[The Idiots guide] Running for Prime Minister

Day 1,073, 22:51 Published in Australia Australia by patti11

With 4 of the latest 5 topics on the forums being about running for Prime Minister, I thought this article will help a lot of people out.

So you think you have what it takes to run eAustralia? See if you have made it through these not so simple 3 steps first.

Communication

Scan the first 3 pages of the Newspapers rankings for Australia. See your paper? Good, you communication is well enough to run for the top job. An ability to communicate well is the most important trait a Prime Minister can have. For those who have been around long enough, I can cite you to the dark days of Cozza, Tim09, Cerb who just couldn't cut it the communication department.

Remember, an inexperienced Prime Minister who can communicate will always be elected over a skillful one who can't.

[bStep 2. Experience[/b]

Top 5 Party President
Senator
Senate Speaker

Been two of these roles? Good, you move onto this list:

Deputy Prime Minister
Minister for Defence
Minister for Finance
Minister for Foreign Affairs

If you have held two of these roles, congratulations! You are eligible for the role of Prime Minister (and no, deputies do not count).

While I mentioned an inexperience Prime Minister who can communicate will get elected over an experience player who can't, that doesn't mean you will be a good Prime Minister. Again, I will cite some past Prime Ministers: Cerridwen Voeland, the Prime Minister who signed Australia into a shocking 5 month NAP (Non Aggression Pact) with Indonesia, Cozza (again, he really was quite shocking as PM 😛).
Of course, there are some exceptions to the rule, most notably: Aussie Vegeta. Aussie Vegeta was Australia's youngest (ingame) Prime Minister, who rose to Deputy Prime Minister in the space of 3 months, and the top job in 4. Aussie, who was a extremely passionate player, although held a number of high roles, didn't have the ability to run the country and effectively was a puppet of a number of other players. Experience is thus, also (ingame) age.
Very few individuals will have the ability to wing it for there first term, let alone get elected for a second term (fun fact, only 4 times has a Prime Minister in Australia been elected for a second term.

Step 3. Time

If you have made it this far, you only have one more criteria to meet, and that is time. Ask any past leader of any country (important country, no asking Uruguay), and they will tell you that being leader is a full time job, and can require you to be on eRepublik up to 7-12 hours a day. If a war is on expect half of this time to be overnight, and expect to be crucified if you miss an important deadline. Make sure you have the time, and are willing to commit the time.

If you don't satisfy this criteria, don't run. Instead, work your butt off and garner the necessary experience and start writing articles. It'll be worth it in a couple of months.
