[eUS COMBAT ORDERS] Fight on the dictator side
http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/2505063/1/20
Today a coup was launched by our President. The result, if successful, will be that the mechanical form of our governance ingame will change to a Dictatorship. I want to spend a few paragraphs explaining this.
As soon Plato revealed the details of the Dictatorship module, it was quickly realized that eUSA’s greatest defensive military advantage was gone. Our 50+ core regions has always served as a buffer against invasion. If we lost a few states, it barely affected us. Our strength was in how very long it took to conquer us. The Dictatorship module completely evened the playing field. eUSA was now, just like every other eNation, always just 3 hours away from one big campaign which could end it all. Essentially, the Dictatorship module became a super-region. Win it and you’ve won the entire country.
Because eUSA has the richest set of economic bonuses in the game, we are like a ripe plum waiting to be plucked. Insider intel and eUSA’s spy network has already revealed at least one plot to attempt a violent coup of eUSA. If a coup were to be launched against us in the middle of our night, we would all wake up to a battle that would likely already be several mini-rounds’ advantage to our enemy. Winning it would be extremely costly. Losing it would be our Armageddon.
Examining the mechanics of the Dictatorship module revealed a key strategy to creating a buffer against the lightening quick potential for our demise. By installing our own elected Country President as the ingame Dictator, we create a line of defense against violent attempts at takeover. For one thing, any enemy will have to first depose our duly elected “dictator” in an expensive revolution. This is our “front line” of defense. We would intend to win a battle such as this, and if we do we have at least 3 days to plan in case another attempt is made. However if we were to lose that “revolution”, we then have 10 days to plan before our enemies are able to launch their own Dictatorship coup against us. The difference between a 3 hour warning and a 10 day warning is enormous. We need it.
And so I am proud to have authored the legislation that passed through Congress (and survived an attempt at repeal) which is coming to fruition today. Wild Owl has clicked the button which will launch (in one hour from the time I am writing these words) our friendly coup of eUSA.
What will change?
In effect, nothing about our governance will change. Our elected Congresswo/men will still be responsible for passing all the same laws they have always handled. Once passed, the President, who as Dictator controls all of the ingame buttons, will click the buttons in eRepublik. So from the perspective of checks and balances, nothing will have changed.
Congress is going to begin discussions about how to reformat our Constitution so that it reads more consistently with life under a friendly dictator. This is a great time to be in and run for Congress.
FAQ
Aren’t we more vulnerable to a rogue Dictator than we would be to a rogue CP?
No. There is no difference between the access a CP and a Dictator has to the National orgs. The only thing a rogue Dictator can do that a rogue CP cannot do is pass a law. The worst case would be that he passes a donation law, stealing somewhere around $400,000. In such a case, he would trigger an immediate revolution, meaning he wouldn’t get another chance to steal again, as a successful revolution deposes him as Dictator. Furthermore, Plato has clarified that any money transfers that Dictators do during a Revolution will be reversed. So the $400,000 will not actually be stolen.
Doesn’t this ruin Congress’ powers?
No. Congress continues to exist primarily on the eUS Forum where our Constitution and Code dictate how Congress behaves. While a few adjustments will have to be made detailing Congress’ relationship with the CP/Dictator, our situation remains unchanged. All powers which belong to Congress under a normal Country President will be retained by Congress who will control which buttons the Dictator pushes. All powers which belong to the CP will be retained by the Dictator.
What if this is an evil scheme by Pfeiffer to take over the entire country with his evil?
No. I hear there is a sale on Tin Hats at WalMart this week. Pfeiffer actually had little or nothing to do with this bill, I wrote it. And believe me, if I wanted to take over eUSA as Dictator, I could find a much easier way than by passing it through our Government. So could Pfieffer or anyone else. And that is actually the entire reason why we are doing this to begin with… because of how easy it is to launch a coup. If Wild Owl goes rogue, I will issue the biggest public apology eRepublik has ever seen. It’s not going to happen.
But what was that other coup attempt last week by Rainy Sunday and the Broforce MU?
