[UKRP] - What the UKRP means to me

Day 2,252, 07:04 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Tommy M. Pickles

Dear eRepublikans,

Let me introduce myself briefly, I am Tommy Pickles, styled after the Rugrat. Because everyone loves Rugrats. And because my name IRL is Tom so it made sense (sort of).
I have been playing eRepublik on and off now for years, with varying degrees of involvement and activity. But now i’m back, and hoping to make a splash.
I have a decent amount of previous game experience, holding several roles in government, including being 9 times a Congressman, a MoF FX Trader, working in the MoHA, and even a messaging fairy at some point.

This is my first article since my return, so please be kind! I’m writing this article as part of the UKRP writing competition. If you’re a UKRP member get involved!
In this article i’m going to write about how I first came about joining the UKRP, what made me join and what makes me stay. Enjoy!

In eRepublik your party is a key part of your activity. It’s one of the main reasons we’re all here, to take part, make a contribution and hopefully make a good name for yourself by making a positive impact and helping your party. You do this not only for the rewards that follow, be it leading a team, or even becoming Congressman, but because it’s fun and you make friends along the way.
And maybe that’s the real point of eRepublik. It’s more than a multiplayer strategy game. It’s a society. It’s a place to meet new people from different backgrounds and nations, and befriend them.

And that leads me on nicely to UKRP. When I returned to eRepublik getting a job and joining a military unit was easy. But you have to give your party some thought. It’s a reflection on you and because you’re going to be spending some time in it and with its members, you should like it. Otherwise what’s the point?

The choice wasn’t so hard. I eliminated TUP quickly, it’s a massive party full of the same old faces. Nothings changed there. I also found it curious that the British Army, a military unit, would also have a party. It seemed a bit off. If the army rules a country, it’s not really a democracy. Then I came across UKRP.
Instantly it appealed. It’s a party I remembered from years ago, a party with a rich and successful history. I saw it was quite a bit smaller than I remembered it but that wasn’t a negative, quite the opposite. I saw the opportunity to help restore the party to its old state.

The relative smallness of the party made me feel as though it would be easy to make an impact and get a role and become active within eRepublik once again.
I was right, the members of the party i’ve found to be friendly and helpful. It also seemed as though some new faces were getting a chance to made an impression. Under the leadership of Madacaion the party seems to be making steps in the right direction.

I was given the role of Recruitment Team Leader, thus proving my thoughts correct, anyone can come here and be involved.
And that’s what’s keeping me here so far, I feel a part of the UKRP, that i’m not only giving to it but it’s also giving something back to me. A sense of happiness and achievement.
The recruiting is going well, along with my team of Richard Vaughan and Ralph Connery. With input from Madacaion and Lord Walter William Henry Horn also proving beneficial.

I’m quite satisfied with my return to eRepublik so far, i’m pleased with how things are progressing and looking forward to bigger and better things to come.
I would urge any new player to give UKRP some serious consideration. I’ve been a member of so many parties over the years I forget half of them, but UKRP is right up there with the most friendly, helpful, and ultimately best of them.

How will you help make a change for the good?

Thanks for reading. Kindest Regards,

- Tom Pickles.
