[SA] Currency Report: Been A Long Time

Day 761, 06:46 Published in South Africa South Africa by Enoch Root
Back in MM Trading

It's been around 5 months since I've published one of these. I'm finally back onto the MM scene, though. The market is a lot different than how I left it.

I've got a lot of ideas about how to make the Report better than it was, and every now and again I'll throw a few extra pieces in here, such as profitability analysis of certain goods sectors (like Q4 food, for example), Treasury Income data for various countries, stuff like that.

How Did I Do This? ...Oh Yeah...

So, for those of you that remember how I used to do these, I'm going to be trying a few things out that might be a little different. Maybe I'll throw some graphs in here, maybe some charts, maybe I'll use the old setup I had. For today, since it's the first day, I won't really be able to show the changes in value over time, that'll come in the next article. Today I'll record Currency Values down, tomorrow, I'll note the changes in the values.

One thing I'm looking to change from the old reports: I'll be reporting the change in the price of gold, and use both changes to note the difference in the spread.

Resources

An excellent resource for people unfamiliar with trading: John Sykes' newspaper. That link will take you to a comprehensive list of National Banks of the eWorld, as well as links to his series on Currency Trading.

eRep Tools offers an excellent at-a-glance look at the markets. Remember to always verify the correct prices by checking the actual in-game MM listing, but this will give you a good heads up on where you should be putting your money. Gecko Tools was also really good, but is unfortunately discontinued at this time.

War is the main driver of currency value changes. For this reason I highly suggest that you follow right along with the eRep In Maps series.

Liaoning and the IRR

A prime example of why you need to follow the wars and their causes is Iran and the IRR. Once Iran loses it's high iron region (which is under attack by the eUS, read the DoD orders), the IRR will not be able to hold it's strength. You can expect to see a lot of IRR change hands right up to the end of the battle, and then, if Iran loses Liaoning, a large sell off of IRR as the multitude of Iron Companies located there try to dump their IRR, knowing that they will no longer have a use for it.

The sell off comes in two parts: One is a surge of offers to sell IRR, the other is a hike in the price of gold for IRR. Companies that cannot wait to sell IRR will have to buy gold, causing the price to climb. In many cases like this, the market is cleared of any gold within reasonable price. People placing offers to get large amounts of IRR for their gold will be able to profitably undercut the benchmark, and the IRR sellers will move their offers down accordingly, to keep up.

eBrazil vs. eAus and the AUD

As you can see by the drop in the value of the AUD, this has already happened in eAustralia, following the loss of two of their regions recently. The devaluation as far down as 0.017 marks an 8 point drop, a 32% decline from the former standard benchmark of 0.025. Keep an eye on eAus, once they start pushing back into their own regions, and especially once WA is retaken, you can expect the AUD to return to it's former strength. For now, it proves to be a bit risky, but very profitable via spread trading. 6% is very good, and if you time it right, you won't have much of a wait to sell your AUD. The end of the eBrazil-eAus battles everyday prove to be the best time to have your offer ready for purchase.

I have below, a similar setup to what I used to use. I'll play around with the formatting on it a bit to see how it looks best.

Explanations

Alright, Name is the name of the currency, Price (G) is how much of that currency it takes to buy 1 gold, Price (Cur.) is how much gold it takes to buy one currency. The Profit % is how much profit you would see form one sell/sell cycle. The Change (G) will be the change in the Price (G) since my last report, the Change (Cur.) will mark a price change in the Price (Cur.), and the Change (Profit😵 will mark the difference in the amount of profit to be made off of a single sell/sell cycle. The 3 Change columns will be filled in the next Report.

All my data is gathered via the eRep API.

Maybe I'll go back to putting pics of girls in my articles. Depends 😉 Let me know what you think.
