Day 1,143, 16:30 Published in Ireland Ireland by Dubhthaigh

“He who has a why to live can bear almost any how.” Friedrich Nietzsche.

Beginning a heartfelt and personal article with a quote, especially one from an author so distant to us in terms of century, ideaology and language, may seem to hold an inherent contradiction. And yet, despite this, at this time I can think of nothing more appropriate to say - his message remains as strong now as when it first touched paper:

Adversity on a path can never be allowed to overshadow destination. Through will and determination a new route must be forged, and the final achievement shall be all the sweeter for it.

I ask all of you now, as a Citizen, Irishman and classless orator, to hold together and fight as one for nation and people. Solidarity, respect and brotherhood must be the common thread that crosses political and personal opposition. The individual must work for whole, and will thus in turn be defined and empowered by that.

Has the real Ireland ever sat back and given up? Has eIreland ever sat back and given up? In this game the Phoenix is, to us, a symbol of threat and oppression. Well I know Ireland is the slumbering Phoenix, and as each ravine is encountered, and crossed, we grow ever closer to being able of rising from the ashes.

This government firmly believes that with adversity comes opportunity, and we will not allow the nation to give up hope. Every citizen has a crucial and unique role to play in this game, in this country of ones and zeros, and it is the duty of all of us to ensure that they can be realised.

During this term, whether it lasts a week or a month, you will see Finances better managed and more transparent than ever before. You will see professional diplomacy on the international stage like never before, you will see your vision of what is 'eIrish' become a reality.

Trust one another, trust the government. Together we can do anything.

Dubhthaigh, Vice President and Minister of Finance.
