[EZC] Origins - Onward Toward Destiny

Day 4,659, 05:51 Published in USA USA by Kevin Sheridan

As the banner states, Easy Company is the top eUS MU, in almost every conceivable index. As a newcomer to EZC I decided that I wanted to understand it better, understand how it got be what it is today, and in order to do so, I thought well...why not start at the beginning. I hope this article can add some flavor even if the story itself is pretty well known.

Operation Polish Sausage

So this is a pretty well known story, EDEN was fighting PEACE, Hungary went rampant in neutral Slovakia and some Feds decided it was a good idea to go support US allies in foreign lands. When I first heard about this story I wasn't too impressed. However...the game was different then...

In V1 apparently this was quite a military logistical feat...people had to relocate, and if you moved you lost your job...and supplies (and jobs) were much harder to come by it seems:

In accordance with the Department of Defense recommendation that civilians with the means go to ePoland to assist in the war with eHungary to liberate eSlovakia, the Federalist Party is launching Operation: Polish Sausage. Any interested citizen should apply on the forum thread. We will start a weapons company in Poland to provide jobs for all soldiers, who will work for 1PLN. We will also be employing land workers in Spain to provide Iron to this company at 1.28ESP. Land workers will be rotated into Poland to fight and train in manufacturing while manufacturing workers rotate out to train in land and hold space in Spain. (Feds Call to Arms, day 720)

By day 721, 10 volunteers joined, by the time the battle was won on day 723 they numbered 17, some were Feds, but from the get go it was an all American operation.

Back in those days, "Military Unit" was still a somewhat loose concept, not a "real" ingame entity, so the logistical effort needed to conduct the operation laid the foundations for what will become Easy Company.

In erep-WIKI it states : "by day 740 the vision had expanded and there was the talk of “Easy Company”. Well, the first reference I found was earlier, on day 729, a week after "Polish Sausage" was over, right here.

More "airborne" operations followed, as in complex military deployment efforts, and EZC started operating orgs, companies and doing its own recruitment and PR media. The first Gnilraps article I encountered was an AAR of an incursion into the eUK.

Early EZC Motto: Onward Toward Destiny

EZC was founded by Feds, as a party organ, subordinated to the party's "military department". This was a natural beginning as these entities shared common basic values. However...as time went by, the growth of EZC made the affiliation increasingly difficult and this in turn led to the MU declaring independence and going apolitical. But that's a story for another time.

So what is to be learned from this? EZC was founded by a band of brothers, seeking to fight for US interests, sacrificing comfort and RL hours, while also doing it "their way" without too much gov support, building upon creativity, ingenuity and superb independent logistical and organizational capabilities. Sounds familiar? 2009 EZC's DNA is very evident even after 11 years.
