[UK] A Public Apology from Connor West

Day 1,289, 20:53 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Connor West

Hello, UK. I feel I should address the issue of this past month’s Congress elections, namely the PTO. Yes, I know it’s a bit late, but I had to work through a fit of denial, depression, shame, and finally acceptance of the reality. There is a certain thread on our country forums that tries to pinpoint where the blame for this atrocity should go (it’s locked, so please don’t try to continue the arguing). Keep in mind that hindsight is 20-20 and it’s very easy to point out things that could have been done differently now that we know the outcome. However, in the thick of the moment, nobody knows exactly what’s going to happen. Nobody can predict the future. There is no doubt in my mind that the entirety of the UK kept its’ interests at heart, regardless of how some feel about it.

Having said that, I do feel I have a few questions to answer. The first is: “Did you do all you could as Party President to lessen the PTO threat?” The answer to that is No. I didn’t. My first big test as Party President, and I failed miserably. I could easily dismiss this and say, “The APP has a very small active member base. I wasn’t able to get the candidates and votes we needed to secure the threat.” Most of that statement is certainly true. However, I didn’t ask for much help from other sources. I could have extended a hand to smaller parties to gain some candidates to fill our seats, talked to other Top 5’s and the military about blockers and have been in relatively good shape (and caused Artela less of a headache). But I didn’t. I underestimated our aggressors and didn’t take the proper course of action, even when warned.

On that note, I’d like to come to the defense of ESO, who is bashed up and down in the thread I refer to in the first block of text. They filled their seats and prevented any PTOers from running in their Party. I don’t understand how they can come under so much fire for doing their part, when I could easily be held personally responsible for 4 PTO candidates getting into Congress (and I do find it very strange that I’m hardly mentioned at all). Prevention is the only way to keep out PTOers. Mobile votes on Election Day don’t work, as we saw with these elections. Also, I think props should be given to UKRP and TUP for also filling their seats and preventing any PTOers from running in their party.

So, UK, if you’re looking for a place to put some blame, I can easily take quite a bit of it. There truly are no excuses for my poor performance, so I won’t try to make any. All I can ask is for your forgiveness. Let my mistakes be a lesson to us, though. Proper preparations are vital in preventing Congress PTOs. Small parties and unaffiliated individuals: reach out to APP and PCP during election time if we don’t reach to you (I won’t make that mistake again if I’m ever PP again). I’m sure we’d be happy to have you run under our banners.

With regret,

Connor West
