Hello eCanada,

Last night, EPIC wrapped up our Country Presidential Primary Vote. On the ballot were five hopeful candidates, being Jefflav, Octavian_F, Philip Delle Palme, Sir Arthur William Currie, and Addy Lawrence, who all looked for EPIC's nomination. In the end, we had 49 members who submitted their vote, ranking these candidates from most preferred to least preferred. These preference votes were tallied up using the Instant-Runoff Voting method (explained here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instant-runoff_voting), to determine who our party, as a whole, preferred.

As always though, EPIC, as independents, would like to encourage citizens to vote responsibly based on their choice, not on other people's or your party's choice. Vote smart and with your heart!

And now to the results..

The first round of Instant-RunOff voting is fairly simple: we just look at everyone's first preference, so let's do that now.

Oh, btw, I love how useful GoogleDocs are 😁

So we know everyone's first preference, but no candidate has the 50%+1 (at this point, that would be 25 top preferences) of preferences that the Instant-RunOff method requires. So we remove the least preferred candidate, Octavian_F. The votes that had Octavian_F listed as their most preferred candidate will be shifted over, so that their second preferred is now their top preference. So let's see what that looks like.

So you can see that the three top-preference votes that were Octavian_F's have now been changed to other options. No candidate has that 50%+1 yet, though, so we remove the least preferred candidate once again. This time, that's you, Jefflav. So let's see who it looks now.

I feel like a race-horse commentator, almost.

Jefflav's five top preferrence votes have been moved elsewhere, and we look again to see if a candidate has 50%+1. None of them do, but on the bright side, we only have two candidates in the next round, so this can't go on much longer. Now, it's time to shift Philip Delle Palme's top preference votes over to their next preference.

So, at this point, that 50%+1 number is 24 (49-3/2 = 23). As we can see, that's the number of magical votes that Addy Lawrence has received. Hence, using this preferential voting method, Addy Lawrence is EPIC's most preferred candidate for the upcoming elections, and will receive our nomination for October 5th.

A thank you goes out to all the other candidates for taking part in EPIC's Primary Vote, good luck to you all. The last thank you goes out to all of the EPIC members. They are the ones who make all of this possible, so thank you not only for being EPIC, but for participating in our party.

Yours Truly,
