[Announcement] Custer for President: Tax Reform
George Armstrong Custer
Dateline: Late January 31 2016 (Day 2994)
Location: Sun City, Arizona
Reporter: OhFU Party President Emeritus "Old Man" Custer
Music: - if there was ever an occasion when this much overused video were appropriate... I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore!
Editor’s Note: Yes, I’m dead dog serious. This is not a “for the lolz” campaign.
We're gonna start with a little "Storytime with Uncle Custer..."
Once upon a time, in a land that was once great and fine, those who were called "The Experts" knew better than the people themselves what was best for them, and so it was proclaimed...
We Need WAR!!
We were recently under threat of massive invasion, with a total wipe projected by the experts. This situation came about as the generally agreed upon solution to total boredom with “playing it safe” under the Wild Owl Policy.
When the option to pull out of Indo in exchange for peace (for free!), we saw that as an opportunity to instead goad them, along with Bulgaria and Chile, into attacking us in force.
Experts predicted a possible total wipe of the US, costing $millions, but maybe we could save ourselves and the sinking morale of our citizens.
It was a calculated risk.
I wasn’t easily convinced, but I went with it.
Gotta Pay for the WAR!!
On the outset, we were told we could swing this War.. probably.
No one said anything about an already weak Reserves being creamed in a few days.
A mere three days into the War, suddenly it’s “Urgent need to increase the Work Tax from 15% to 18% to cover the pummeling the Reserves took” to that point-- we had lost three core regions and were looking at the Invasion coming with a rapidly shrinking Reserve.
Even as that Tax increase was being passed, the Discussion continues, even to now. We got numbers in Private Congress.. graphs, charts, photos with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one explaining.. anyways, the dire urgency of the need for the full Max 25% Work Tax was sold to Congress. It was expected that we would lose regions.. lots of regions. We needed to collect Max Tax for that short time before we’d lost so many regions that we would then dump the Tax to 1%-- to avoid paying our occupiers to occupy us.
I bit. I went for it. Max Tax for, what.. a couple weeks, tops.. then we’d be on our own to work with what we’d got to fend off the wolves as best we could. That’s how a total Invasion War works.
I even made the Proposal, collected the 10 Approvals and then it went-- one day after the increase to 18% passed-- to the in-game Vote and passed. We have Max Tax! We can fund our potential survival! Yay!
But...
But the Big Invasion never really materialized. We mobilized forces, spent a lot on Combat Orders (COs, basically paying people to fight in a certain battle when the progress bar is under 52%, give or take), and made a serious impression on our aggressors.
The Big War is not actually over yet.. there’s stuff happening in Private Congress that can’t be shared till it’s time to go wide with it. Bulgaria has been successfully beaten back. Chile never did commit.. we’re watching them watch us watching them.
The Big Invasion War is over, all but the declaration of Victory.
Boatloads of $COs to achieve swift, more expensive but less fun, Victory have taken their toll on the Reserves.
Quick review:
Peace is boring, let's have War.
War was a fizzle-- we won, but so fast it wasn't much fun.
Fast victory cost a Bazillion dollars.
No fun cost a bazillion dollars.
And so those same Experts now turn their attention to the Max Tax.
They do acknowledge the indisputable exodus of American taxpayers and Top Fighters (“tanks”) to countries with less oppressive tax structures. They claim these e
😜atriots are now, not only not paying US Taxes, but aren’t even fighting for the US anymore! No evidence, but lots of finger pointing and hand wringing (try doing both of those at the same time!)
They see the Shouts, they hear Americans plea for relief, that we can’t run our Companies like this. Regular folks are looking at other low tax countries to move to.. some already have.
But do they consider dropping that Max Tax back down?
Of course not.
I’ve actually seen some Experts say that anyone who doesn’t work in a commune, or who Works-As-Manager, is stupid.
Are you stupid?
I think re-electing leadership who thinks you’re stupid might be.
And so the tide changes.. the carefully calculated tax rich waters rush in where the War has rushed out, and the Experts flock to prepare to feed on your future dollars.
New calculations, new projections, charts, graphs, photos with circles and arrows, etc..
“Max Tax will bring in $(redacted) per month.”
