Hall of Fame Inductee

Paul Proteus

For me personally, Paul Proteus represents what it means to be a Fed. His dedication to his beliefs, and his work ethic not only helped this party to grow into a political powerhouse, but helped to keep us grounded even in our darkest hours.

First let me say that Paul was an eUS President, a 2-time eSwiss President, a 4-time Fed PP, served in nearly every national cabinet position, as well as most of the Fed cabinet positions. His is the resume of a great eAmerican, but what stands out to me are the things that don’t necessarily go on a player’s resume, the things that don’t get put in forum signatures or braggadocios campaign articles.

When Paul took over as Party President of the Feds, we had just survived one of the most trying times in our party’s history. We had been on the brink of destruction, slipping out of the top 5, and barely staying ahead of the Ajay’s new party, the newly formed AFA. We had survived solely because of herculean effort on the part of certain Feds in leadership which included Paul. By the time he took office we were securely in our number 5 spot, and slowly gaining ground on the biggest parties. That period of strife was followed by what can only be described as a renaissance. During the next two months under Paul Proteus' leadership, we grew from 5th place to 4th, and more importantly we became the most indispensable party in the eUS. Feds took the lead in ATO efforts against Ajay and the AFA, and new Feds were taking the eUS by storm. This set up an entire year (2013) where Federalist candidates won literally half of the Presidential elections, and every non-Fed who won had to have a federalist heavy cabinet. We had become a juggernaut of eUS politics.

All of that is fine and dandy, but I believe that Paul Proteus means more to the Feds than some swelled numbers and well executed CP campaigns.

The most important moment came when Paul helped hold the country together during the roller coaster that was Unity. During my second term as PP, Paul ran for President. For those of you that don’t know, the original unity voting system that was used to fight the oncoming PTO was one where the president was voted on via party primaries, and the winner of the most primaries became president. It was a simple yet somewhat skewed system, where the elections were built almost entirely on trust among the major parties. That month one of the parties conducted their primary differently than they had said they would (and differently than was expected by the candidates), and it resulted in Paul losing that primary, and in turn the entire election. Even though Paul had gotten significantly more support than his opponent, he lost the Presidency on a technicality.

The Feds raged. Personally, I made an a** of myself crying out against the perceived injustice. There was fallout between parties, and there was a huge call among Paul’s supporters for him to run in-game anyway, and let the chips fall where they may. Not only did he refuse, but he left the party so that he couldn't be run even if we had wanted to. He threw his support behind the winner, and showed us what a Fed is supposed to be. It was the perfect example of Country>Party>Self. He showed us once again what it means to be a Fed.

In this game people’s importance to their country, their party, and their fellow players is hard to measure. A person can do everything that they are asked, and complete every job, but still be nothing more than a worker in the grand scheme of things. And others can do very little in the way of true work, but can stimulate the community in ways that enhance the game and permeate the way that we all play. Paul Proteus was in that rare group that could do both.

I’m glad that he’s finally being recognized as one of the best to ever play. He’s deserved it for as long as I’ve known him. Welcome to the Federalist Hall of Fame, Paul Proteus. Your picture will hang in immortality.

Vote Feds on the 25th

Feast your eyes on this month's slate of Congressional Candidates. We thank you for all your support as the eUSA continues to dig out from its occupiers. While the United States Congress size is small, the quality and experience of its member becomes more and more important. We are honored to mix in some new blood with veterans to ensure that our delegation is of the highest caliber. Without further ado:
