[eNL] Last Gasp or Calm Before the Storm?

Day 3,922, 10:13 Published in Netherlands Netherlands by NoTie112
Dear citizens and other readers,

Every now and then I log onto eRepublik and try to back into it again. Over the past couple weeks I have been lurking in the shadows and observing the current state of the eNetherlands. In addition to that, I've taking a pleasure in reading old articles by myself and other notables in the eDutch society. Whilst reading one can only hope for these times to return. As it's no secret I like to use my silver-tongued persona to make long articles; here's another one of Tonie's Rants.

Last time I actively played eRepublik was in the beginning of 2018. I was Country President for two terms and had good hopes of reenergizing the eNetherlands. We became used to safeguard Country Presidents - notables who only keep the Government running in its most bare tasks. And that is certainly no insult to anyone, as we do need such people as well in times of need.

For a short while it seemed during my terms there was still a glimmer of hope in our enduring existence. During my terms more governmental articles were written than the terms ever since combined (8 CP Articles in 2 months versus 4 CP Articles since February). We even saw the occasional article by other Ministries and citizens chipping in on current affairs in the media. We saw a renewed spirit in daring to progress instead of upholding the tired status quo that is putting our country in deep sleep. Our Finances were being reorganized and considered to be used for our citizens, the Monetary Market program ran again (for a short while) ensuring profits, an old and bitter conflict within DAF was solved, some (forum) laws were simplified and even considered to be totally reformed, and, indeed, it was the last time the Forum was 'active'.

But the disciples of the status quo had bitterly fought over each of these changes in every step of the way, putting a renewed flame to rest. Most importantly they refused in some ways to take efforts for the better of our eCountry, most blatantly by the broken promise for two months to contact all old/dead citizens who have a forum account; a renewed impulse in population numbers we could have greatly used.

After being CP for 12 terms the crown got a bit old tho

And, alas, we're back at square one. Despite several lasting improvements (e.g. in Finances and in DAF), the ghouls of the status quo have taken over again. The eNetherlands is put on autopilot by concurrent Governments (with notable exceptions in e.g. Shawtyl0w - who is leaving politics as he just announced) and those few who remain in the Country have lost any and all hope in the game and country.

The media is at times completely dead for weeks (an unicum in our history), the forum is only filled with procedural elections of a position that is considered a paper tiger (Chairman), ruling over an empty world detached from 'reality' in-game. People have become lazy by the safety and routine of the TW with Canada and indeed the only sound that can be heard in our eCountry is that of the message of 'Next RW at Day X'. Political Parties have lost all and any function in the eNetherlands, being all followers of the prophet of the status quo and if they are not - they are barely existing anymore.

All defended by the holy dogma of 'we have too few citizens' (whilst we've been having so few citizens for years and certainly saw impressive activity most of the time all things considered) we are all forsaking our responsibility as citizens of the eNetherlands. Yes, keep hunting those shiny TP medals only to log-out afterwards - while you still can. And yes, once in a while we see some flame in our society, the election between Alexthebest and Odan for example or the stay of foreigners like JantyF here, but any renewed energy that is found therein in quickly shut down.

Consider this a pamphlet for action, an incoherent rant, a wake-up call, or a nostalgic fairy tale. Regardless, it's time to stop being silent/silenced and step up your game. If there's anyone out there, anyone, who still has the patriotic instinct to improve and protect our country show yourself and great things can be achieved - even a handful of people is enough to lead our country out of the darkness (as history has shown) and lifting up the rest of country in a revolutionary flame.
NoTie112,
Disappointed citizen of the eNetherlands.
