[Thomas] A story...
Thomas765
It was Day 1,282 of the New World, alliances fighting amongst themselves as per the norm for eRepublik. In quiet eUnited Kingdom, war raged on to conquer Ireland. Artela was country president at the time and for a month we were stuck in between two alliances - Terra and ONE. On this day, something out of the ordinary happened.
The population's best allies at the time were France, Germany, Serbia and Hungary. They liked Serbia, of course and Hungary but we had a special bond to France in particular, with whom we created the Strasbourg Treaty, which was essentially a small, informal alliance between the UK, France and Germany. Our friends were enemies of Poland.
So what happened that day was an extraordinarily gushy, declaration of love article that had no prior congress discussion or anything of the sort that was aimed at Poland, which can be found here.
The reaction was immensely unpopular among the pro-Strasbourg camps in the eUK, as you can see from the comments of the article. Being the naïve, simple congressman self that I was, I was also against it at the time.
Ultimately, despite proving to be an unpopular action from the government at the time, it has been one of the best things we have done in the last two years. Why? I can guarantee that we would've been wiped a lot longer than 3 months if we did. I can guarantee that we would be more crippled than we already are, politically, financially and militarily.
To compare with the MPP with Romania
There has been an even greater butthurt reaction to the inevitable than I actually thought there would be. Why? Political gain. Big Ant is not publishing his article because of honour, he's published it because it gains him support for the country presidential election, given that his sole aim is to crush TUP these days, it's surprising that he actually gives a shit about signing with Romania. Afterall, he can't say anything as he asked me during his January CP term to initiate talks to get the UK a USA MPP.
At any rate, the story about the MPP with Romania is little different to the one when we opened up talks with Poland for the first time. Just like then, we lose allies that have fought for us, we have to make bold decisions to get further in the long-term. This isn't a short-term, mind boggling plan. It's an idea with a large degree of basis around it. However, the differences are that the MPP with Romania actually had a discussion in congress, albeit on the forums. I will admit that it never got into the in-game PM because I don't have access to it.
Things happen for a reason. The MPP was not done on impulse, it was done with an extensive degree of planning. Sure, the MPP was rushed through and it was still passed but the effects will be no different to signing with Poland for the first time.
Ask yourselves a question
We are a member of TWO, who has until recently been closely aligned with the Circle of Trust. At some point in the near future, the two alliances will go to war. Who do we support? Our traditional allies who have helped us out more directly - Hungary, Poland, Serbia, Slovenia and Spain - or CoT, who've only been around to help in MPP battles, who could've asked the USA, Germany or Russia to NE Argentina if the alliance truly cared for the UK's position on the map?
Remember that the effects of the Romanian MPP will be difficult to reverse and that a portion of UK damage will still go towards both Romania and Bulgaria. I will be one of those citizens, happily wearing a British flag fighting for Romania.
Views are my own etc.
That, I believe, is all for this article.

I, for one, cannot wait to see BigAnt's wall of brainless babble. It'll be hilarious for everyone to see.
Poland had been working with our allies Serbia and Hungary for 3/4 months before we MPPed them - whereas Romania have been working with (some of) TWO for what... 3/4 days? There are similarities, but this has been rushed through much more quickly and shoddily. We don't even know if they are willing to fight for us against any of their old allies yet.
That is also true. So why not give them a chance instead of making them a complete write-off?
We can give them a chance to prove themselves to TWO without an MPP. If they succeed we go for it, if they don't we don't. That way we don't backstab half of our MPP list in favour of an unproven former enemy.
We've only backstabbed one country on our MPP list directly. Why should we care for countries that allowed one of our enemies in? Haven't we also been backstabbed?
If the USA were at war with a TWO member like Romania is at war with a CoT member you would be correct.
The USA has threatened war though and has been doing so for months. Our so-called "allies" accepted them in regardless.
yeah, don't see how it can be propaganda where it is more a soul-searching piece which essentially asks questions about how we decide on allies...it is a simple truth that on this game it is not possible to be completely inconsistent due to changing loyalties between all the various countries, partly caused by changed in governments or even mood swings by presidents 😛. Add Real Life issues to the mix for even more of a headfcuk...and don't get met started on treating citizens of a country as an incongruous mass! Really we should know better to be on a game that promotes Total War, with diplomacy playing second-fiddle!
And you also have to remember that Serbia done the same thing with Romania as they had done before with Poland. There is no difference other than the reasons for doing it.

Poor propaganda and what matter little as all happens sooner or later, why and how is what has any value.
You fail miserably in both, good luck to you
Can you even construct a sentence?
I always was curious about people who branded what is effectively a list of candid facts as 'propaganda'
It's alright, anything the CoT doesn't like is branded as propaganda.

I cyprysy mają swoje kaprysy.
Overlooking the subject, I like the branding/formatting/image-blocks of your article. Really stands out fromwhat you usually find on eRep articles.
(And good article also).
Nice article Thomas. Ultimately through, this decision to MPP Romania is a parallel to Bulgarial leaving EDEN when EDEN decided damagehood meant more than brotherhood. It's all about the damage

"We've only backstabbed one country on our MPP list directly. "
Day 1,984, 22:16
thank you for at least admitting it that you are backstabbers
Because CoT isn't by bringing in eUSA? Hell the very reason we have Poland sat in Wales is incase the USA tries silly things.
You're right. We're such loose cannons over here, having TW's with Indo and Mexico...
Thomas765 = ledge
I like the images.
Also gotta mention o/
"Who do we support? Our traditional allies who have helped us out more directly - Hungary, Poland, Serbia, Slovenia and Spain".
Spain is vetoing Romania. Please remove us from that list.
You cant veto someone that hasn't even applied for membership but yeah, cool. 😁
Have you read any UN journal? Most proposals that can be vetoed are vetoed before they're presented, and thus, do not ever get presented.
eRep alliances are not bound to the same rules as the UN... derp!
a veto is a veto, always. The threat of a veto is as powerful as the veto itself
xD
Miau
MPP Rumania, you cretins, and your path to the pig side will be complete.
Where's BigAnt screaming about how terrible Romania are and how great allies Bulgaria is? Perhaps he saw all the Bulgars tanking against eUK in Wexford? Good allies there.
voted and subbed
voted, great article. I remember when we left terra. I was completely against it, but looking back now, I think it was a great decision.
im running for CP according to Thomas, that is incorrect like alot of things he says 😛
What are the other things he got wrong in this article? As I wasn't around in day 1,282 and don't really know the history with Romania, Bulgaria etc... I would truly like to hear what the real facts are.
Note: This is an honest request for education, but please only respond if you have actual contradicting facts, I'm not asking for another diatribe on how incompetent everyone but you and the party you're currently in bed with is.
