Shocks. Crash. Dazzle.

The subway appears from the tunnel and made a commitment on the long air section which led towards the Loop. I approached the window, wrinkled my eyes then admired the fast scrolling of Chicago, several meters down. Arrived at the station, I was put by the stream of hastened individuals, went down endless marches and arrived in the street. On the pavement, on the other side of the crowded road of humming vehicles, a man made a sign to me. I adjusted my hat, caught my suitcase then crossed the road in his way.

"Welcome to Chicago, mister Dhelk", he told, strongly shaking hands with me. "Molly waits for you at her mansion. I shall be your driver". He appointed, in a gesture, a blazing motorcycle with a sparkling body and aggressive wheels, behind him.
"I am however afraid that you have to exchange your hat for this helmet ", he added, smiling.

We crossed the avenue at top speed. My driver slalomed between vehicles amassed on the road. The high towers on each side of the street followed one another in a ceaseless scrolling. The run was short. We quickly arrived in front of a high gate of wrought iron, raising itself in front of an impressive manor house, clamped between two glass towers which dashed to heavens. I have been led in a disproportionate room, a whole section of the wall covered with books.

"Welcome in my private library", told me a soft voice in my back. I turned around. "I am Molly Emma. President of the Federalist Party. Please sit down. I believe that we have many things to be said".





In a gesture, she invited me to take place around a coffee table in cherry tree, in a comfortable leather armchair. With elegance, she moved between the piles of books piled up here and there, then settled down in front of me. She raised a beaming smile and showed a self-assurance particularly confusing for a political leader of a so young age. To tell the truth, the character fascinated me. I thus decided to begin this interview by focusing on her personal history.

"Before approaching the questions concerning directly the Federalist Party, I would like we speak about a few of you, Molly Emma. You have recently just been reelected in the head of your party, beginning, in fact, your second mandate, but maybe it would be good that we draw up a fast portrait of yourself. My question is thus simple: who are you, Molly Emma?"

"I am delighted that you proceed to this initiative of introduction before entering, strictly speaking, the heart of the matter, she answered.
"However, I must warn you and our readers : I am not very familiar with long monologues relative to the curriculum vitae of each. I would thus be held in the simple precision that I occupy at present time president's posts of the Federalist Party and Secretary of the Interior."

Although abrupt, this introduction let augur that she was a woman of action, more concentrated on the particularly concrete aspects of politics, rather than on the flourishes of facade. I thus noted this voluntary orientation of the interview towards thorough questionings and moved on to the Federalist Party.

"Your party is relatively old on the American political stage, it witnessed in particular the big evolutions of the United States. However, count of players from the New World have a knowledge only partial of this giant of the American politics. For our international readers, how would you describe the Federalist Party?"

She recovered on her armchair. Her hands laid on her crossed legs.

"This kind of questions pleases me more, she declared in laughing.
"Feds" is present on the American political stage for about three years. There are only very few parties in the New World which can boast about such a longevity. Besides, this surprising continuity came along with a permanent structuring of our internal mechanisms, making of the Federalist Party a real institution at present time. The message which it carries is thus made the echo of thoughts registered in the History of the United States. And, if I had to summarize its ideology in three words, it would be: "Country, Party, Self ".

"If I indeed understand, the Federalist Party charged itself, in a way, in a mission towards the Nation?"

"That is correct. "Feds" strongly believe in the existence of a public interest upper to any partisan or particular interest. We moreover registered this fundamental principle in the Federalist Party Plateform, the kind of solemn Charter reaffirming all the major principles which we defend. The Party always showed a constant vigilance towards inappropriate behaviors for the good development of our country, and we made ourselves those who inform of the enemies of democracy."

"The Federalist Party thus has a role of railing, but does not constitute a real organ of proposal?"

She strongly took issue.

