[Return of the MDU] Some Thoughts by the Founder
CV James
And so, pending the results of tomorrow's party president elections, it looks highly probable Forward Britain! Party will fall into the pit of fellow "failed" parties and the Movement for Democratic Unity will be reborn like a phoenix from the fire. As the founder of the MDU, I would like to offer some thoughts on these events.
Background
I declared the establishment of the Movement for Democratic Unity on October 16th 2008 following my election as PP of the disastrous People's Zeteticst Party (a party that stood on the belief of a flat-earth). For those of you who have membership to the old forums, you can read the declaration here: http://uker.forumotion.com/public-discussion-f51/a-new-force-for-a-new-world-movement-for-democratic-unity-t5136.htm?highlight=movement+democratic
Granted, the initial manifesto was hardly groundbreaking, but we stood for something -
Equality; recognising everyone had an equal right to speak their opinion and run for office,
Unity; Mudslinging matches were all too common every election, and they were boring
Democracy; law was to be controlled only by those democratically elected.
And this was what was unique about the MDU. We stuck to our guns.
The MDU was new, it was fresh and it offered new citizens the chance to have their voices heard, something the more established parties of the time didn't. I created a Party Cabinet to devolve the power, to encourage party unity and to let citizens get more experience and knowledge. The inspiration drew great players to the party; Big Boy Bulley, Json, Richard York, Oexis, thehorseltd, dobis and of course Tommy. It was not long before we had pierced the top 5 and we had our own Congressmen. MDU members in many cases led the way on many issues, such as Richard York's fantastic foreign policy articles.
Peak & Decline
As a small party, politicians were encouraging, praising growth, but as a top-5 party, all this suddenly changed as fellow parties saw us as rivals, as competition. The party became complacent in its position, and despite a peak of 8 Congressmen, holding 21% of the legislature, the party achieved little. Ultimately, members because disillusioned and following the establishment of the Liberal Social Democrats, the MDU lost many senior members. The downward spiral had begun, and despite changes in leadership and motivation, nothing could be done.
Reform
This was why the reform to Forward Britain was made. We must not forget the party's 5th place position was already being challenged before the reform - and consensus with the party was that reform was necessary, although various ideas of changes existed. Robalbinio and Tommy led the reform with my support, although my involvement in top-table politics came to an end here at my own decision. Tommy worked damn hard for the party, whilst boat-jumping, glory following backstabbers sneered and joked at him. In effect, he was bullied and tormented on the forum by a flock of immature, insecure fools. And for what? For holding true principles - for not going back on them and fighting for his beliefs. It is a shame Forward Britain! failed, and it is a shame it's name was tarnished and slandered before it had the chance to begin its work.
Elitism in eUK = Epic Fail
I do support the return of the MDU, at our peak we had good times, we all got on and we had our own social community. But the situation is not the same now, and I am skeptical as to whether the rebirth will achieve anything, and whether the MDU is best left where it is, in our pleasant memories. Outside the Top-3, it is near enough impossible to achieve any lasting success. Remember the 313ers? The Right Party? The UBP? LTU? eUK has built a system of elitism, and this elitist attitude has been allowed to develop. Those outside the Top-3 will enjoy little success or support from anyone within it, and new fresh ideas will always be shot down by those who see themselves as the old guard. Add to that self absorbed citizens with an inflated sense of their own ego, and arse-licking fools, and to be outside the Top-3 is a situation of no hope. I have been a victim of this elitist bandwagon, and I have followed many others in the path of disillusion.
I truly respect thehorseltd and dobis, they were great, hardworking, enthusiastic party members, and they remained faithful throughout - they have my very best of luck in their campaign, and I hope all goes well. But I warn them to do so carefully, and cautiously.
eUK politics is not a nice place to be.
As dedicated party members, both thehorseltd and dobis have spent a great deal of time in the MDU - they are perfectly suited to a successful return, and this is why I will be endorsing them for Forward Britain Party Presidency.

"Remember the 313ers?"
We became The Unity Party and had some success with our re-branding. We've never to my knowledge been outside the Top 3 in our History.
I disagree with Elitism being ripe in the UK if I'm honest. Look at TUP only a few remain from the "Old Guard" which I class as the 313ers (Myself, Eadie, Jasperking, CBall, Paul Hudson and Relic among others.) The leadership is quite new and fresh. Same can be said for PCP and UKRP as well really. The Top 3 regenerate quite frequently.
I think what you mention about elitism is a very good argument. You tend to find in communities that have been building for a long time, which obviously the eUK has, that as you said, people see themselves as the old guard, and that makes it near impossible to appeal to people in a greater good sense, as they are un-open to new and revolutionary ideas.
Voted and subscribed 🙂
Pustevnik, you have summed up what my point has been for months now better than I could have. A game draws continuing new members to our eNation. Certain citizens see themselves as this 'old guard' and so there is a stagnation of leadership.
We were a community of friends, not really party. Once that collapsed, so did the party. A badly pulled off rebrand didn't help and the party fell, simply because the only policy was anti-HoL
Thanks for your kind words CV! 😃
I hope the rebrand goes well MDU is something I feel I could get behind again and really push forward
Best of luck horse
and good article CV 🙂
Thehorseltd left and then joined LSD and later UKRP.
As opposed to yourself, who joined us from the UKRP, then left to join someone else, then joined UKRP again, then left them, and now you want to go back to MDU, (or more or less along those lines). Hardly loyal to a party.
@F😨 You make a good point, 313ers were successful, I take that back. On the other point, I disagree. Some, not all, but a vocal few of the older citizens are rude, aggressive and patronising towards younger members - the existence of the HoL is evidence to Elitism still existing.
MDU was the first party I joint, and i'll always have a soft spot for them as a result. Disappointed when it switched over to FB!, and it's nice to see it returning to its roots, so I wish you guys all the best.

Whos rude ?
Gimme one example 🙂
HoLs job is to fix mistakes made by younger members, if we close our eyes and let the mistakes pass, they'll just repeat again 😃
Nice article... I don't agree with the thing you have against ending "tyranny" in the eUK, though. But nice article about the MDU and FB!.
CV James, I left UKRP when it was inactive, I didn't see the point in an inactive party. Then I joined you guys for a don't know how many months. Then as a party everyone left so I returned to the UKRP, but just ended up getting forced into things, so after I brief spell in a party for independents I rejoined the MDU on the invitation of both Tommy and thehorseltd (they asked me separately)
@Relic: Shadow, Brodie in particular; an awful lot of older members come across as patronising, condescending and rude.
