[POTEUS] ...Baby One More Time

Day 5,402, 11:19 Published in USA USA by Paul Proteus

Hello eCitizens,

It's been a while, so let's get to it~

Onwards and Upwards

First, if you haven't noticed, I am running for one final term as President of the eUnited States. There are campaign promises I have yet to achieve, and things I want to do, so I humbly ask for your support one more time.

So remember to vote~

I'm finishing my second term, I'm not going to talk about lofty promises, I'm going to talk about what we've been working on and what we have on the table.

First, I want to point you toward our recent executive media:

Have you ever wondered how our myriad training wars work and how to participate in them? Well our Minister of Foreign Affairs, Herr Vootsman, has put together a comprehensive guide.

Read the Rules for Efficient Training Wars here.

Speaking of Voots, our MoFa wears many hats, and also serves as Secretary General of Asteria as well. Our vMoFa Marine Le Pen interviews him here, to help keep our citizenry informed of what that role means.

Finally, thank Pfenix Quinn for his inimitable work on the WHPR these past two months.

Finally, if elected to another term, I wanted to talk a bit about changes to our team. Pfenix Quinn will be stepping back as SecMed, and Cthulhu., aka A^2, aka a good guy, will be taking over as our new Secretary of Media. Somehow Secretary of Fun, an entertaining and totally undefined cabinet position, has become cursed. I will be taking suggestions of any enemies you have to appoint to the role. Otherwise, next month I will do it myself.

A book about what keeps happening to people I appoint to Secretary of Fun

So what can you expect from another month of Proteus Presidency? I will continue to provide media from our Foreign Affairs team, demystifying the series of TWs and real wars that make up the game, I will get on our currently lagging interior department to try to fix the problems of underutilization of our current Q5 weapons program, and I will continue to do my best to make the eUS a good partner coordinating with our allies.

Also I'll put a pony back in the budget, just watch me.

Results from the American Community Survey

Last time I addressed the nation I introduced the American Community Survey, an effective way for me to give away boatloads of money, and for the American people to give feedback to their government.

What selection bias?????

So, I hope we get two things from this. 1. Regardless who is President next, I want future administrations to be aware of what the community wants. And 2. I hope this sets a precedent for future attempts at transparency.

To make this happen I'm going to share a representative sample of what people in the eUS had to say.

What people like:
-Everything
-Well, we are fairly good at TWs, except when our 'allies' forget to not win.
Whole lot of scrambling to save the day. That is why I always take anything offered, even if I have plenty. I figure it's owed to me for wasted supplies.
-Supporting the fighters with Weapons and Money...
-Being a good alliance partner (finally). Parties (mostly) starting to respect each other.
-posting battle win/lose

In other words, citizens do appreciate our work with managing our training wars, our current standing with our allies, and the tireless work done to keep Americans informed and coördinated in the national feed.

I think it's easy to forget the logistical successes we do have, and just how much Voots, Patanok, Thee Dude, and others do to keep the American machine running. I think there is a lot to be proud of, and our citizens' responses reflect this.

What can be improved :
-Better coordination on Epics for start of eWeek
-Periodic article on mundane things for new folks - (for things that haven't change can be just a pointer to other articles) like what are the safe regions (I've recently been asked this by a few different people), our TW partners and why half the country is occupied (been a few new folks & returnees that saw this as the eUS being in dire straights), current programs (like GIMP), which countries are our friends & which are our enemies, pointer to discord and what its for, pointers to various informative articles
-Advance notice on when a new war with Code is starting - so don't dump energy just before battle starts
-I long for the vibrant media of the olden days. No idea how to recover that.
-Allow new people in government positions.
-D 4 Epic Tuesday please
-Bring back the House Aid Programm but with a other structure that abuse can be prevented

Still, there's a lot than can be improved. Our communication on TWs has often been last minute to be generous, and while the lack of consistent and telegraphed Epics has long been a difficult complaint to address, particularly when we are struggling with real war battles that we have struggled to coördinate responses to, it is important to note this is a common and understandable request.

Many of these complaints are broader and about difficulties in the community that are hard to address immediately. I, however, am running for President. So, these are my campaign promises:

1) If anyone wants to be in my cabinet, message me, and I will bring you into as much as you have the time and desire to be involved with. We are too far into this game to be an elite, I want all hands on deck.

2) My first order of business will be fixing inefficiencies in our interior department

and 3) I will do everything I can next month to kickstart the community and keep the media inundated with the information that new players require. Let's get started on that last promise early:

Write, Die, Repeat

This game is a very confusing landscape for new players. There's no tutorial and much of the game and norms takes place either off-site or are rooted in community norms that have developed over years and years. It's also hard for even older players to know every facet of the game. Additionally, the media module, my favorite part of the game, is far more barren than it used to be, filled with articles from weeks ago.

So here's the deal:

Publish an article in eUS media that includes a guide for some part of this game, comment below, and I will send you 250k USD

This can be comedic, this can be short, this can be anything. Just write a guide, a guide to fighting, a guide to the economy, a guide to writing. Just publish something, and I'll send you money as well as a defunct Department of Education tote bag.

My new Secretary of Education is literally all of you

Alright, let's get to it~

Oh also, my favorite starburst is red...or yellow...Share yours below and I'll give you 5k usd.

Yours,
Paul Proteus