"Do not believe it! Our social concerns establish the bases of our program. The Federalist Party militates, above all, for an education very pushed of all American citizens. We are convinced that a Nation cannot reach its climax if most of its citizens are badly informed and if they do not seize the stakes in presence. We are, thus, actively involved in a big empowerment of the parties towards the education of their members. It is all about the sustainability of our institutions. The Congress and the government cannot be educational places. They have to be ran by individuals worn-out to the mechanics of the New World, and, according to us, this education should be made political parties."

"You take, thus, particularly in heart the organization of the society?"

"As for the political education, it is undeniable. But next to it, we are completely conscious that what makes the interest of a Nation in the New World, it is its community. The more we feel good, the more we have fun in community, and the more we get involved! Here is our watchword."

The social concerns were apparently very anchored in the program of the Federalist Party. But I was curious to know the position of the party about the three other big domains of governance. I thus focused my following question on the Foreign Affairs, the Defense and the Economy. After a moment of thoughts, Molly Emma got up, and came to take place in front of the gigantic window which flooded the room with a golden light.

"Regrettably, as for the Economy, policies has almost no more impact. As long as economical mechanisms will not be reformed, any economic policy will remain inefficient."

She turned away from the window and returned towards the armchair.

"Concerning the Foreign Affairs, mister Dhelk, we bring our whole support for the cause of the TERRA alliance and in the defense of its interests. Anything very innovative, thus, but the loyalty is a great gift for us. Finally, about the Defense, know that the Federalist Party is one of the last parties to be widely associated with a militia. The structural organization of our power of striking concerns us excessively."

The moment had come to approach topical questions. I so evoked the Congress elections.

"Ah, Congress... she murmured. It is about the only event of national scale all around of which the whole community can gather every month. In the United States, we take these elections, at the same time with a lot of importance, but also with the objective to spend twenty-four hours of fun! Fortunately, there are only very few unwelcomed groups determined to sabotage the Congress in our country, the competition thus takes place between the parties and we take a lot of pleasure there!"

"Last question, Molly Emma, and maybe not the slightest : how do you judge the ending President's term?"

"President Obliges took reins, February 5th of this year, of a country which has never known the same prosperity. The mandate which ends was one month of pure pleasure, in particular on the military plan, and that is why I suggest that we raise our glass in the glory of TEDEN!"

We had a drink of Whiskey, so sealing the end of this very enriching interview, then Molly Emma took back me at the door of the library. I took the way of the exit, when I suddenly turned around.

"Another question Molly Emma : why have chosen to make Alexander Hamilton appear on the logo of your party?"

"But because he is the very first rock-star, of course!"

On this mysterious answer, the door of the library steeped itself on her brilliant smile...

Secousses. Fracas. Eblouissement.

Le métro surgit du tunnel et s'engagea sur la longue section aérienne qui menait vers le Loop. Je m'approchai de la vitre, plissai les yeux puis admirai le rapide défilement de Chicago, plusieurs mètres plus bas. Arrivé à la station, je me laissai entraîner par le flot d'individus hâtés, descendis des marches interminables et me retrouvai dans la rue. Sur le trottoir d'en face, de l'autre côté de la chaussée bondée de véhicules vrombissants, un homme me faisait signe. J'ajustai mon chapeau, agrippai ma mallette puis traversai la chaussée dans sa direction.

"Soyez le bienvenu à Chicago, monsieur Dhelk", lança-t-il en me serrant vigoureusement la main. "Molly vous attend chez elle. Je serai votre chauffeur".
Il désigna d'un geste une flamboyante moto à la carrosserie rutilante et aux roues agressives, se trouvant derrière lui.
"Je crains toutefois que vous ne deviez troquer votre chapeau contre ce casque", ajouta-t-il tout sourire.

Nous traversions l'avenue à toute allure. Mon chauffeur slalomait avec adresse entre les véhicules amassés sur la chaussée. Les hautes tours de chaque côté de la rue se succédaient dans un défilement incessant. Le course fut courte. Nous arrivâmes rapidement devant un haut portail de fer forgé, se dressant devant un imposant manoir, coincé entre deux tours de verre qui s'élançaient vers les cieux. On me fit entrer, puis l'on me conduisit dans une salle démesurée, dont un pan de mur entier était recouvert de livres.

