MESSAGE FROM THE EDITOR, SAMGIBZ: I would like to introduce you to Kostyav, an promising new citizen of eSouth Africa. I have helped and encouaged him to be more active and help to getting himself now in the stage of eSouth Africa. Part of this was getting him to write an article to get himself out there. He came up with this article below which is solely his work. Please welcome him to our community and rate the article. I must express it is not my view and that it is now due to recent changes, becoming out of date. It is still a good read however. Thanks.

Decision eSouth Africa: A Focus on eRepublik's Alliances

With the recent debates in our eSA forum and in the eRepublik newspapers over the future of eSouth Africa's commitment and involvement in an alliance, this article is aimed at using a snapshot of the current state of eRepublik's Alliances and how each of them measure, to hopefully help make an argument based on the numbers.

Thank you President Rexdeus, Minister Shiloh DeGreat, Minister Belea2008 and Wallachian from the Eden HQ by replying to my requests and help shape this article. Special thanks to SamGibz who's mentored and encouraged me throughout this process!

All figures for this article were based on statistics found on April 19, 2011. The article will highlight Population statistics, new citizen counts, citizen’s requests pending, treasury accounts, region count and the current resource each enation possess of the possible 10.

Included with each alliance will be a link to their official newspaper, eRep Wiki and comments on each alliance!

With our current MPPs (eSpain, ePoland, eRep. of Macedonia and eHungary) stacked in support of ONE Alliance enations, it seems like this is the natural direction of our eForeign Policy. "Indeed we have been gravitating towards ONE over the last couple of months", states President Rexdeus, "this is not a sudden direction simply a continuation towards stability for eSA."

ONE, by basing it on numbers alone, is the epowerhouse of eRepublik's Alliances. While we enjoy close relations with ePoland, eHungary and eSpain, our MPP with the eRepublic of Macedonia comes with some questions. Apparently our MPP with the Rep. of Macedonia was actually an error on the part of the eMacedonian CP and not properly debated in our Congress before it was passed. Ideally, because of our relations with ONE, the MPP with eMacedonia would have strengthened our relationship with the Alliance, if:

1. It was a genuine commitment on part of the eMacedonian government,

2. If it was properly debated in Congress (as it was a direction in our foreign policy that deserved to be debated within Congress and with all eSouth Africans). Given our limited funds for MPPs, at a cost of 10 000 ZARs and 10 000 local currency for the other enation for each MPP) any MPP should be supported by our entire nation Congressmen/women and ecitizens alike.

With our involvement with ONE, it potentially opens up a new front for the alliance against eSouth America, which could be some cause for concern for eBrazil, eArgentina and the eUS.

Minister Shiloh DeGreat is currently one of eSA's most outspoken supporters of eSA's involvement in Terra.

For anyone who hasn't read Minister Shiloh's personal opinion on eSA's support of the Terra Alliance, I encourage you to read his article (Don't forget to vote, subscribe and comment):

In my questionnaire Shiloh states "Currently, the Ministry (MoD) does not support a specific alliance. While my deputy and I do have our own opinions on alliances, I try to make it where our opinions do not interfere with our work. I follow orders from the President and do not seek out allies without his approval. "He went on to recognize the support eSA has received from ONE in the past.

While some eSouth Africans view this option nothing short of sacrilege, the concept could possibly be considered a 'Hold your friends close, but your enemies closer' approach. Apparently the current eUS President Emerick, has expressed an interested in signing an MPP with eSA, which our President has stated that this is something that we would not be seeking with them.

All government officials contacted expressed optimism with future negotiations of Land Rental Agreements with eBrazil that the eUS has agreed to mediate, but all have agreed that relations, while better, are still strained. eBrazil has expressed a desire to end our long war and bring stability to our region but rejected our nation's last offer for a Rental Agreement.

If eBrazil accepts eSA terms of rent, or we come to an agreement with the eUS helping to broker the deal, would that effect the direction of eSA's Foreign Policy or on the other hand what would our leadership be prepared to do if the next round of talks fail?

Eden with the support of eGreece, eBulgaria and eChina hold the balance of power. With some purporting that EDEN is on the decline, will they remain independent or dissolve to support Terra remains to be seen. Generally there is no known support for EDEN as an option for eSA.

I chose to include ABC, not as a viable option for eSA, but as a possibility outside the current debate. Currently, ABC seems to enjoy support from the ONE Alliance which makes for a possible direction we might consider.

Is it possible that eSA can create a regional block of smaller nations with the support of a larger Alliance? Would it be possible to create a co-operative alliance with enations like eMexico, eVenezuela and ePeru?

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Belea2008's responses to the questionnaire:

Our MoFA should engage ONE Affiliate Non-Members in South/Central America to strengthen regional stability through diplomacy; as different as we may be we all share common grievances. We should consider strengthening our diplomatic efforts with eIndonesia.

While we're in negotiations with eBrazil, as a sign of our commitment, we could stop fighting in any expansion campaigns in the Americas but defend our MPPs current regions.

Any eForeign Policy Initiative with eBrazil should be based on fair Land Rental Agreements for KwaZulu and Northern Cape. Eastern Cape should be returned to eSA control. Anything short of an agreement that would respect a genuine commitment from eBrazil and Terra toward eSA should be considered by our national egovernment as Brazil's lack of respect and desire for peace and regional stability.

In that case, maybe the alternative should be to allow ONE the use of eSA as their personal pad!
