{CPF Tenet} Uphold the Equality of All Active Military Units!

Day 1,604, 08:21 Published in Canada Canada by Funky 24

In the summer of 2009, I remember having to pick my citizen up and move to Florida. It was the only region left in North America that housed a Quality 5 hospital to let me fight to my maximum against the PEACE onslaught.

Eventually I joined up with Bruck's Canucks who, along with Banach's "Canadian Resistance Movement" and the CAF, worked to keep eCanadians together during our occupation and as we awaited the hospital needed before we could return home. Most of us ended up working in Spain and Greece to keep the EDEN war machine from running out of the precious resources that were located in the two countries. Desperate times indeed.

After the Iranians, Hungarians, British and French were pushed out of eCanada, the non-CAF resistance groups consolidated and ended up becoming the Crimson Order after a month or two.

Despite the unity displayed during that World War, the establishment of another permanent military organisation led to a long year of mistrust between the new TCO upstarts and the old guard CAF (to this day[http://ecanada.cc/forums/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=16292]). The CAF guarded their reputation as Canada's National Army jealously claiming to be unique in their obedience to the President (who was usually CPP). The TCO, filled with growing numbers, challenged this and challenged not just for equality through funding, but for superiority, setting up many personal rivalries. Conquest the device used by politicians such as Acacia Mason to focus that energy elsewhere. I note the CPF-affiliated Praetors as the occasional, but never serious challenge to that paradigm, though this set the trend for MUs created as an asset for a party, such as the UN/MFC, MOO/CoI or EPIC/iL.

Fast forward to the military situation today. There are more Military groups than I care to keep track of with the arrival of the Military Unit module last year. While TCO and CAF fought for every penny back in the day, these days, with the cap on donations and popular encouragement of creating your own MU, anyone with a merry band of active players can create an MU, and get funding.

HOPE members prepare for battle!

While this seems to be the standard for new players today, it, as stated, hasn’t always been so. The CPF is a party born before the arrival of the TCO and has a legacy of working to check MU power in Congress, while making sure their interests are looked after so they can focus their energy on working with the President to win battles, at home and in the world. As with political parties, the smallest of MUs can be entirely invisible to the public. Unless you’re a favourite of a mogul like Rolo Tahmasee, you'll want to join an MU to get the only source of free food and weaponry.

With the laws in place, all active and minimum sized MUs are equal under the law. Their character, power, strengths, clout and adherence to Battle Orders however are all different. The focus on military progress for the CPF constitutes making sure that the MUs are treated without favouritism. I’ve had to deal with TCO and CAF hotheads too many times to know that this is still an issue.

We could just merge all MUs and I'll be the leader...

The CPF will work to keep the donations flowing and extra funding in the form of start-up bursaries to help the smaller MUs catch up. I don't want to imagine the infrastructure it takes to get a fully stocked MU to get players to join. The CPF is enthusiastic to learn from Wilhem's Gunter's revival of the Praetors to learn the challenges of Congressional approval, acquiring companies and figuring out how to grow when your MU doesn't appear on that Top 5 list.

A CPF Executive will always include all funded MUs with military planning. While some focus their gaze on the new MUs to watch for slip-ups, CPF members will work to ensure that the same attention is applied to the big, the medium, the small, the apolitical and those with political party connections. eCanada has shown to be very fragile domestically when the war front stagnates. Disparities in MUs have always helped break that peace. Maintaining fairness is an existential priority for us.

While the military aspect of this game can become dull over time, the MU will always be there to either reinvigorate that aspect, or at least lengthen the time span a player chooses to remain active. It also provides a sense of camaraderie with your fellow rank-in-file and remains a fantastic way of stimulating activity for eCanadians who might otherwise two-click or get dissatisfied with only politics to keep them interested.
