A Peek at the Cover of the Final "Oreimo" Light Novel?

Japanese fan chatter is starting to buzz about an image on the site for publication imprint Dengeki Bunko that appears to be the cover for Oreimo's 12th and final light novel, expected to be released in June.

Kind of small, but you get the idea.

How do you think the series will end?

Harem action anime ‘Maken-Ki!’ gets second season

Maken-Ki!, the harem action anime loaded with fanservice and exaggerated female anatomy, is making a comeback with a brand new staff.

The studio Xebec has opened a teaser site announcing the second season of Maken-Ki!, titled Maken-Ki! Two (the “two” is written as “通”, which means “to pass through” or “street”; we’re not sure why it’s written like that).

The anime is based on a manga by Hiromitsu Takeda, which was previously animated by AIC in 2011. The story is centered around a high school boy named Takeru Ooyama who enters a formerly all-girls school, hoping for a happy school life surrounded by cute girls. What he doesn’t know when he enrolls is that the students have magic powers and battle each other with weapons called Maken.

Although it hasn’t been confirmed whether the cast from the first season will make a return, the staff has almost completely changed.

Director: Hiraku Kaneko (Seikon no Qwaser)
Character Designer: Akio Takami (Upotte!)
Scenario Writer: Yousuke Kuroda (Maken-Ki!, BTOOOM!)
Animation Studio: Xebec (Haiyore! Nyaruko-san)

These staff members are also responsible for the Maken-Ki OVA that will be included on a Blu-ray Disc with the limited edition of volume 11 of the manga, which will be released in late September, so fans of the series should get that as well.

Staff of fantasy comedy anime YuuShibu revealed

In this upcoming fantasy from the studio responsible for Minami-ke, the bad guy is defeated before the story starts, and the main character gets no fame or glory. Of course, the story isn’t that simple…

It was announced earlier this year that the light novel series Yuusha ni Narenakatta Ore wa Shibushibu Shuushoku wo Ketsui Shimashita (I Reluctantly Decided to Find a Job Because I Couldn’t Become a Hero) will join the ranks of light novels-turned-anime with really long names. The novel series is written by Jun Sakyou and illustrated by Masaki Inuzumi, and currently has five volumes, along with two different manga adaptations.

The story is centered around a boy named Raul who has always dreamed of becoming a hero and defeating the demon lord. For years, he trained to become a hero, but suddenly, news spread across the country of the demon lord’s defeat. Now that all of the heroes-in-training are unemployed, Raul gets a part-time job at a magic shop in the royal capital, where he lives an uneventful life until the arrival of a young, arrogant, clueless job applicant — who is the demon lord’s daughter!

The latest issue of Monthly Newtype has revealed information on the staff:

Director: Kinji Yoshimoto (Queen’s Blade)
Character Designer: Tetsuya Takeuchi (Yomigaeru Sora: Rescue Wings)
Series Composer: Masashi Suzuki (Minami-ke Okawari)
Animation Studio: Asread (Minami-ke, Mirai Nikki)

We don’t have any dates or cast information yet, but the story feels like a reverse urban fantasy along the lines of Hataraku Maou-sama!, so anyone who’s interested in fantasy comedies like that should keep an eye on this anime.

Attack on Titan Has Video Game Planned

The official Twitter account for the Attack on Titan manga revealed on April 30 that there is a console or portable video game planned for sale.

A follower had asked the people in charge of the manga at Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine's editorial department about whether they are looking into game adaptations. In their reply, they noted that the company Strategy & Partners already launched a social game, Shingeki no Kyojin -Hangeki no Tsubasa- (Attack on Titan: The Wings of Counterattack, pictured below), on the GREE mobile platform. They added there are plans to sell a console or portable video game, although they cannot talk about the details.

Hajime Isayama's manga series depicts the battles between humans and the giants who now rule the world outside humans' walled enclaves. Isayama launched the series in Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine in 2009. The manga has become a sleeper hit, and Kodansha USA is publishing it in North America.

Both Funimation and Crunchyroll are streaming the ongoing anime version as it airs in Japan, and a live-action film version is slated for next year.

‘Haiyore! Nyaruko-san W’ drinks and food coming to Cure Maid Cafe

The elegant Cure Maid Cafe is partnering with the peculiar anime Haiyore! Nyaruko-san W to create some extraordinary limited edition treats. Eat them if you dare.

Cure Maid Cafe, a maid cafe that regularly collaborates with anime, will be holding a “Haiyore! Nyaruko-san W Cafe” in their store located in Akihabara from May 17 to June 2. Here is the complete list of drinks and food that will be available.

The following drinks each cost 450 yen and are eligible for a drink set:

Nyaruko

A green mint syrup and lemon squash-flavored soda with a heart-shaped jelly thrown in for good measure.

Mahiro Yasaka

A normal mix of frozen chocolate and milk, fitting for one of the few normal people in the anime.

Kuuko

A complex combination of blueberry juice, ginger ale, gum syrup, Calpis (a milk-based soft drink), and heart sugar topped with a heart-shaped jelly.

Hasuta

A classy mixture of Blue Hawaii syrup, fruit cocktail juice, and heart sugar.

Tamao

A blend of fruit cocktail juice and ice tea with a pineapple chunk.

Luhy

A relatively simple mix of Calpis and kiwi sauce.

Kuune

A mix of ginger ale, heart sugar, and grenadine (it’s just a common ingredient in cocktails).

Tsuruko

A safe (probably) mix of fruit cocktail and liquid yogurt.

Nyaruko Full Force Form

A mix of cola and strawberry sauce with a red ribbon, not as dramatic as the name implies.

You can buy the following sweets and dishes as a drink set by adding 200 yen:

DK-Dou Whole Cake (2,500 yen)

The DK-Dou cake from episode 3 of the first season is back! With a diameter of 15 cm, you can now share one of space’s most popular cakes with your friends.

Kuuko’s “Furthermore” Hard-to-Explain Incarnated Delusion Parfait (900 yen)

Kuuko’s rampant passion for Nyaruko has finally manifested itself in the form of a parfait! It also comes with two cookies shaped like the crowbar Nyaruko uses to fight.

Mumbo-Jumbo Cake (600 yen)

Each of these strawberry cheesecakes contains a random, wise proverb from Nyaruko herself. The one in this picture is “Sanity points! Critical low!”

Nyaruko’s Love-Filled Crab Ball Plate (1,100 yen)

You can now buy a replica of the meal that Nyaruko cooked for Mahiro! However, the ingredients are all from Earth. Probably.

Sanity Points Obliterated?! Nyarlathotep (900 yen)

Don’t panic! This is just a dish modeled after the malign deity Nyarlathotep from H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos. He has 1,001 different forms, one of which is a giant mass of golden tentacles. About this dish… okay, we don’t know what it is.

As a bonus, when you buy any item from this menu, you will receive one of two exclusive postcards.

Also, if you buy a character drink, you can pay an additional 800 yen to get this special glass with a picture of Nyaruko and Kuuko.

Fans of Haiyore! Nyaruko-san, quality maid cafes, and/or curious-looking food should make their way to Cure Maid Cafe on May 17.
