[President] A sad day in eSweden

Day 1,508, 23:15 Published in Sweden Sweden by Valnad
We will face the reality of being wiped from the map today.

I have stayed up all night long, seeking support, delivering every last bit of my own gold and energy bars to come up with more influence, just so that we could defend against the Finnish attack in Norrland. But victory was not to be ours tonight. We fought a valiant struggle, but the attack was coordinated well together with Russia, and the most important battles were all fought late during the night, local time. When we and our allies went to bed, USA stepped in and tipped the scales again.

I came to office with a plan of being part of something grand. I told my voters to give peace a chance.

In times of failure, you always ask yourself the same question: what could I have done different? Well, truth be told, I shall sleep with a very clean conscience tonight (today).

I stood my ground during the night, I sent out hundreds of messages and tried to reach the Finnish CP all day long, but no man is an island. Too many have wanted to see us burn for too long, and when the bloodhounds picked up our scent, it eventually became an overwhelming force to defend against.

Options were given and our aggressors could have chosen other solutions, solutions that would have been more prosperous for us all. But Finland and Russia both decided that they would rather see us gone, and there's not much anyone could have done to change that.

Why the pact was broken; a summary for the history books

Bad things started happening within Scandinavia after the summer of 2011, and the previous Swedish governments played a big role in the troubles that eventually made both Norway, Denmark and Finland shun away from our country.

When the first war between Finland and Sweden eventually came to this world, after 4 years of peace, our neighbors told us that they only had one objective with this war: to liberate Norway from Swedish occupation. We were told that they had no interest in warring Sweden and that it was in fact our own government who had refused to co-operate, and by that we had given them no choice but to march to war.

The response came quickly, as the power balance in Sweden began to change:

- Jim Parsons, President of Sweden, was impeached when the story of his involvement in the Norwegian PTO affair started to unfold. This had never happened before, except for the time when Per-Otto abused the game rules and retreated every region to Norway (an act that made admins change the war module btw). Algaroth was also impeached a few years ago, when his internet died and he could no longer log on to the game. In other words: this was the first "real" impeach based on political motives in our four year long history.

- A new political party was in the making, one that put Scandinavian interests at heart, and they quickly gained majority in the December congress election.

- Diplomatic meetings between representatives of all Nordic countries were held and Sweden vowed to help out in fighting off the Serbian PTO-group who held control of Norwegian regions. I was representing Sweden in most of these meetings and I personally guaranteed that I would make sure that Norway would be reimbursed for the money that the cheaters had stolen from their national bank account.

- Plans were made on how to release the regions back to Norway without resistance, paving the way for Finland to invade the Norwegian regions held by Sweden.

- I launched my President campaign, clearly stating that my main objectives were to try and find a peaceful solution to the Scandinavian wars and to help Norway get rid of their PTO threat.

Yet, here we are, with Finland choosing to wipe us from the map when there had been plenty of time to settle for another possible outcome.

Some will say that it's because we're in ONE now and that they're fighting for the other side. But then it's funny that it should start at the same time as Russia attacked us, especially considering the fact that Sweden did not attack Finland during the 9 months after we left EDEN, even though we had a larger population and more influence during all this time.

Others will say that Swedes would never have learned their lesson unless they got wiped. But I don't think that there's a lesson to be learned from this, simply because some players will never change. And the more you try to beat them by brute force, the stronger they'll become. By wiping Sweden off the map, forces much less diplomatic than the side I represent, and with no desire to have peace within our region, will gain momentum. It's ironic that Sweden decided to put me in charge the very same day that we're getting wiped off the map. Regardless of whether our previous government deserved this kind of punishment or not, our current one most certainly does not.

But in the end, all that can be said about this is that the turn had finally come to us.

As one of the last - if not the very last? - country to be wiped off the map, we'll at least go down with our banner held high and in one last, valiant charge against the enemy lines, who were superior to ours in both numbers and strength.

And to my Finnish friends and supporters - I ask that you continue fighting the good fight. Whether you're supporting ONE, EDEN or TERRA, there's still a shred of hope that we may find a peaceful solution to the Scandinavian conflict. But choosing to wipe us will of course leave a deep wound, and the scars from your coordinated attacks with Russia today will never fully go away.

During all these months when Sweden had the superior strength and opportunity to attack you, we always stayed our hand. When we were in ONE and the pro-One Estonians held all of your regions, he still helped you out. The senior leaders in our two countries - a group that I nowadays consider myself to be part of - had vowed to maintain the peace between our countries, no matter what. Unfortunately, we seem to have collectively failed to teach our new generations the value of this code of honor.

Let's just hope that they have learned it by the time the tables are turned again.

With tired eyes and a sting of sorrow,

Valnad,
President of Sweden
