[The Fourth Leaf] The IUP, Military Unit Consolidation and A Caption Competition

Day 1,764, 15:16 Published in Ireland Ireland by Leprechaunlad

Hello from Leprechaunlad
Hello everybody!
As the proud recipient of a couple of brand spanking new medals, 2 of them ''True Patriot'', I feel it's for the best that I enlarge ''The Fourth Amendment'' section of the TFL today to discuss some of the current issues regarding defence policy. This is why today, we're going to be in political debates and analysis. Therefore, today's article will consist of:

The Fourth amendment
- Does the IUP represent a new force in Irish politics?
- Would Military Unit consolidation be good for Ireland?

The Fourth Guinness - Jokes, humour and wit - today with a caption competition!

The IUP: Positive undercurrents
The IUP is one of the oldest forces in eIrish politics and until recently, seemed to be in decline. However, behind the somewhat aspirant but nondescript goal of ''emphasis on a free and united Ireland'' lies a much stronger tinge of political activity.

Under the current Party President, Lord Jeffrey, the Party has undergone what he personally terms ''a transformation'' and certainly, judging by member numbers, there has been some serious improvement. My own personal experience of the familial and cheerful nature of the party seems to have been well reflected in the last PP elections. However, the IUP still remains a comparatively small party, battling it out to retain 3rd place in the national rankings.

These next congressional elections will provide a firm test of the success of Lord Jeffrey's reforms to both communication and the creation of a new MU. They come at a time of development; the party is still in the process of substantial change and the results of these elections will most certainly be vital. I would urge all readers to talk to one of the members of the IUP, ask about how we work and see what we can do for you.

MU consolidation

A large pressure group have lobbied for the amalgamation of all MU's in eIreland into one fighting syndicate or at least further central control with regards to the activities of the MU's:

IK will support a system where clear orders are given, damage is not wasted, and soldiers are loyal. - Lexone

Why do we need a bunch of random and uncoordinated MU's who have the same goal but no way of achieving it? Answer: We don't. - Leo Demidov

As a small nation we cannot fight effectively if we're constrained by too many uncoordinated MU's...there is only one answer to this.We must all band together under the Irish Army - Malbekh

Irish Minister of Defence Seanan stated that he was firmly in favour of Malbekh's ideas, although this policy of conglomeration has yet to be, to my knowledge anyway, a rigorously imposed government dogma, Thanatos the Great has been assigned the task of making the IA more attractive to citizens (in this, I wish him good luck). Of course, this idea has massive good points to it: A centrally controlled and coordinated fighting force would allow us to direct damage where we need it the most as a nation, which would undoubtedly be significantly better than MU's led by political/independent leaders who pursue goals which are generally (but of course, not always) in the interests of their particular group.

However, despite this, there are some bad points...A point of debate is whether or not the sense of collective identity fostered by a national, rather than a much more localised political or social grouping would be enough to help new players stay in the game and help the military units remain fun. Furthermore, many players oppose the move for political reasons:

Labour's Army is an ideological union of soldiers and will stay apart from any rag bag collection of MUs that is cobbled together.

Comrades united! - Winston Hope Smith

I personally believe that greater military integration is definitely within the interests of a small nation but it is a process requiring much care and attention through the combined efforts of the Ministries for Community and Defence, allowing party and social groupings to remain while strengthening us as a nation.

Your comments and opinions on this would be most welcome guys, I'm intrigued to see how you all see this.

The Queen (lets keep topical!)
The two O'Briens stood on the Mall in London, among thousands of flag-waving people. Not being sure what was going on, they asked a bystander. 'Is there something special happening?' 'Indeed,' remarked the man.

'It's a royal wedding.' Just then there was a fanfare of trumpets from the gates of Buckingham Palace. 'What's that?' said Pat O'Brien.

'That's Her Majesty the Queen,' said the bystander.

'By God,' said Pat. 'She can play that trumpet!'

Come fly with me

The drunk rang Dublin airport and inquire😛 'How long does it take to fly to New York from Dublin?'

'Just a second,' said the receptionist.

Thank you,' said the drunk and replaced the phone.