“Inflation-adjusted $(redacted) Reserves could be met in (redacted) months…”
Redacted, but it’s a lot of money, and a lot of months.
Experts got it all worked out.
Except for one thing...
Have another look at that screenshot of that Max Tax Proposal.
See anything there about post-war Reserves rebuilding?
No?
That’s because it’s not there.
The Proposal was strictly an Emergency War Funding measure.
Let me just say that again so it sticks:
The Proposal was strictly an Emergency War Funding measure.
War’s over. The imminent need, as outlined in the Proposal which became Law, never materialized.
So, What Now?
Want to rebuild the Reserves? Of course we do. We need to do that.
And of course, the Experts' math which shows that Max Tax will do it faster is correct.
But is it complete?
I say, a resounding, “NO.”
What have we lost, and will continue to lose, just in Tax revenues alone, due to the exodus of taxpayers and top fighters?
Oh, lots of money.. LOTS of money.
But we've lost another great measure of morale, of trust, of confidence.
This, I think, is the greater cost.
Moving Forward...
I’ve asked, in Private Congress, and have successfully steered the conversation toward, looking at exactly how much every Budget Line holder and government program spends.. and how effective they are or are not.. and whether they can find ways to cut back or even temporarily suspend receipt of Tax funds.
More math, both real and voodoo. More pictures with circles and arrows..
I’m trying to be negotiable. I’m trying to let them all find ways to chip in and carry the burden of rebuilding the Reserves, and not just have it on YOUR backs.
Might work. Might not. I ain’t holding my breath.
Which is why…
(oh, my God, is he finally getting to his freaking point??)
I am Announcing my Candidacy for the Office of the Presidency
As President.. hey, I get to be Dictator.
And I get to choose my most trusted Advisor, your next Vice President, former President Gnilraps.
I get to advise and consult and influence Congress, and from a pretty good negotiating standpoint, lobby for all kinds of reform that’s long overdue.
What do you want?
1% Taxes across the board? Not gonna happen. But we can have a realistic schedule of Taxes and spending reforms that will both rebuild the Reserves (basically our Emergency Defense Bank) and create an economic environment where we can actually function, AND convince some of our friends who've fled to come back home.
Yeah, and with no damn voodoo math or scare tactics or bullying involved.
No Bullsh*t Fiscally Responsible Stewardship.
I think that’s what you want.
And that basic premise can, and will be, applied to all aspects of of your government.
You want War? Can we afford it? Probably not. But organized and well publicized Training Wars are cheap, and we can find a way to make them fun.
You want Peace? Just a thought, but is it possible, without so much money tied up in MPPs? edit:
Let’s see if we can find another way to assure peace and mutual respect and support with at least some of our allies. Only $10k per? Sounds like a $10k savings to me, wherever it can be found.
Those two, there.. War and Peace.. having them both while affording them both.. obviously this will take a bit more creative thinking that what we’ve had thus far. I say we take a shot at it.
You want actual transparency and regular communication from leadership? Done.
You want to feel like your elected and appointed officials are listening to you, and doing as well as possible to run this country as YOU see fit? No sh*t, man.. This will happen.
Just these applied principles, above.. will work wonders toward rebuilding the parts of America that’s in the most dire need-- your faith in your own country, which becomes your morale, which becomes your resolve, which becomes your willingness to go the extra mile because you see your government walking that road beside you every step of the way..
That’s what I want to do as your President.
That’s why you want me to be your President.
Because.. this sh*t can be done, and will be done.
This country moves forward, not on your overtaxed backs, but as a labor joined by every one of us-- especially me and everyone else who works for you.
Thank you for your consideration
We have just a couple days to gather Party Endorsements.
I’ll take any I can-- apparently a long list of small Party endorsements works as well as a short list of Top Fives.. so push them buttons, Small Party Presidents, because I’m probably the only guy running who will actually listen and take you seriously.
We have just a couple days to gather general support.
This is accomplished by some fast media work.. I hope to see a few good keystrokes in my favor, I hope to be worth that much of your hope for our future.
Of course.. now that The Old Man is all riled up.. I'll have a few more things to
I'm thinking tomorrow would be a good day to discuss our broken Immigration Policy.
Maybe by Tuesday I can put together a Cabinet, if y’all seem serious about having me on as your President.
