[WAL] On DAF
Walhallah
Somehow I am not surprised to see this debate during Odan's term...
however, I am afraid I have to agree with the idea that Government decides who is the Commander. That's the way it was intended to be and thats the way we have operated previously. In my opinion it is a MoD responsibility and not a CP decicion to make, I have always made sure when I was MoD that this was within my realm of influence. However, down the line it comes to the same as the CP is ultimately responsible.
So yes, Goverment (MoD) is capable of replacing the Commander. However with Power also comes Responsibility. The future of the MU and its contribution to eNL are the criteria we should judge against.
However, I do have my doubts about the replacement, and its motives. With regards to the vote, that shall be my guide to vote against this. I dont see a solid reasoning (besides "he is difficult to work with"), nor a solid replacement as Commander, with all due respect to Tim. Every MoD knows Weekstrom is a trustworthy yet somewhat stubborn guy who will always be there when needed. Part of the MoD job description is to see this through and make it workable. There have been times I was grinding my teeth as well because of miscommunication, yet in the end there can hardly be found a better Commander than Weekstrom for the MU, which is why I happily replaced myself by him.
Dont forget, just like any government job, Commander of DAF is a very demanding, time-consuming and in some respects creative job. And this one should be a politically neutral one. I dont see Tim, with all due respect, as an improvement. He has never played any role in DAF.
My advice is to vote NO until there is a plan. And if theres a remotely robust plan, that is not obviously influenced by personal dislike, the Commander has no choice but to comply. Art 4.2 stipulates that the Armed Forces have to be politically neutral. Replacing the current commander by the proposed one (which carries obviously the same party-membership-card as the CP) does not contribute to that.
I promise you personally that I will see to it that the Commander gets replaced if there is a remotely solid plan, if I can do anything to help (perhaps my old influence can still help). Weekstrom is a reasonable guy and I have no doubts that he is reluctant because he thinks its in the interest for eNL. Should there be a reasonable alternative, I shall personally go to him and ask him to give up the command. However, I currently see a political crucifiction, and I doubt that is what we need.

I mostly agree with you. The government is in its right to demand from Weekstrom to transfer the command of DAF over to anyone they like as long as this new person acts political neutral. If he will act politically neutral is only to be seen if he actually is commander. Right now he has only acted as a politician, which is of course not political neutral.
But I agree that Tim isn't a good replacement. Nothing personal, but his involvement in DAF is zero. DAF needs stability and a skillfull leader, which Tim isn't imo.
I won't vote against or for the replacement. I agree that it is the decision of the government, so then I should vote yes. But they asked me also my opinion (which isn't needed), and then my answer is: no I don't want Tim as new DAF commander. So I will abstain from voting.
Well he isnt clearly trustworthy as he denies to follow clear orders. But indeed as long as he agrees with the provided plans he is trustworthy. I want someone there who is always trustworthy.
who would fit that description, in your opinion?
I always thought he was trustworthy. I cannot believe he does this right now. In the end its just mutiny on a official eDutch property.
Don't worry I will reinstate him ASAP. Time to leave DAF for now I guess.
real mature.
More than your ridiculous post on forums
Well that is not the solution. We are DAF! No matter what happens, no matter who is our commander, we, the soldiers, we are the Dutch Armed Forces!!! United we stand, divided we fall...
I believe it's congress's task to replace the commander.
The government is for day-to-day management, congress is for long-term decisions...
Apart from that, yes, we need a good plan.
It seems a few people have been approached, and only the MoD was available. And then the vote was rushed using a quick procedure...
There is no rush! We need a good replacement, not the first one that pops up.
If a gov member will be the commander of DAF, I will start a MoNC against such a gov member, so that hopefully, we have a non-gov commander again.
Weekstrom was never appointed by Congress but by a Government ages ago. Are there Laws that forbit the CO to be Government member or is it just your own view?
Is there any reason why you have no confidence in a MoD who is DAF-commander at the same time?
I have my doubts / no-confidence about both the replacement AND the motives, yet I find that it's within the realm of the responsibilities of the government. It was when I became commander and it was when I appointed Weekstrom again.
I dont see a need to change my opinion now on that. However, I dont think this is a good decision.
I have slightly changed my mind.
The government can do the replacement after informing congress and getting their silent approval. Or if congress objects, a vote should be held where congress gets the option to prevent the replacement.
The government should inform congress of why the replacement is a good idea, so that congress can disagree or agree based on full information.
I take it it won't be a surprise Walhallah, but I fully agree with you. Even on my own stubbornness albeit it has its reasons as you will understand.
If a solid plan and replacement are presented there is not even the need for you to contact me as at that point I'll gladly hand over command. I'm afraid (yes indeed afraid...) it won't happen this term. Not only was it a completely wrong start (yet not surprising) from odan, also there will be no plan as I'm 99,9% sure there is no plan apart from getting rid of me which for a certain party and its (foreign) friends seems to be an all-time mission...
Opinion: On voting topic on forum,
Who will be the commander of DAF??? Weekstrom is most exp player in country think about that...
Again? Do the never quit trying? Sad bunch of players.
@Weekstrom; Don't put to much effort in it They are not worth it and I know your time will be better spend on other issues!
Don't worry ODAN is up to no good every December, when there are less congress members available to vote..
Just ignore the fights if Weekstorm is not commander. Next moth hope we get a decent cp.
Yeah him and several other dinosaurs.
Next month a decent CP would be nice but if that will help DAF?