It was, to the best of my awareness, a troll. It was an expensive one, and it was disruptive, but it was not actually harmful. Neither was it a legitimate attack on our Sovereignty. I firmly believe that if it had been successful, we’d be no better or worse off than we will be after today’s successful coup.
So what side of today’s coup should I fight on?
USAF is open. If you join USAF for today, you will be able to fight on the correct side of the coup. If your military unit is one of the many that has joined in, you don’t need to move. You will need to locate your citizen in Colorado.
Are those MU's fighting against the coup unAmerican?
I am glad you asked. No. They are protesting against Congress. They were the minority voice in Congress and rather than upholding the decisions of that august body, they are attempting to assert their will on the country. You could make the argument that they are actually doing the exact thing that they are afraid Pfeiffer is doing... they are acting out of accordance with the governing body of our country. That is undeniable. But I just choose to think that they are acting out of misplaced principles. I sort of respect them for it, but I just think they're wrong.

President Wild Owl vs Dictator Wild Owl.... OMGWTFBBQ
\o/
Ya sorry Gnilraps, not buying in on your propaganda. The right to bear arms comes from having the freedom to fight against those in power if they are a threat to freedom. that is what this is. a threat to freedom.and it's damn eAmerican to fight for this. Definitely not unAmerican lol
How will you decide the amount of congress members each month? are you having a poll on forums? if at some point the majority votes against the current dictatorship, you will have to abide by the constitution and run a president again.
Anyways, o7 to all sides of the same coin
"How will you decide the amount of congress members each month?"
What do you mean? Congress, PP, and POTUS elections happen as normal every month in game. The only significant change to the election process is that Congress and CP medals won't give gold under a dictatorship.
ok cool
And congress will have no absolute right to impeach the dictator, no mechanism to do so in game.
BTW folks, this is being funded by your tax dollars. The highest tax rate in countries of any serious size in game.
How is this a threat to freedom? It reduces the chances of PTO's, so if anything it helps to protect your freedom.
A right to bear arms offends me, as I am smarter than the average bear, but not by much, and thus liable to having my arms removed by "so called patriots"
If they right to bear arms offends you, then let I suggest you immigrate elsewhere....
obviously the best usa can do to save its democracy is to kill it, so this idea should be supported by all eamericans
dictator can pass on dictatorship, so next month we are choosing our new aladeen 🙂
One other point in this strategy which Canada invoked on day one.
After the 10 days you have at least a 50/50 chance of pushing the coup button before the enemy can. So after paying 200K plus who knows how much more just to bring you back to democracy, it all comes down to who can push a button first for the second stage.
Pretty risky odds. I don't foresee anyone taking this gamble.
You could also increase your odds by having more then 1 loyal MU commander trying to push the button 1st.
wait... we would have to reassert our safe dictatorship every 10 days to stay safe?
don't we have players in the Cabinet who are in RL time zones all over the world, and they all have the President and others' phone numbers.. to do a call to arms to defend against an enemy coup in the middle of the night?
I doubt you would ever have to reassert your safe dictatorship because no one would be stupid enough to try to take it away now.
1) Pay 200K to start the campaign for democracy.
2) Win that campaign then wait 10 days.
3) Manage to push the button first to pay another 200K
4) Win another campaign.
It is a fools errand to even try.

No, these are the costs of sticking with non-dictatorship
Preserve our freedom engage in the peaceful coup!
Voted!

pure butthurt
Awwww yeah, a Hitler-reference will show Gnilraps that this article was "pure propaganda"
Wait what
Godwin's Law: "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1."
It never fails.
Where Is Franklin Stone with the Ben Franklin quote?
Smart ma old Ben.
You mean something like
"By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail."
No I was thinking along the line of giving some liberty for security...
