[WRP] - A view from Parliament - Issue 38

Day 2,399, 11:25 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Huey George

Introduction

Time for another 'A view from Parliament' and with the usual chance for you, my constituents to review how I've spent my time representing you in Congress so far.

Please also contact me via personal message to discuss any Congressional issues or concerns you may have as it's your right and my duty to listen.

Law Proposals

Natural Enemy
Norway has been proposed as Natural Enemy.

I voted No. At the time a direct war against Norway and more importantly her allies was strongly advised against by the MoD, vCP and CP as losing Scotland (a risk during a direct war) would have had drastic impacts on the UK economy as our Capital in Northern Ireland would have been separated from all but all our 'Fish' bonus while the benefits of occupying Norwegian regions only brings minimal 'Daily tax revenue generated by owned regions'.

The votes ended;
21 YES votes to 15 NO votes
As a reminder for this law to be considered accepted it needs 66% of the Congress votes... so it was rejected.

Trade embargo
President of United Kingdom proposes to stop the trade with Norway

I voted Yes. Very minimal impact on the UK however it prohibits citizens of an enemy nation to benefit from our economy.

The votes ended;
31 YES votes to 6 NO votes

MPP
President of United Kingdom proposed a mutual protection pact with Turkey

I voted Yes. A fellow Sirius alliance member who we are in a pact with for mutual protection, mutual advantage and mutual gain.

The vote ended;
30 YES votes to 3 NO votes in the UK
29 YES vote to 3 NO votes in Turkey

VAT & Import Taxes: Weapons

Value added tax (VAT) remains unchanged at 1%
Import tax remains unchanged 8%

I voted No. It seemed unnecessary to pass a law proposal which changed nothing.

The vote ended;
8 YES votes to 24 NO votes

Citizenship Applications Approved

Alexandru Antonescu
I approved Alex's application as he stated he would like to stay UK for a long time and really become a part of our community. He also seemed like a friendly and likeable guy. Based on this I felt I could place my faith in him being a fantastic addition to our community. However...he has since obtained Romanian citizenship...maybe the UK wasn't for him however it's a great shame he didn't give it more of a go and personally has kind of let me down as I do give great consideration to the use of my passes

helpmeslack
I approved helpmeslack's application as I remember him from his days in the UK and he seemed like a good fellow then and Alfagrem had asked me to consider it and personally vouched for his honesty, eUK roots and IRC activity. Additionally the on-off chats Alfagrem had with him whilst he was absent from 'new world were what kept Alfagrem informed, interested and eventually bought him back. So if helpmeslack brought Alfagrem back to the 'new world' and the UK. I believe he has done the UK a great favour so should be a part of our community once again.

Closing thoughts

I've hopefully given you an insight into how I've spent my time representing you in Congress. Once again I encourage comment however please let's encourage respect in public dialogue to set a positive example that elevates the quality of politics in our country. This should enable a more intelligent dialogue on public issues to attract all citizens to take part. So I ask you to bear this in mind with your own contributions.

A final note to new citizens please consider completing these Ministry of Finance forms if you require loans to upgraded your training grounds or you'd like some of the Emergy Fund Grants. You can also get food from the NHS if you are below level 30 (and fighting for a main stream UK mu etc.) For an update on the Emergy Fund it remains an issue discussed by the CP and his cabinet with Congress.
