[EN/FR] Winning the Future
AugustusV
English Version:
Good evening folks, you know, I'm not usually known for running for President, but there has to be a first time for everything right? Jokes aside I'm here today to address my first public declaration to run for the highest office in this country; that of the President of Canada.
Indeed times are dark; thefts, incompetence, division. History will not remember the past few months too fondly, but then again history can hardly remember us at all, and that is an issue that should bother us even more.
Ask yourself, how will history remember us? As the nation that stood above all overs? As the fierce superpower, the thriving economic powerhouse, or the awesome community? Will history remember us at all? Truth be told, we are neither of the exciting things I mentioned above.
Frankly, we are losing the future, and it is not because we can't do great things, but rather it's because we do not have the willpower to do so. We are a nation built on fear; afraid to think big, afraid to change, afraid to act. This must all change.
If we are to win the future, if we are to make history remember us as we so rightfully deserve, we must think big. We must act now, and we must be prepared to deal with the mistakes we make along the way. The road to glory is not a smooth road, nor is it an easy road, but it is a road we must take if we wish to reach the glory at the end.
What I propose to you is not a month of more stewardship, but a month of more leadership, of more innovation, and of more change; real change. Many may know me as the unorthodox politician that would not give up, but I am not here to flaunt my skills, I am here to flaunt yours.
Canada is talented, Canada is able, and Canada can win the future. What Canada must do is try. I am not promising to solve all problems, I am promising to allow us to work to together to solve them. I am proposing to start creating the type of problems worth solving. The types of problems that involve not senseless kangaroo court debates, but how we can become the best place to live, how we can gain new resources, how we can become a better community, these are the types of problems worth tackling, and the types of problems worth solving.
Over the next few days I will outline my plan to make our dream a reality. I hope that after so much stagflation, that we can finally achieve our golden era in eRepublik history, when we can be proud of who we are and let the world know it.
Democracy entails a certain level of responsibility, and I am ready to take on the responsibility of leading our rise to glory, but democracy is not a one-man show. Canada needs your help, Canada and needs your talents, Canada needs your dedication. We may not always be the best, but let no man say that we stood idly by. Canada, do not doubt for a second that you don't have what it takes to be great. If Bulgaria can be the top nation in this game, even if for only a short while, there is no reason why we can't seize our own moment of fame.
Let's give history something to remember.
Canada, are you ready to start winning the future?
Version Française:
A kind thank you to M. Loiselle for doing this excellent translation.
😃

Winning the future? Today is already lost!
United we stand. o7
As much as you seem to want to lead Canada into a glorious future, your fatal flaw Octavian is that you simply do not possess one of the most important leadership skills: ability to unite a team around you.
While you may have solid ideas at times, you are ill-equipped as a team player. Your history to date shows repeatedly that you are quick to frame criticism as perceived slights against you, which often leads you to waste resources on corrosive if not ridiculous personal battles.
Frankly, you're infinitely better at alienating people from your disposition than you are at rallying support around a valid idea.
You have obvious confidence, but it is spiked by the poison of some form of inferiority. I think you truly believe in what you say, think, and do, but the inferiority manifests itself in your persistent framing of disagreements under the notion that everyone who challenges your ideas is out to get you. I won't say it's paranoid, but it's definitely a ticket to conflict that we just don't need.
I think a variety of people have been willing to outwardly take the position that we should give you the chance to grow into the respected, effective leader you clearly wish to be. For me, and in view of the fragile situation we're currently in, I'd say I'm done waiting.
I imagine you'll label this as trolling and myself a troll for commenting as I have, but this is my honest opinion. And at the end of the day, part of being in a leadership role means finding constructive ways to deal with criticism, even if it's of your character.
Salty fails
"Octavian_F Winning the Future!" or the shortened version for adverts, "Octavian_F WTF!"
^ haha I knew someone would pick up on that sooner or later. Lmao
We could do worse, in fact we have
Srs questions for you, O ambitious one...
You always seem to be aiming to be president, chairman and supreme leader of everything you're involved in - How much of a team player you could ever be?
When have you ever set your own ambitions aside and served in someone else's cause? If so, for how long and at what point did you consider the job done?
"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone"
hb741, I am spending time, effort and money on the Progressive Rationalist project right now am I not? Also, why is it ok for everyone else to be a perfect altruistic person when they run for CP but I am always the vile selfish one?
Please take your bias somewhere else.
Also, the job is never done. There is always more work to do.
Good-luck to you
I will also be running for CP
Good Luck Octo!
Octo, who said you're vile? You seem to be proving Salty right by being so thin-skinned. Are you running for CP, but not taking any questions on it? PR is an org you founded and lead - that's the opposite of what I was asking you to elaborate on.
Comment on a project you've been involved in that wasn't founded and/or lead by you, yourself and your ego.
Good luck, Octavian_F. You're going to be running against some pretty hefty candidates.
Unfortunately, you have been removed by Octavian_F from his friends list.
LOL!
