vote that got me worked up. Honestly, if he did win, I might’ve enjoyed watching the CP race more. I have endorsed Tyler, and I am confident that Dom will not beat him given the long list of scandals he’s gotten himself into this month. But if I got to see more yelly shouty articles and comments? That would’ve drained my popcorn stash and given me some enjoyment in this barren existence.

One more thing, I do apologize to the whole country for my letting my emotions rule me today. Good things did not come of it, at least not intentionally, I do consider that 42-comment conversation about primary security to be a good thing.

I’ll leave you off on a lulzy note, I want to assure all my readers that our problematic fave alien is still alive and well, and has been trolling the party feed for most of the afternoon into the evening, with the vast majority of his shouts getting deleted.

It’s a crazy world we live in, isn’t it?

Stay sassy.