He actually said, "Those who would give up *essential* Liberty, to purchase a *little temporary *Safety*..." The qualifiers mean everything. Perhaps using this quote when discussing the NSA is appropriate, doing so blindly in response to a well presented argument on how we're adapting to this module, less so. Benjamin Franklin, as well as the vast majority of theorists, from then or now, agree that a certain amount of liberty must be given up for security, otherwise we return to a state of nature, you know, the whole "nasty brutish and short" bit. It'd be absolutely insane to postulate as to how Benjamin Franklin would feel about a stupid module in a dying (and also stupid) browser game, but if we were forced to fall back on one of his quotes (not really my style of rhetoric to be honest), it'd be a little more accurate perhaps to go with this instea😛 "There is much truth in the Italian saying, 'Make yourselves sheep, and the wolves will eat you'"
This inane response brought to you by "applying important people's opinions to eRepublik, a quixotic game for the whole family".
Half the shit Benny said goes right against current US policy anyway, but nobody bothers to mention those parts.
@Paul Proteus
'...a stupid module in a dying (and also stupid) browser game...'
If this is how you feel about this game then when the F are you still playing it? If you feel it is dying and stupid then GTFO, leave now and let those of us who don't feel that way play the game; that FN argument is stupidity incarnate....
I stay around for the parts I do enjoy, community and media.
I never got the "IF YOU CRITICIZE THE GAME WHY ARE YOU HERE", I have every right to voice my opinion.
And tbh, the opinion that this game doesn't merit Benjamin Franklin's analysis of the constitution convention should be pretty obvious to anyone who's not obsessed with this game. Even when this game was good, it was still a game. Perhaps people who forget that are the ones who should stop playing ^___^
Yes, you have the right to your opinion. However, if you think a game -any game- is no good why would you play it?
Since this is a just a game using Ben's opinion is acceptable and is obviously someones opinion, an opinion you belittle and want to deny; if you are entitled to your opinion I am certainly entitled to mine.
Here is a saying for our wannabe, dictators;
A bird in the hand is better than two in the bush.
10 days late, but happy it's happening.
People against this have no insight in military strategy and the mechanics surrounding dictatorship. Or they believe RL morals and principles have a place here, which is even worse. If you don't play to win at least don't screw it up for those that do.
they just like role playing and fighting the "elites" makes them happy
And here I was told the guarantor of our battlefield success is a heap of money. Silly me for thinking my taxes were being used for some worthwhile cause.
Like fighting off a CW the moment we decide to attack someone, meanwhile losing battlefield initiative? That costs even more.
Yes because when we decide to attack someone, they are going to get half of their population (or more) to move here so that they can actually out-damage us enough here to distract us from ONE other battle.
Common sense. Try using it.
Yeah obviously this could never happen like how it happened in Serbia twice already etc. Eyes, try using them.
If we are going to attack somebody, they are going to divide their defenses?
As for SErbia facing two coups...they won them both. We have faced two now as well, only one succeeded was the one back by the government. What I see when I open my eyes is that the coup is not a very useful tool against larger size eCountries.
Garmr, we've been beating our heads against these brick walls for two weeks. They are actually afraid that Henry Pfieffer Arundel is secretly behind all of this and that he is masterminding this so that he can have absolute POWAH.
They are so blinded by their irrational fear that they make a mockery of themselves.
More bullshit.
Except for the very extreme cases, and we know who they are
Henry's name never came up.
Gnil, I'm sure you probably know this already, but saying, "They're just afraid of Pfeiffer" is just an easy way to explain away a more significant community issue.
I'd love to know who "They" are who are so afraid fluffy is behind this. My party is likely one of the most out-spoken against this act of tyranny that YOU have caused. And not once in our party chat have I ever seen fluffy's name mentioned.
Just yours and Wild Owls. We know who to blame for the destruction of our nation. It was he who proposed it, and he who funded it. Not he who sat in the corner and did nothing.
I have served on the NSC, so that's not entirely true.
Of course, I didn't get on the NSC, until we wiped. (You know how that goes)
I meant to say that it has clear military advantages
Really don't feel that a Dictator from a foreign country should be interfering in internal eUSA affairs. This needs rectifying now.
I can't tell if this is a joke