I don't lead PR. Get with the program if you're going to rant about it. Also, I really don't want to have a personal argument with you here. Your aggressive and insulting tone is not encouraging any sort of proper debate.
Also, thanks to all you other fellas for your kind words of encouragement. I really appreciate it! \o/
I can see you just put the entire thing into a Translator. Crap French. 😃
Actually it was a personal translation and as you can see it is slightly modified because of this. Also other French people have said this translation is amazing.
Lol but stop hatin on the details and focus on the substance.
this is the man of future, eCanada's future
Ça fait toujours du bien de voir qui en qui pense encore à faire traduire leur candidature pour les francos 😃
I'm all with you, best of luck.
FTW: F*ck this weirdo!
Lol Lincon. Thanks toad.
Also, merci beaucoup Shakyl!
I am looking forward to this campaign and I think those who are judging Octavian on his past are going to be surprised by the personal growth this guy has made.
There is nothing wrong with knowing you want to be in charge...in fact its a great quality of a type A personality.
I have been one of Octo's greatest detractors over the last many months but my talks with him on IRC and PM have led me to believe he has the tools and the wherewithal to see this through.
Good luck Octo and to everyone else...reserve your judgment, you just never know what surprises may be in store!
I wish you luck on your 1st..
2nd..
3rd..
4th..
I wish you luck for this, and every future, run at president.
Jamesw can be excused for the trolling. He's from the eUk hehe. \o/
And thanks Acacia for the kind words. 😃
Your history has shown me this: you write an article full of broad sweeping ideals, exactly like this one.
You always promise to expand on your plans "soon" or "in an upcoming article", or like this time "in the next few days"
But those articles NEVER arrive.
Read back over his past articles, the record is there for anyone to see.
I hope you prove me wrong this time.
Can we see your actual economic plans?
Can we see your plans for military funding?
Can we see anything of substance whatsoever?
I don't mind fluff and rhetoric, when it is filling in the gaps of substance. But all you ever write is fluff.
It's true lucasmon, I usually retired from the race before I published my other platforms. However this time I'm going all the way. Your concern is very much a real issue.
This time you'll get everything you requested there and much more.
And yes, without the platforms behind it, all this is just rhetoric and fluff. I will make sure that it will not be so. Stay tuned bud.
Also a quick correction lucasmon, I do have many articles on reports done by myself, one even reaching top 1 article so when you say "all you ever write is fluff" don't confuse CP runs with my newspaper.
Also if you do look way back, I did publish all my platforms in so much detail, people said they were too long.
All in all recently I have tried to run half-heartily and have not done proper platforms that is true. Again my next platform on economics is coming either later today or early tomorrow. You can run me up on that.
In the movie Groundhog Day, Phil Connors (Bill Murray) finally breaks out of the sisyphean time-loop when he turns over a new leaf that allows him to shag Andie MacDowell.
Next Wednesday night, Octavian_F, get laid real good and then we'll finally break the cycle. You can do it ~ be the ladies man, focus on male-female unity, wake up the next morning a born winner.
For if you fail, many dark days do portend.
Gobbler's Knob & a gratuitous GH Day Clip (not to be confused with GF Day)
We already lost when we went down the road to role play.
There's nothing to win now
I shall support you! And good luck!
OK Octo, be that way - the way I see it I'm just asking you the questions the polite types are thinking but don't ask because they don't like confrontation - I'm doing you a favour by asking you the unasked question so you get a chance to answer it.
Not that you have anything in common Wes Lewis (see, I'm being nice otherwise you'll assume it was just an insinuation) - but what happened last time around when the electorate didn't ask tough questions about whether it was a good idea to give dear Wesley a 2nd chance and elect him as CP?
You go in circles asking the same questions I already answered like 50 times.
Octavian, your reaction to hb741's entirely legit question(s) confirmed exactly what I was talking about.
Instead of answering his question and taking his criticism, you accused him of bias against you, trolling, being negative, etc.
All you had to do was act like a leader... instead you acted like Octavian.
Thanks for the tips saltydog.
I'll answer platform-related questions, not the same questions I've been answering over and over again.
There is no platform. Does that means you just don't want to answer any question?
The concernes of hb741 were absolutely legit and instead of telling him of an organisation you served in, you mentioned one you founded yourself.
I serve in the CAF, I served in TCO, I personally funded the COG though I played no part in it. There are some organizations I "served in" but did not found.
Honestly, I have no idea what this has to do with anything. But you fellas want to invent some legitimate concern I could care less about so continue on if you wish, I'm only really interested in platforms.
Lucasmon, here is the platform I promised yesterday: http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/it-039-s-the-economy-stupid-1657515/1/20
Enjoy!
small man is small
^ ohai thar! o/
Octo, if you can show us that you can be conciliatory, and thicken your skin a little, I am sure that you will have the capacity to be one of Canada's greatest leaders. I've got faith in you, but you'll soon have to prove to all of use that you really do deserve this trust.
Good luck. o7
