[Tommasino] A Personable President - Home Affairs #2

Day 498, 08:15 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by MDU Press Office

Dear all,

Following my declaration of candidacy, yesterday saw the Economic Plan & Part #1 of Home Affairs in a rather lengthy document - thank-you to those who took the time to read it in its entirety. Today I'd like to talk more about myself as a Prime Minister, a little more about government spending & of course FUN. This will take more of a letter format than a manifesto.

Being Prime Minister
In my mind there are certain essential qualities a Prime Minister must have. He must be self-confident, innovative, trustworthy and above all reliable. I put myself to you as being all of these. In the last 5 months I have come a long way, dedicated myself to various areas of eUK life - and enjoyed it. I have performed every position I have found myself in to the best of my ability, be that Party President, NHS Director or Under-Minister of Foreign Affairs.

A candidate can list policy after policy to you and talk on ends about the reforms they intend to implement, but something I have realized in the past few months is that just as important is simply being available, being in regular contact with the public & being organized.

You need someone who understands the inner workings of erepublik. Someone who understands the effects tax changes will actually have, someone who understands the war module, someone who has a good knowledge of all areas. Again, I put myself to you as that person.

The NHS
I've had a couple of questions put to me since yesterdays economics part #1 release about the NHS, so I thought I'd take this opportunity to answer it. I believe the NHS should budget at no more than 10k GBP a month. We're currently down to 12-13k GBP so this is a good start, and as the NHS gets back into swing I'm confident it'll settle down to a lower level than this anyway. (This excludes the Military Field Clinic)

Also there seemed some confusion that I was perhaps proposing further reduction in service of the NHS. This is not the case. For the meantime we must continue to keep a close eye on the NHS and make sure that the cost is worth the benefit. We've had a recent change in level of service, so of course this must be trialled and we must see how it suits us as a nation.

Publicity
The legislation needs to connect more with the public. The easiest way to do that in-game is through the media. We must see more publication of information. The Small Business Association for example which was heralded as a breakthrough organization has not published an article in 3 months (and the last shout out a month ago)- people simply will not use services they are unaware of. Remember that the forum active user base is relatively small compared to our population. Even if its re-posted articles, we need to keep in better contact with the public. A Tommy Tommasino led government will see the closest contact with the public that eUK has ever seen.

Reliability
Legislation needs to be acted upon. There is no point having legislation that is largely ignored or for other reasons cannot be enacted. For example, the Freedom of Information Act (an MDU initiative), was passed some months ago, but "Sensitive" debates are yet to be disclosed even though they should have been. If we are to keep the public connected with the executive, Government must act upon its promises.

Any other questions about my candidacy, do not hesitate to ask either myself, or any other MDU politician. Likewise, I would love to hear your comments, please write them below.

Yours ever faithfully,
Tommy Tommasino
