[UK] Fallout 3?
10 Downing Street
So that happened too.
Yesterday morning a resistance war was opened in the Colombian-occupied region of Yorkshire and Humberside. Despite tremendous allied support, an epic air battle (not actually an epic, though if Plato is watching, it really should have been) and the campaign swinging first one way then the other, it ultimately failed. The defeat became apparent roughly around 11pm BST last night, after Greek air support turned the battle for Colombia with the incentive of some crazy COs.
So how did this all come about? Back during the early days of my term, I had come to an agreement (which I intend to honour) with the President of the USA for a training war and liberation of certain British territories. Sporadic attempts to liberate various regions took place, without Government approval or support, which were always liable to fail. I had made this clear enough, and noted such in the national feed on several occasions, yet the RWs were opened to allow for some semblance of activity. I made a further proposal, which I believed to be perfectly reasonable. America accepted. Colombia didn't, proposing only to release London, the frustration of which finally resulted in yesterday's battle.
Which brings us to this morning. The USA have begun their first offensive in our mutual Training War, and within minutes of that battle opening I received a fresh proposal from Colombia. Here you can see it, and my response.
As you can see, I have made not unreasonable requests. I remain quietly hopeful of negotiating this as an agreement in the near future.
Thank you to all who fought valiantly yesterday, both as nations and individuals, friends old and new.
Congress
With a new Parliamentary term upon us, I would hope that the new make-up of the Commons will be somewhat more active than the last. Beyond a handful of members, barely an eyelid was batted during what has been so far one of the most active terms in the UK for months. Should this continue to be the case, then the UK might as well be under a dictatorship, since hardly anyone has bothered to question decisions. I want an active Congress. I want an active UK. I want people to realise that diplomacy takes time, and things aren't going to happen overnight. I want open and frank debate, constructive criticism and more involvement. I want a TUP that doesn't have to have third party MPs to prop up their own failings. I want people like AMD and Appleby to be as critical of me as I was of them (constructively, of course). I want people to wake up. Sadly, this doesn't seem to be the case and should this continue I fear that the eulogy for the country has already been written.

Rest are flags and separators. Still no idea why a minority can't see imgur embedded images...
I get the broken images in IE/Edge, but it works fine in Firefox/Chrome. I've only noticed it in your articles, the images in Mitte's latest article for instance I can see in any browser.
Don't know if that helps any...
Looks like an issue with IE/Edge/Win phone not liking imgur for some reason. Changing to a public DNS (Google, for example, or OpenDNS) or whitelisting https://i.imgur.com might be a fix, if you're technically minded. Some ISPs did block imgur for a brief while too, though I'm not aware of any that still do...
I really don't want to go back to using photobucket 🙁
Images are broken for me too - currently using Chrome browser on iPad Pro/iOS 11
I don’t think the general rot of the game is any worse in eUK than in countries of comparable size. It’s a game on the decline, not a lot we can do about that.
I look forward to being able to see Colombia’s proposal, but I don’t feel like anything other than their removal from our regions will be acceptable.
We shall see. It's back in their hands now, and I'd like to see what they come back with. On the positive side, there'll be plenty of opportunity to fight.
I'd agree that the situation isn't any worse in the UK than elsewhere, just a shame so many of the big names of yesteryear seem to have died or fallen asleep.
If you want constructive criticism don't rely on Congress, let the public know what's going on. Not every active citizen is in Congress.
They should be, at the very least. Perhaps it's time some of the small parties swallow their pride and actually merge with/take over larger ones. Considering 60% of other PCP's candidates took up the top 5 TUP slots, you can see where I'm coming from.
I see no reason for two parties with very different ideologies to merge. Working together for common goals while maintaining our individuality seems to work fine for everyone involved.
Congress should just be a rubber stamp for more general consensus, if you can't be arsed to get public opinion for the stuff you do, that's on you.
Government has always been the place active players go to actually do stuff without the political shit. Successive governments has stopped letting people apply for some reason.
I understand where you're coming from, but ideology really counts for nothing when you have to rely on the goodwill of another party to have a say in Congress. You only need to take a look at the real world parties to see the disparity in ideologies of members of the same party, and the impotence of those left out in the cold (anyone else remember the SDP? 😉 )
Sorry, Rory, I disagree. Congress is elected to represent public opinion, and it's up to the members of Congress to seek that. Otherwise we'd be having referenda on every single nitpicking last vote.
I'd have been happy to entertain anyone who wanted to be part of my cabinet, even though I had long had people in mind for certain positions. Unfortunately the only person who bothered to talk to me about a position was AecioNeves, and we all know how well he did (banned yet again).
Given the current governmental situation, I'm not sure your argument holds water - do you really think the DUP would have more say in how the country is run if they had merged with the Conservative party before the last election?
How are congress supposed to gauge public opinion if the discussion about an issue happens only in congress. I.e leaving Orion
Surely just doing it in public is easier, more transparent, and engages more players.
"very different ideologies"
Game has about 3 buttons lads, if a party is willing to run your trash for congress then you're effectively after the same button combination
I'm amazed there are people that only play this game because of the buttons they get to press. The only thing that keeps me coming back is the community - being in a party that shares my ideals is part of that. But you have fun with your buttons if that's what floats your boat.
Well I think the general impression I get is that you are doing a good job.
However complaining Congress is not participating when you put up a vote to leave Orion 1 day after raising the topic for discussion doesn't give people time to formulate opinions let alone give them time to say anything. Compare this with what happened in France.
Quoting from Mitte's article - "France is voting today if the want to stay or leave Orion. Before they put this on the congress bulletin ingame they have discussed it on their forum for the most part of October with a closure of a forum vote with a majority of the votes in favour for leaving Orion."
48 hours, but let's not nitpick. Part of my concerns is that we have historically spent far too much time talking about stuff (or not, as the case may be) and not enough time actually doing anything. Sure, it might not be the most democratic way of doing anything, but left to Congress it would have been ignored or forgotten. Yes, perhaps another 24 hours or so might have helped, but the button was always going to be pressed by me (and would have been significantly earlier had events not overtaken us).
Thanks for the kudos though, Paul. Whether I'm doing a good job or not is kind of subjective. I wanted to give the country some activity after so long in the doldrums. On that score, I'd call it a success, though not exactly in the way I'd hoped when I was first coerced into running...
I guess as the voted passed it may not have made a lot of difference if there had been substantial discussion. I think the big problem is a lack of interest in what goes on across the spectrum. So few people are interested in foreign affairs that it's impossible to have any proper discussion so you end up with 1 person doing it (most recently Aaron). Interestingly Wayne claims it's people like me that have ruined eUK and I've always thought it was people like him - I guess the main problem really is what Arrlo has stated above. If we had lots of new players joining who were fresh with ideas and a desire to participate it wouldn't matter if old players left. I was only reading yesterday an article about Norway where it appears there are more Congress seats than voters!
I don't think any of us are far off the truth with our statements.
Good to see at least some of you are still alive and thinking. Stay (as) strong (as possible), UK. I might as well request the citizenship here when I request it RL :3
I suspect that more people would contribute if every comment from another party was not trolled by the usual suspects.
I found the congress thread very off putting from the usual negative "banter" clowns.
