What is the cost of change? Well it depends on the nature of said change of course but in the context of the New World it often means personal losses. It usually represents a realignment or transformation of the community you are part of to some new configuration.

The change of political parties can signify a loss of influence or relevance.
The change of military units can signify loss of material support.
The change of country can mean the loss of resources, support, friendships.
The change of alliances can signal a shift from colonizer to colonized.

Leave at a time of crisis and you may very well be branded a traitor, have long time collaborators turn their backs on you, and give the opportunity to each person with an opinion (and we all have those) to condemn or judge.

It can mean all of that and more... it can also represent gains.

Personally, as I am a very little fish in a very big pond, I have lost influence and relevance since I have moved. I have also found a new support structure that has met my needs every step of the way. I have interacted with my Government more in a couple weeks than I had in months. I have been carried by my Party and welcomed in a way I wouldn't have dared to hope for. There is no doubt in my mind that I am today able to serve my new country because of the work done on my behalf by those that are my new colleagues. Thank you.

More telling still, I have had more contacts and exchanges with foreign citizens and private American voters than I have had in the past at any given time with the exception of my time as Country President. In other words, change has meant for me an opportunity to be more engaged, more willing, more active.

The cost of not changing would have been much steeper and may have ultimately led to more permanent departures.

It is from this perspective that I now ask the question: what is the potential loss/gain to the US as the situation changes faster and faster in the New World? What is the potential cost to our country if we do not become pro-active in the face or current global realignments?

Not so long ago, the alliance of ONE could have appeared to the outside observer as a monolithic, unstoppable force. We now know that the masonry was less than perfect and there were some major faults in the foundation.

ONE did not change, it instead held on until it suffered loss and as the costs of those losses mounted, it suffered collapse after collapse.

TERRA and EDEN were the immediate beneficiaries of the instability of their nemesis. As defeats accumulated for ONE and many nations suffered to ignominy of having no Congress, TEDEN then took on the guise of Giant amongst men.

But the ground beneath the feet of TEDEN has turned to clay. As the pillars of the alliances slowly sink, the satellite members slowly get submerged by the rising waters of change.

If nothing is done, the costs will continue to mount and the change will potentially amount to permanent losses.

This is not an indictment of our Executive. This is a motion to support a need for change. We need to start the conversation now in an effort to keep our community as strong as it can be.

I have seen the organization this country is capable of and I'm the first beneficiary of the dedication and hard work some are willing to put in. I hope that we, as a community, as alliance brothers, will seek to shuffle the deck and strengthen our suit.

Images aside... start talking. Approach current close allies like France, powerhouse China, and other important friends to recast the alliance and our ties. Start talking to old opponents before they coalesce into a new monolithic entity aligned against the US.

Change the diplomacy and be pro-active before the costs become too large to resist.
