[MC]WHAT ON EARTH IS GOING ON?!?!

Day 1,863, 01:32 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Michael Crookes

Hello eWorld!

*EDIT*

This article was written to talk about a situation that was going on within the eUK in an attempt to keep the general populace informed as to what is going on in the eworld. Needless to say, things change fast and since this article was posted alot has chnaged. I have left the original article below for people to read if they are interested but I should make some clarifications:

-After some negotiation, Big Ant has managed to iron out a number of the problems with Ireland and so the result is that the eUK will be entering a training war with Ireland in the coming days.

-Big ant has issued an apology to the belgian people and government for attacking too early and as a result the Belgians have retracted their threats of war etc.

-To see the government's latest article on the events, please read this article:

ORIGINAL ARTICLE
Yesterday was quite a hectic day for a number of reasons! Of course things always get pretty hectic around Christmas (I hope you had a good one) but this year erepublik seems determined to be just as crazy as real life can be! A lot has happened and a lot has been discussed on the euk forums (which I encourage you to join) but I realised that nothing has been released in game. I suspect some government article or article from someone who has more of an idea than me will appear at some point, but this is my attempt at keeping the general populace of the eUK up to date.

I should also say that there will more than likely be a lot of politically motivated complaining and arguing which rears its head in the next few days in the aftermath of all this, but I would appreciate if it was left out of my article, as my only aim is to simply inform people to the best of my knowledge of what is going on

Background

Now, as I am sure you are all aware, in the last week the eUK has been involved in a campaign against Canada and Portugal to try and take the Portuguese region of Azores. A few days ago our efforts seemed to have paid off and we took Azores from Portugal. However, the Portuguese region remained in our hands for mere hours before it was taken back by Portugal in a resistance war. This war was conducted under the watchful eye of TWO (the alliance the eUK was involved in) and with their blessing.

We should be aware that ANY action we take in this game has a variety of effects, both in terms of game mechanics and beyond. In this case, the main country impacted other than those directly involved was Ireland. Now, as many of you know Ireland is a country we have been working very hard to build good relationships with over the last few months.

Ireland had planned a training war that was due to start at roughly the same time as our invasion of Newfoundland and Labrador began (N and L is the only border Canada has with either Ireland or the UK). We therefore caused a delay in the Irish training war by invading Canada first. Furthermore, we did not simply delay their training war, but we did so in order to attack and wipe Portugal, a country that many in Ireland consider a close friend. Needless to say, this caused some unease in Ireland (and Canada for that matter).

In the background, we are also currently fighting in an ongoing training war with our neighbours in Belgium. The war has been going on for around 15 days and was initially set up to provide the eUK with a war and a chance for people to earn true patriot medals and gold.

So What?

On Christmas eve, it was decided by the eUK country president that the eUK would try to attack and reclaim the Portuguese region of Azores. I don’t know whether any discussion was had among cabinet or TWO HQ about this attack, although I do know that when it all came to pass the eUK MoFA (minister of foreign affairs) resigned.

The one thing I am utterly sure of is that Ireland were not spoken to in advance. Ireland had already set in motion the beginning of the training war with Canada by making them natural enemy. However, due to game mechanics, when we conquered Newfoundland and Labrador we cut off the border between Canada and Ireland and thus declared the natural enemy proposal null.

The british CP also proposed a natural enemy against Portugal which will pass, opening up the Portuguese war once again. It is unclear whether TWO wanted the eUK to attack Portugal for a second time and we are currently getting conflicting reports (from members of eUK government) about what roll TWO have played in this.

At this point I want you to picture things from Ireland’s side: a supposedly friendly nation is hindering your planned war with another nation, in order to attack one of your allies while showing you a distinct lack of respect by not including you in any discussion or even letting you know that it is happening. How would you feel?

The Irish are pretty upset and as a result their President proposed the eUK as a natural enemy . Naturally a thread was opened on the eUK forums to discuss what was happening and the Irish president commented to say: “Our NE law will be voted Yes or No depending on next move by UK Government. We request official apologise as a sign of friendship and either route to Norway as a sign of friendship.”

It looks likely that the Irish NE proposal will pass in which case we will have 4 active battles (which in my humble opinion is not something we are likely to win…certainly not without huge drain to our finances and huge drain to our allies).

Oh well…at least Belgium still love us…right???

WRONG…It seems that at the moment we are not in the good books of any of our friends! What appears to have happened with Belgium is an entirely separate (but equally careless if true) situation.

As many of you know, the congress elections also took place yesterday. The congress elections are a time when traditionally all training wars are closed in order to ensure that all the countries involved get a full set of congressmen. However, for whatever reason, the Belgium training war was not closed and instead a time was arranged with the British CP for the eUK to attack.

However, it appears that Bigant pushed the attack button too early, which resulted in the eUK taking a Belgian region before the end of the elections. This meant that Belgium lost 10 members of congress for the next month. Like the Irish, the Belgians are pretty upset about this (if what I am being told is correct).

In fact, the Belgians have also proposed the eUK a natural enemy and are planning to take some regions as revenge for the loss of their congress. A deal has also been put in place with the CoT alliance (the alliance Belgium are part of and who have supported the eUK in battles in the past) that the eUK will not get any CoT help for the duration of Bigant’s term as country president.

too long, didn’t read

-The eUK will once again have an active battle with Portugal in the near future, although this time it is unclear whether it is supported by TWO (our alliance)
-Ireland may well attack us as a result of a large amount of disrespect paid to them by the eUK.
-Belgium and planning to attack some UK original regions as payback for the eUK carelessly costing them congressmen.
-CoT (A friendly alliance) has stated that it will not help the eUK on the battlefield until the end of the current CPs term in office.

Conclusion

Firstly, I would like to discourage people from the view that Ireland is acting selfishly or out of turn. While I wish they would not attack us, I can completely understand why they are planning to attack, and to be honest, we only have ourselves to blame. To be honest, I know a lot less about the Belgian situation so I won’t pass comment.

I would also discourage the more brave hearted among us from simply saying “let them come”…We are talking about a large number of our neighbours being pretty upset, and when you add into consideration that Ireland may well be on the way to joining ASGARD (the alliance prominent in Scandinavia) I hope you can begin to see how much trouble we would be in if things turned sour between us and our neighbours. We would be almost exclusively surrounded by enemy countries!

Finally, I would like to reiterate what I said at the start PLEASE DON’T FILL THE COMMENTS WITH POLITICAL PROPAGANDA (FROM EITHER “SIDE”) OR WITH HATE FILLED COMMENTS. I have tried to be as apolitical and informative as I can and I hope you enjoyed today’s article

Stay safe and play hard!