"Bienvenue dans ma bibliothèque privée", me lança une voix douce dans mon dos.
Je me retournai.
"Je suis Molly Emma. Présidente du Parti Fédéraliste. Je vous en prie, asseyez-vous. Je crois que nous avons beaucoup de choses à nous dire".





D'un geste, elle m'invita à prendre place autour d'une table basse en cerisier, dans un confortable fauteuil de cuir. Avec élégance, elle se mut entre les piles de livres entassées ça et là, puis s'installa en face de moi. Elle arborait un sourire radieux et faisait preuve d'un aplomb particulièrement déroutant pour une dirigeante politique d'un si jeune âge. A vrai dire, le personnage me passionnait. Je décidai donc d'entamer cette entrevue en me focalisant sur son parcours personnel.

"Avant d'aborder les questions concernant directement le Parti Fédéraliste, je voudrais que nous parlions un peu de vous, Molly Emma. Vous venez d'être récemment réélue à la tête de votre parti, entamant de ce fait votre second mandat, mais peut-être serait-il bon que nous dressions un rapide portrait de vous-même. Ma question est donc simple : qui êtes-vous, Molly Emma?"

- Je suis ravie que vous procédiez à cette démarche de présentation avant d'entrer, à proprement parler, dans le vif du sujet, répondit-elle.
Toutefois, il me faut vous prévenir et prévenir nos lecteurs : je ne suis pas très familière des longues tirades relatives au curriculum vitae de chacun. Je m'en tiendrais donc à la simple précision que j'occupe actuellement les postes de Présidente du Parti Fédéraliste et de Secrétaire d'Etat à l'Intérieur."

Bien qu'abrupte, cette entrée en matière laissait présager qu'elle n'était autre qu'une femme d'action, davantage concentrée sur les aspects particulièrement concrets de la politique, plutôt que sur les fioritures de façade. Je prenais donc acte de cette orientation volontaire de l'entrevue vers des questionnements de fond et enchaînait sur le Parti Fédéraliste.

"Votre parti est relativement ancien sur la scène politique américaine, il a notamment été témoin et acteur des grandes évolutions des Etats-Unis. Cependant, nombre de joueurs de par le Nouveau Monde n'ont une connaissance que partielle de ce géant de la politique américaine. Pour nos lecteurs internationaux, comment décririez-vous le Parti Fédéraliste?"

Elle se redressa sur son fauteuil. Ses mains se posèrent sur ses jambes croisées.

"Ce genre de questions me plaît davantage, déclara-t-elle en riant.
Les "Feds" sont présents sur la scène politique américaine depuis près de trois ans. Il n'est que très peu de partis dans le Nouveau Monde qui puissent se targuer d'une telle longévité. Qui plus est, cette étonnante continuité s'est accompagnée d'une structuration permanente de nos mécanismes internes, faisant aujourd'hui du Parti Fédéraliste une véritable institution. Le message qu'il porte se fait donc l'écho d'une réflexion inscrite dans l'Histoire des Etats-Unis. Et, si j'avais à résumer son idéologie à trois mots, ce serait : "Country, Party, Self" (NDLR : comprendre une déclinaison des intérêts allant de l'intérêt commun à l'intérêt particulier [Pays > Parti > Individu]).

- Si je comprends bien, le Parti Fédéraliste s'est, en quelque sorte, investi d'une mission à l'égard de la Nation?

- Exact. Les "Feds" croient fermement en l'existence d'un intérêt commun supérieur à n'importe quel intérêt partisan ou particulier. Nous avons d'ailleurs inscrit ce principe fondamental dans la Federalist Party Plateform, sorte de Charte solennelle réaffirmant tous les grands principes que nous défendons. Le Parti a toujours fait preuve d'une vigilance constante à l'égard des comportements inappropriés au bon développement de notre pays, et nous nous faisons les dénonciateurs des ennemis de la démocratie.

- Le Parti Fédéraliste dispose donc d'un rôle de garde-fou, mais ne constitue pas un véritable organe de proposition?

