~War Never Changes~

Day 426, 21:03 Published in USA USA by Benn Dover

Glitches in erepublik have gone berzerk. Alliances are falling apart. Justice? There is no justice in this supposed New World. I guess that's one thing that really doesn't differ between real life and this stimulation.

This is not an attempt to justify the new battle upon Portugal. This is not an attempt to make Atlantis look like the 'right' alliance. This is how I feel about erepublik currently.

The eWorld is not coming to an end, but it sure is changing. I haven't seen a "justified" war ever in eRepublik. War is often unjustifiable, considering that there are ALWAYS citizens against any given war. Alliances don't ameliorate this, but rather, are catalysts to the negativism that come out of war.

War on Argentina - unfair, unjustifiable
War on France - unfair, unjustifiable
War on Russia - unfair, unjustiable
War on Asia - unfair, unjustifiable
War on Portugal - unfair, unjustifiable

War no longer represents an act that is the final resort to a solution. It represents a simple alternative to actions that could be talked out over a longer period of time. It represents the true colors of what this game is - a game. It represents displays of boredom, power, and alliance obsession.

How can one speak for an aggressive act by Peace and, at the same time, speak against an aggressive act by Atlantis? The opposite is true, and many of us are guilty of the hypocrisy demonstrated, even myself. I cannot support the Portuguese war just like I cannot support the Argentinian war, or the Russian war, or even, in retrospect, the French war. But support has far been a factor in war declaration, and even involvement. Alliances have always been poisonour, not only to citizens, but to powerful figures in this world. Actions all over the world represent this; actions aforementioned. Alliances have, for the most part, been the primary catalyst to war. This is one aspect of the game that probably won't change for a long time.

In real life, war is looked down upon unless very strong reason and purpose is given. The American Revolution, for one, was very smart given the reasons shown in years prior. However, wars in erepublik are not the same as wars in real life. War is great, really. It stimulates the economy. It gets citizens active and playing the game more often. It has people buying wellness packs and gold packs, something that the admins have intelligently incorporated along with the war module. It gets citizens to show their patriotism, nationalism, and dedication to the "Good fight". But, in no way whatsoever is war the right choice in erepublik. I can say that in all honesty the US-Canadian war may have been the only just war in erepublik history, seeing as a good portion of it was used to test the war mod (Hospital bugs ftw!). But even this war had its problems, as many of you recall. If you look at real life and say "Hey, America's war on Portugal is in no way fair!", then you'd be 100% right. But if you look at this game and say "Hey look America is helping their alliance out, stimulating their economy, and making their citizens active!", then you'd also be 100% right.

Portugal, I still love you guys and I'm sure that a lot of citizens in America do too. I truly hope that our relations in the far and near future, even during the war, can be maintained even if a little.

Here's to "fighting the good fight".

Hoo-Rah!