For all this massive wall of text… my platform is really simple, so here's your tl;dr:
No Bullsh*t Fiscally Responsible Stewardship.
Willingness to walk that mile and share the load, and be fair and square with you.
It just can’t be that hard. I don’t know why we’ve been jerked around so, and I definitely don’t know why we’ve tolerated it, but when Custer’s in the Big Job.. all that crap is over, man.

I’ve actually seen some Experts say that anyone who doesn’t work in a commune, or who Works-As-Manager, is stupid.
Are you stupid?
I think re-electing leadership who thinks you’re stupid might be.
If everyone worked in a commune for $1 then the average wage would be $1 and the WAM tax (with work tax @25😵 would be 0.25 - lets see them fund the reserves on that 🙂
"them" is going to be "us"-- that's me and you and every other worker and taxpayer. "them" are not going to be doing Business As Usual anymore-- "we" are going to do this whole thing differently.
I understand, we haven't seen basic common sense, and definitely haven't seen responsible economic stewardship, in some time.. but WE are going to give those bizarre concepts a try.
Are you sure you can make it in the top5 presidential candidates? WTP, SFP and BSP don't have a candidate yet so you can be out of top5.
confidence, brother.. confidence.
"I’ve actually seen some Experts say that anyone who doesn’t work in a commune, or who Works-As-Manager, is stupid." Citation needed on the WaM part. WaMing is still profitable, and I do WaM. I also do not work for a commune and pay my taxes.
you almost had my support until you said who you wanted as VP. He spent that reserve like it was going out of style while he was CP and has been part of the problem for a long time now. You can't fix the problem by including the problem. Sorry, but just can't do it man!
But you are very right about people leaving, Blacksheep has been considering it and plan on moving as a group if the time comes. Call us traitor or whatever the hell anyone wants but we have tried for 2 years to play nice and get disrespectful crap from all other groups in return. We're done struggling just to play this game in our home country that has leaders who clearly do not want us in the country so makes sense to move to somewhere that does want us and actually cares about its player base.
To all those who think us players are stupid, riddle me this. How do you think 1 person playing 25% is worth more than 4 paying 10%? Yep, we're the stupid ones!
Gnilraps will be my VP, not me as his.
the biggest expense out of the Reserves has traditionally been in Presidential and SCI directed COs. I believe the Reserves are exactly that-- an Emergency War Fund, not the Big Sack o'Cash to pay for COs.
we're all going to have to look at how money is got, and how it's spent, differently.
and Gnilraps is on board with me in this.
Anyone who ends up in the CP chair during a war is faced with the same problem. Spend or lose.
I spent.
So I am in favor of having a big war chest so that we can win wars.
The real question, the one Custer is confronting, is how QUICKLY do we need to increase the war chest.
Oh no, is December all over again.
I want more October 🙁
America's never had a Custer Presidency. This will be February, for the first time.
Look here you hash toking, blue haired, manboy; there is nothing good about anything you have ever done. Bury your head in the sand and quit trolling productive members of my community.
lol nothing but love fam chill
Well the recent tank skin event did not help but is was manageable, just it wasn't at all managed.
With the gold beast fighting for the new skin, eUSA COs put up, millions were just sucked treasury very quickly. Damage was being delivered at such great rates anyhow because of the event. This wasn't out of patriotism but rather the wanting of a new skin.
If eUSA would have just waited another 36 - 24 hours to start the COs after the contest had passed the first few days, yes we would have lost a few more regions, but the COs would have then been 1) more effective. Once everyone got their skin and played with it a bit, they would have gone into a more reduced output for the remainder of the week having already spent their investment in the skin and 2) with less damage being thrown around, a CO would have been more welcome and more effective at actually directing damage to make a difference.
One of eUSA great advantages in the game is the number of states we have. We could have used this a little more to time the COs to maximize their effect and to minimize the outlay.
Other than that the fact that eUSA took on our opponents, one at a time in order, was actually a good response.
DON'T FORGET GREECE. MPP or not, Greece help tremendously by attacking Bulgaria in this recent war. While North America seems to be about sorted out in this conflict, we need to continue to assist Greece with Bulgaria in Europe now.
