The Unity Party: PP Election and Policies

My Friends,

The party presidential elections are once again upon us; I am again asking for the votes of members to be the president of TUP for the coming month.

This last month has seen TUP do some great things, particularly politically. We elected all 16 of our congress candidates, we participated in party conference and came up with a great set of policies; many of which we have already pursued. And we elected MIK as president on the 5th, providing opportunities for younger TUP members to try their hand in cabinet.

There is a lot more to do, but I am really proud of what TUP can do when it mobilises itself politically. Now, those political actions need to be backed up by action.

My role as president of the party is separate to any work that I do for the government; I think it's important that even governments of our own party are held accountable, and I will be looking to see our policies enacted on the national stage.

I'd also like to single out two of our members for praise. That is not to say that others aren't doing good work too, but these two in particular have impressed me with their approach to the game this month.

They are: Palacedom and Hidden Titan.

As MoFA Dom has done a great job of talking to foreign governments in a professional and courteous way. He is already building connections that I know will be useful to the UK in the future.

Titan has started well in the MoE / MoHA too. He's bossed me around to get NPF done and he's started up the national lottery again, and I know he has plans for some fun competitions and awards later in the month.

I think it's important to encourage our new players when beginning in unfamiliar roles and I'm sure you'll join me in congratulating them in the comments.

I'd also like to provide for you in full the list of policies the party has adopted from party conference this month. These formed the basis of MIK's manifesto but they are TUP policy independent of his government too; I will lobby him to press forward on any of these I haven't seen implemented yet!

By category, here they are:

Defence

1. The government should provide regular supplies to our troops on discord

2. Clear communication on orders via PM to commanders and tanks

3. Weekly MoD articles explaining the week’s orders- even if just explaining training wars

4. Be vigilant looking for war opportunities, but do not rush into a conflict without a plan

5. Provide rank up rewards to players for air rank increases

Foreign Affairs

1. Seek to rent spare resources to allied countries at a reasonable price

2. Look to continue to have a training war at all times so players can gain TP medals

3. Be a good ally and fight in allies battles when possible; they will do the same for us if needed.

4. Send players around the world as ambassadors to learn from other countries

Education

1. Support the New Player Friday program for new players

2. Make NPF more consistent and vary its selection of missions from week to week

3. Create a new program to subsidise houses for new players

4. Introduce a mentorship program pairing a new player with an older player

5. Have an intro article as a permanent fixture in the ‘first steps in erepublik’ section of the news. This should have basic explanations of how the game works and point players to the UK tutorial and as many other guides as possible.

6. Training ground grant for new players- possibly one for finance to look at.

Finance

1. Maintain a 2% work tax unless expenditure increases beyond the funded level. Seek to add to reserves by a small amount each day.

2. Initiate an interest free loan scheme for new players to upgrade training grounds beyond the grant level, or for upgrading companies

3. Articles explaining the impact of tax changes

4. Maintain import taxes of 1%, so our citizens have access to the cheapest possible goods. Anything higher unfairly benefits a few wealthy company owners above our own citizens

I am proud of the policies chosen by TUP and would encourage other parties to try something similar; I would look forward to any debate regarding the merits of different parties policies!

Finally, don't forget that the 15th is PP election day. Vote for your preferred candidate (preferably me if you're in TUP!)

As always: Unity is Strength!

Talon Karrde
President of The Unity Party.
