[Just a Thought] Keeping my Campaign Promise

Day 1,152, 10:57 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Connor West

It’s been quite a while since I’ve written an article for my own newspaper, even longer than the last time I said it’s been a while. So, I thought I needed to write one, and what better topic than keeping my campaign promise? In this article I will talk a little about everything (I’m allowed to) that has been put up for vote in Parliament and explain the reasoning behind my votes.

Alright, alright! Just don’t punch me…. Sorry.

First up is the Amendment to the Legislative Procedure Rules (Passed). This amendment allows eUK citizens to sponsor bills that are in public discussion, which I think is absolutely fantastic. I feel that this will help in retaining citizens, and help to better the eUK because many more are in on the discussion (at least in the beginning). I voted YES for this.

Go freedom! *Cheer* *Cheer*

Next, the Inci situation (Rejected). For those of you who don’t know, the Inci are a large group of Turks who were looking to move from Turkey to a new country, supposedly just to operate their companies and have a small number of congress seats. There are pros and cons to having a large group of players move into your eCountry. On the positive side, you gain a HUGE addition in damage you can deal, you get a larger active community, and (although in this case it would not matter because this group works in communes) a significant increase in tax revenues without congress raising taxes. On the negative side, in a relatively small eCountry (like the eUK) if you allow so many new players who are already banded together to receive citizenship at the same time it could spell disaster for your eCountry. Just to put this into perspective, if all members of the Inci were to receive eUK citizenship they could elect their own Prime Minister (unless of course all the Top 5 parties banded behind a single candidate, but that isn’t going to happen, and that would be boring anyway). Also, Congress could be completely taken over. Most congress members (excluding those elected in London) receive anywhere from 1 to 5 votes. The Inci could easily, if they wanted to, completely PTO the eUK. I voted NO for this.

I had a feeling they were being about as honest with us as these guys….

Next we have the Amendment to the Monarchy Act (Rejected). This proposal would have affected the lulz side of things, it just changed some of the “powers” the Monarch has. I ABSTAINED because quite frankly, I didn’t care.

I’m a Don’t Care Bear.

Next are the several bills involving a Speaker for the House of Commons (Eventually Passed). This was introduced a total of three times in different forms, finally passing the third time. I voted YES to all of the proposals (I chose not to link them because there are three of them, if you look on the forum, though, you should be able to find them). I feel that the current system (a Minister of Legislative Affairs appointed by the Prime Minister) does very little to separate the Executive government from the Legislative government. Both should work together, yes, but they are still two separate entities and need to be treated as such. With a Speaker of the House of Commons, elected by the House of Commons, the House can govern itself.

OH GOD, WHAT HAVE WE DONE?? (jk jk)

Lastly we have the Shadow is a Butt Act…. This bill was kind of ridiculous, quite frankly (if you can’t tell from the name). It was all meant in good fun, don’t get me wrong, but I just don’t think the House of Commons should deal with things like this. Basically the entirety of the bill was “So that the whole of the eUK may know that Shadow is a butt.” This bill was VETOED by Prime Minister Jhorlin before I had a chance to vote NO. His explanation was: “This proposal has been veto'd. In my opinion, it undermines the institution of congress and puts out a negative image to the public of what congress does.” Personally, I feel like that was a pretty good judgment call.

He’s p cool, I guess.

The rest of the votes were advisor approval votes and a small number of Sensitive Issue votes (which I cannot talk about, but I’m sure you’ll hear about them fairly soon). Anyway, sorry it took so long to get this out, I’ve just been busy.

Well, have a nice day,

P.S. I forgot to tell you, I won a Bronze Medal from the NNA!