Greece and other allies rocked our defense.. happens a lot more than people realize.
that "eUSA took on our opponents, one at a time in order, was actually a good response," is absolutely true. but as you also illustrated, shortsighted quick spending failed to take advantage of Plato's tank skin thing, and ultimately turned it into a very short, very expensive and especially not very fun war. so the whole point of egging them on was lost.
I agree with you on a lot of things, but the vast majority of the spending took place before the event started.
understood. it won't work like that anymore.
as stated above, to Roper, "I believe the Reserves are exactly that-- an Emergency War Fund, not the Big Sack o'Cash to pay for COs."
jadiv speeks wisdom here.
Ten MPPs is 100k.
Please learn math. You are better than this article. I am disappointed.
thank you. you're right-- it's not the best place to look for massive savings.
but there must be some fat to trim, even a little meat we can live without, and it all adds up.
austerity is gonna happen in every corner of how we make and spend money, not just "Max Tax fixes everything."
[removed]
What IS meant is that in your article you claimed that "10 MPPs is 1Million dollars". That's wrong. It's 100k. Each MPP is only 10k.
I'll fix it.. just a sec.
Israel.. really..? simple bad math is "lies"??
is that how we're going to do this?
I only mentioned lies, because you didn't edit your article after you responded to my comment. I will remove it.
But really, you're better than this. You've been around for too long, and involved in far too many cabinets to be writing stuff like this. You know better.
gosh, bro.. I've been jamming between this and Elanaconda's article constantly since I published this one and read that one. I did finally get in there and edit my math error sentence.. which actually reads better now, thank you.
I've worked for you, Israel, and we've worked together. you know this is my style. I do well to be a little less tin foil hatty than Franklin, but I've always swung hard for left field.
if there's been any time in the eight years i've been around that could be called "my time," this is it. I think America's ready for a hardass in the White House, and i don't think either of the two major candidates can afford to risk all they've worked for within their respective circles.. I don't have a circle. I have nothing to lose by offending everyone.
Well said Comrade. o/
holy shit this is a long article. who reads these? I mean, really?
there's a tl;dr there somewhere... um...
Your proposal of this max tax makes it so I'd never want to vote for you. I hope you lose your race against whoever opposes you.
its already max tax , so whats the difference. Im just waiting on the inevitable sieve of people who get fed up with this shit and leave to another country, got my popcorn ready.
I did it because we were convinced that there was an imminent invasion that would lose region after region.. that we needed to shore up the War Chest, and we'd soon be knocking it down to 1%..
kinda like the "weapons of mass destruction" pitch.
I, and other otherwise anti-tax Congressmen, got snookered.
THAT's why I'm so pissed.
and I appreciate that you are, too.
are you maybe thinking that either of the other two candidates will be lobbying Congress to dump the Max Tax, or even consider putting the government on an austerity plan of sharp spending cuts?
I can appreciate your reply. My political party, the black sheep, we're pretty much the only group who collectively and nearly entirely voted against max taxes as that's what our party is about. While I appreciate the perceived crisis that was inevitably your cause, we have been over taxed by the likes of the feds and uswp for a long time. Last thing we needed was anyone to give dmj and the lemmings reason to raise them further.
Be prepared for the exodus, it has started. All this is doing is giving communes more steam and causing great, loyal, formerly loyal eUS citizens the proverbial straw that broke the camels back as the are finally getting over the threat of the impending blacklist.
War is fun. We've sank, we swim. If any of the games great powers want to wipe us they can regardless of our reserves. COs will only get us so far. The people that will or would dig deep to put damage on the board willingly should be our countries concern, not the world wide CO mercs.
just one little phrase... "...the perceived crisis that was inevitably your cause..."
I thought you may have misspoken and meant, "inadvertently," but that doesn't work, either. I didn't CAUSE this at all. I got led along a path of fear, like so many other Congressmen, to promote and support a Tax Hike that the Experts knew damn well had nothing to do with the War.
dmjohnston Day 2,994, 16:24 (at Elanaconda's article)
It was never about the wipe. It's about refilling our reserve at a faster rate than we would have otherwise.
...
people who leave now are missing an opportunity to fix this, and set a new precedent for how it will be moving forward.