Elle contesta vigoureusement.

"N'allez pas croire cela ! Nos préoccupations sociétales, notamment, constituent la bases de notre programme. Le Parti Fédéraliste milite avant tout pour une éducation très poussée de tous les citoyens américains. Nous sommes convaincus qu'une Nation ne peut pas atteindre son firmament si la plupart de ses citoyens est mal informée et qu'ils ne saisissent pas les enjeux en présence. Nous sommes ainsi partie prenante d'une grande responsabilisation des partis à l'égard de la formation de leur membres. Il en va de la pérennité de nos institutions. Le Congrès et le gouvernement ne peuvent être des lieux d'éducation. Ils doivent êtres animés par des individus rompus aux mécaniques du Nouveau Monde, et, selon nous, cette éducation passe les partis politiques.

- Vous prenez donc particulièrement à cœur l'organisation de la société?

- Pour ce qui est de la formation politique, c'est indéniable. Mais à côté de cela, nous avons pleinement conscience que ce qui fait l'intérêt d'une Nation dans le Nouveau Monde, c'est sa communauté. Plus on se sent bien, plus on s'amuse en communauté, et plus on s'investit! Voilà notre mot d'ordre."

Les préoccupations sociales étaient de toute évidence très ancrées dans le programme du Parti Fédéraliste. Mais j'étais curieux de connaître la position du parti quant trois grands autres domaines de gouvernance. J'axai donc ma question suivante sur les Affaires Etrangères, la Défense et l'Economie. Après un moment de réflexion, Molly Emma se leva, et vint se placer face à la gigantesque fenêtre en arc-de-cercle qui inondait la pièce d'une lumière dorée.

"Malheureusement, pour ce qui est de l'Economie, l'action politique n'a quasiment plus aucune portée. Tant que les mécanismes micro et macro-économiques ne seront pas réformés, toute politique économique demeurera inefficace."

Elle se détourna de la fenêtre et revint vers le fauteuil.

"Concernant les Affaires Etrangères, monsieur Dhelk, nous apportons notre soutien tout entier à la cause de l'alliance TERRA et à la défense de ses intérêts. Rien de très innovant, donc, mais la loyauté nous est chère. Enfin, au sujet de la Défense, sachez que le Parti Fédéraliste est l'un des derniers partis à être largement associé à une milice. L'organisation structurelle de notre puissance de frappe nous concerne au plus haut point."

Le moment était venu d'aborder des questions d'actualité. J'évoquai ainsi les élections du Congrès.

"Ah, le Congrès... murmura-t-elle.
Il s'agit du seul évènement d'ampleur nationale autour duquel la communauté toute entière peut se rassembler chaque mois. Aux Etats-Unis, nous prenons ces élections, à la fois avec beaucoup d'importance, mais aussi avec l'objectif de passer vingt-quatre heures de convivialité! Heureusement, il n'existe que très peu de groupes malintentionnés vis-à-vis du Congrès dans notre pays, la compétition se déroule donc entre les partis et nous y prenons beaucoup de plaisir !

- Dernière question, Molly Emma, et peut-être pas la moindre : comment jugez-vous le mandat présidentiel qui s'achève?

- Le président Oblige a pris les rênes, le 5 Février dernier, d'un pays qui n'a jamais connu pareille prospérité. La mandature qui s'achève a été un mois de pur plaisir, notamment sur le plan militaire, et c'est pourquoi je suggère que nous levions notre verre à la gloire de TEDEN!

Nous bûmes un verre de Whisky, scellant ainsi la fin de cette très enrichissante entrevue, puis Molly Emma me raccompagna à la porte de la bibliothèque. Je pris la direction de la sortie, lorsque je me retournai subitement.

"Encore une question Molly Emma : pourquoi avoir choisi de faire figurer Alexander Hamilton sur le logo de votre parti?

- Mais parce qu'il n'est autre que la toute première rock-star, bien sûr!"

Sur cette réponse mystérieuse, la porte de la bibliothèque se renferma sur son sourire éclatant...
