[Thomas] A story...

Day 1,984, 20:48 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Thomas765

It was Day 1,282 of the New World, alliances fighting amongst themselves as per the norm for eRepublik. In quiet eUnited Kingdom, war raged on to conquer Ireland. Artela was country president at the time and for a month we were stuck in between two alliances - Terra and ONE. On this day, something out of the ordinary happened.

The population's best allies at the time were France, Germany, Serbia and Hungary. They liked Serbia, of course and Hungary but we had a special bond to France in particular, with whom we created the Strasbourg Treaty, which was essentially a small, informal alliance between the UK, France and Germany. Our friends were enemies of Poland.

So what happened that day was an extraordinarily gushy, declaration of love article that had no prior congress discussion or anything of the sort that was aimed at Poland, which can be found here.

The reaction was immensely unpopular among the pro-Strasbourg camps in the eUK, as you can see from the comments of the article. Being the naïve, simple congressman self that I was, I was also against it at the time.

Ultimately, despite proving to be an unpopular action from the government at the time, it has been one of the best things we have done in the last two years. Why? I can guarantee that we would've been wiped a lot longer than 3 months if we did. I can guarantee that we would be more crippled than we already are, politically, financially and militarily.

To compare with the MPP with Romania

There has been an even greater butthurt reaction to the inevitable than I actually thought there would be. Why? Political gain. Big Ant is not publishing his article because of honour, he's published it because it gains him support for the country presidential election, given that his sole aim is to crush TUP these days, it's surprising that he actually gives a shit about signing with Romania. Afterall, he can't say anything as he asked me during his January CP term to initiate talks to get the UK a USA MPP.

At any rate, the story about the MPP with Romania is little different to the one when we opened up talks with Poland for the first time. Just like then, we lose allies that have fought for us, we have to make bold decisions to get further in the long-term. This isn't a short-term, mind boggling plan. It's an idea with a large degree of basis around it. However, the differences are that the MPP with Romania actually had a discussion in congress, albeit on the forums. I will admit that it never got into the in-game PM because I don't have access to it.

Things happen for a reason. The MPP was not done on impulse, it was done with an extensive degree of planning. Sure, the MPP was rushed through and it was still passed but the effects will be no different to signing with Poland for the first time.

Ask yourselves a question

We are a member of TWO, who has until recently been closely aligned with the Circle of Trust. At some point in the near future, the two alliances will go to war. Who do we support? Our traditional allies who have helped us out more directly - Hungary, Poland, Serbia, Slovenia and Spain - or CoT, who've only been around to help in MPP battles, who could've asked the USA, Germany or Russia to NE Argentina if the alliance truly cared for the UK's position on the map?

Remember that the effects of the Romanian MPP will be difficult to reverse and that a portion of UK damage will still go towards both Romania and Bulgaria. I will be one of those citizens, happily wearing a British flag fighting for Romania.

Views are my own etc.
That, I believe, is all for this article.
