[ESO] A Guide to Congress

Day 1,458, 10:45 Published in United Kingdom Belgium by Veruvia

If you're looking at volunteering for one of the government ministries, take a look here or if this is your first time running for Congress, take a look at this guide.

The Misconception of Congress

Most people tend to think that congress presses buttons and, to some extent, that's true. Congress is responsible for the approval of donations, mutual protection pacts and for the approval of citizens. What this article is aiming to do is highlight how important it is that congress does more – congress is responsible for public discussion, for establishing trends on our foreign policies, domestic arrangements and for keeping the government in check.

One Click, Two Click, Three Click...

What we're looking at here is what the Congress members do when they click “Yes” or “No” on proposals. It's not a case of us clicking the buttons without knowing what is happening. Most of our proposals are first approved on the forums. When we approve donations, we check the list of approved donation lists and then approve it based on the minister's wishes. When we approve MPPs, we understand that it is for the good of the nation and because it fits with our foreign policies. If we have an issue, we can contact the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Discussing the Nation

What we've had over the last few months is a deterioration of public discussion. Our current Minister of Legislative Affairs, Talon Karrde, is aiming to establish more discussion. The last two discussions, one on our current foreign policies and another on our recruitment policies, have proven this point. So, if you're looking to run for Congress, you should be engaging in these conversations. If we don't have these discussions about policies, we have a congressional team that doesn't know what's going on or why we're approving these efforts. If we don't know what the ministers are doing, we don't have reasonable grounds to be a check and balance against them.

Become Part of the Change

It's not just Congress that should be looking at engaging in these discussions. It's a conversation about the nation and, as a result, it's vital for us to be engaging not only with Congress but with the public. Do you know why we are allied with ONE? Do you know what the MoHA is doing this month? Do you believe that the enjoy system adopted by the MoFA works? These are all questions I've had and it's only by jumping on the forums and engaging in these conversations that we can see that you want to run for Congress. Without public discussion, I never would have been known. People wouldn't know that I have opinions of my own and that I don't stand back or hold back opinions. What I do is express those opinions. If we all just posted once in a discussion with our opinions, we'd have a real conversation.

Discussion and Legislation

Here's a list of discussions and legislation that might prove helpful in getting people started in moving us forwar😛
