[MMike] What was the latest movie you watched?
The Mike
It was December last month. Great month! Filled with excitement, happiness and family moments. Although it is the last one of a year, it is maybe the best month of them all. And not because the born in Dec are Capricorn or Aquarius. It’s because it brings people together, everyone looks back and reminds him- or herself what the greatest moments of the passing year have been; what disappointments there were and what is left over for the incoming year. December is a great month!
I did that too. I went home for a couple of weeks, ate with all the family members together, partied hard with all my friends who also came back home from wherever they live/study/work and overall had fun. This whole experience reminded me what a lucky person I am to have so many friends and spending time with them was something sacred to me. Many people don’t have friends, they may have acquaintances, but no friends.. They don’t have people to share their happiness with, or their losses. They are alone and close-lipped, in that that they keep everything to themselves.
But is this actually a bad thing, I would ask. If we remember the character of The Doctor from the infamous BBC TV series, he is just like that too. Although the dozens of human friends he has, all of whom ready to sacrifice their lives for him (and some do that less than a day after they’ve met him…), he is all alone. Noone knows his name; noone knows how he’s survived the Time War; and he never reveals his true feelings. How has he managed to survive over 900 years, I would ask
😃
Among the many movies I watched over the past month, one impressed me. And it wasn’t the Hunger Games, or Hobit. Well, Last Vegas and Grudge Match (awful title in English, must say) were really fun and both my parents enjoyed it (and although my father stayed until 3am the same evening to finish a report for work, he didn’t regret coming to the movies
😛), it is another movie that really really impressed me. I am talking about Rush. The movie by itself was fine. But the storyline and more specifically, this young Austrian dude, did impress me. Just like the Doctor, he is very close-lipped. He gets invited to a party, his team mate from Ferrari would drive him to the house, but he wouldn’t even enter and leave the lot straight away. In a pretty German girl’s car. But yet, he wouldn’t brag about how he’s tricked Ferrari to hire him. Yes, later they will marry, but only because the fate decided it is meant to happen. He didn’t put any effort into showing off or try to “impress” the girl.
Here is a nice scene from the movie that did touch me:
Niki and Marlene are sat waiting to get married at a registry office
Niki Lauda: I should warn you, I'm not going to be any good at this. "Bringing flowers" and "holding hands". I'll probably forget your birthday. But if I'm going to do this with anyone, it might as well be you.
Marlene Lauda: My God, a poet!
[she chuckles, then later they get married in a small private ceremony and after the vows they kiss; at their honeymoon in Ibiza they have some fun swimming naked in the pool, later that night Marlene finds Niki staring out the balcony window in deep thought]
Marlene Lauda: What's the matter?
Niki Lauda: Happiness is the enemy. It weakens you. Puts doubt in your mind. Suddenly you have something to lose.
Marlene Lauda: When you call happiness an enemy, then it's too late. Then you've already lost.
[Niki looks at her and nods his head]
Niki Lauda is a World Champion in Formula 1 from the 70s. He is famous for (1) his rivalry with James Hunt and for (2) his awful crash at the German Grand Prix in August 1976. After the automobile crashes, it goes into flames and the driver doesn’t get out (other drivers who crashed into his bolide had been the first to help him) for more than 60 seconds. As a result a significant amount of the skin cells on his head are killed and they cannot regenerate which is the reason for his physical image nowadays. The movie Rush is his story, about his rivalry, about his success, about his investment, about the love that defeated him.
I will end up with the fact that 6 weeks after this crash, he gets back onto the track and in the last race for the year, when it is just as rainy as it had been on Nürburgring, there is only one point difference between the two racers. You can read in Wikipedia what happens next, or just watch the movie. It is a fascinating story that maybe could have been told even better, but is a story worth watching.
I started the article with the friendship thread. It is a great joy to have friends (Friends in need are friends indeed), but is it not also a hinderer towards the personal success? If you have friends this means to prioritise them over other stuff; I would rather argue that other people do it because they aren't sure what they want in life, they are lost, so they are relying on their friends to show them the way.
What I learned from the story above is that you can still plan for your live (go the cold-hearted approach), know what you want and how to achieve it, achieve it, but when the love touches you, you lose all your senses, it “weakens you; puts doubt in your mind; suddenly you have something to lose”. And this is the moment you should be preparing yourself for all your life. Because everybody should have someone to pass his fortunes of knowledge and means to. And this is a challenge not everyone passes, unfortunately.
Now, before I leave you for another month of silence, let me tell you once again I am running for a congressman from We The People (WTP). Both me in the primaries and our party on the 25th will be looking forward for your support, measured in a legitimate vote on the ballot! I am planning on having some fun, while preparing for the above mentioned important life role in a respectful amount of years. Being in congress is fun for me as I always do my best
🙂
Have a nice evening! Feel free to rate my new avatar

Good for you. I still don't see how was that comment relevant to the article (:
The Articles Name also keep in mind I'm quoting the very thing you typed "What Was the Latest movie you watched?" so as a joke I put A Trip to the moon and stated that I was at the premier. The movie came out in 1902 so by which would mean that I would have to be atleast 112 and that I haven't seen a movie in a hundred years. Get it now?
"What was the latest movie you watched?", asked Mike.
"A Trip To The Moon", Liam replied.
😛
Yes, I got it; the joke wasn't funny. Sorry.
Well it didn't seem like you got it as you made me break down the entire thing along with the article's title for you to understand a cheap pun which took me around 5 to 6 time longer to explain it then it took me to think of it.
Which is why the joke wasn't good 😛
Don't post any first thought that comes up to your mind.. Good jokes are those who take you 5-6 time more time to come up with them than it takes the audience to understand them ^_~
Yes understand that you didn't get it immediately and I don't blame you Its just that the group of people I hang around usually get references like that and I'll also remember to use my additional 5 seconds to consider if the people I'm communicating with will understand well-know cultural references.
Yea Liam what the hell, this article was about The Mike.

Good read, Mike. I wasn't planning to watch Rush, but after your recommendation I will watch it. Also, good luck with elections.

We're the Millers...it was funny
ya, wasn't bad at all; there aren't many good movies with "American humour" these days ;/
The wife and I found The Brave Little Toaster on DVD in the $5 bin at Walmart and watched it last week. For such a beloved childhood film, there are some incredibly creepy parts. I can't believe I wasn't scarred for life watching that as a kid. I found an AMA thread on Reddit with the director/co-writer, and it was pretty interesting to get his feedback on what certain things meant. I guess as a kid I never cared about the symbolism.
In terms of in theaters, I went and saw Saving Mr. Banks, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Tom Hanks is such a great actor, and the story itself was really touching.
I think I missed that one 😐 There were some really nice movies in November but I couldn't afford any cinema then.. ;/ Now that I can, there are no good movies on the "big" screen 😃
Thanks for the share ^__^
Liked the duck better 😉
Voted and subscribed on all of them 🙂

At the end of Titanic the ship sinks.
At the end of Passion of the Christ Jesus dies.
damn it I didn't finish the book yet
I watched The Wolf of Wall Street and 12 Years a Slave...Epic movies.
Gotta watch the first one yet.
The other one didn't impress me.. much; maybe because I've already watched several movies on the topic that were pretty good and this one was too predictable already.. :3
yeah your right The Butler is almost the same...But The wolf of wall street man you will like it.
Hobited! I am death ...
