[MiCul] Cuba and the World Cup

Besides that the national sport in Cuba is not football, it's imposible to escape to the greatest sports festival, The World Cup

Beisbol is the most popular sport in the island. It was introduced in 1860 by cubans studing in the United States, and american marines that stopped in Cuban ports. From that time, Beisbol became very popular in Cuba.

There are roumors that say that the frist football match played was in the Militar Camp of Columbia in 1908, others say it was the Feb 14° of 1910.

The first official match in Cuba was the December 11° of 1911 in Palatino, La Habana.

The Cuba's national football team is controlled by the "Asociación de Fútbol de Cuba" belonging to the CONCACAF.

Cuba has the privilege of being the first Caribbean conutry to reach the World Cup Finals, in France 1938 where Cuba reached the quarter finals. Cuba never qualified again.

Besides footbal is not a traditional sport, the last years has been improved their results. Achieving the second place in the Caribbean Cup in 1996, 1999, and 2005, and winning it in 2012.

It's important to remark that Cuba only uses players that are playing in the country.