What makes you think that the PotUS has any control over tax policy? It doesn't. Congress votes on every tax proposal. The PotUS has no power in a tax debate except to be one more voice in the discussion. You actually would have more ability to enact a "Reasonable tax policy" in your current position as a congressman than you would as President.
But that logic doesn't help Custer's political goals.
really, Israel.. political goals? really? if I had political goals don't you think I'd have pursued them seriously sometime in the almost eight years I've been around?
I'm just one more fed up guy.. obviously not very politically savvy.. but for whom One. More. Month. of this nonsense continuing as it has Just. Will. Not. Stand.
I'll ask you both, and please remember that I do know and respect and have worked with you both.. if you have the opportunity to try some totally different sh*t that may or may not work.. and be able to attach yourself to the success or deny culpability in its failure..
would you join me in trying some totally different sh*t, or will you work against me and.. I guess we'll see.. a few other regular working stiffs who're ready for about anything but more of the same.
do you really think the way things are, the path we're on, is working?
because, man.. and I do mean every man (and, obviously, woman), if how this is going is how y'all like it, do not support me in trying to anything any different that how it is now.
because this way is working jusssssst fine.
Evry.. obviously the President can only lobby Congress.. with a convincing voice and his own set of Experts with math and projections and pictures with circles and arrows.. uh-duh!
but a President also has a wider audience, and a broader responsibility to that audience-- the whole "American people" thing.. remember them? they're the ones who are going to elect the NEXT batch of Congressmen.. and when they see THIS Congress stonewalling a President who's doing his level best to work for them, we'll see a whole different political landscape next month.
I feel like that used to work that way in the old days when people voted for individual congressmen, not in the current party-based voting system. Which is no one's specific fault, but, a mere fact of the current game mechanics.
IF.. big "if"... the citizens care so much, if they really care about doing something, and it's not all a lot of hot air.. then there will be a huge amount of media in the next month, of both people complaining and prospective Congressmen promising.
I am under the crazy notion that people are so fed up they're not just blowing smoke. I see them leaving the country as an act of desperation, which is a bad answer to the problem. a better answer would be to DO what the game, and even the meta game, are set up to do-- elect actually representative people who will run this country like you want it done.
THIS IS YOUR WAKE UP CALL, AMERICA.. hell, you've already hit the Snooze button so many times it's finally dawning on you that IT'S LATE. IT'S REALLY REALLY LATE.
Why are you just trying to put words in his mouth? You know that isn't what he said.
I'm sorry I couldn't make us lose more core regions for fun.
I refer you to jadiv's comment, above.
and, yes.. to very much simplify things.. you'd have had a better response to the expenditure of funds, as well as the rallying of morale, had the war gone anything like as was depicted when we were sold on it.
this victory is now a political disaster.
So it would have been better to spend and fail in doing so? jadiv's thought process implies that BG and FYROM tanks would have burned their funds regardless of whether or not we spent. They would have simply withheld EBs and boosters rather than spent them, and would have just used food fights. I could have also spent less on the COs, and made them less effective in turning the tide of battles, and it would have been a huge waste of the money.
I'm sorry I depicted the war being harder than it turned out to be. I had thought that FYROM and BG would have been able to keep pace rather than burning out in two days. If anything, this victory proves that USA can win wars quickly and outlast other nations rather than having our cores endangered needlessly.
Also, to sacrifice more cores would have been a mistake. It would have implied that we were losing and invited others to jump into the attack. We wouldn't have beaten FYROM without spending, so they would have been attacking cores as well.
Again, I'm sorry I couldn't deliver on handing a losing war to my successor.
yes.. you are right. damn weak enemies spoiled our perfectly good war.
I guess it is easier to armchair anything after the fact. decicive action on your part probably did save us a bunch of money and international standing.
here's what really wrecks your victory:
dmjohnston Day 2,994, 16:24 (at Elanaconda's article)
It was never about the wipe. It's about refilling our reserve at a faster rate than we would have otherwise.
this puts a whole bad light on everything.
but even this is done and done. we're on to what's next.
hahahah still going on with the two days burnout.. Greece is what saved you. This is it. Nothing else.
I have so much fun reading US press those days xD
I actually hadn't considered jadiv's points and, in retrospect jadiv is probably right. We probably could have sacrificed a few cores temporarily and saved several millions.
water under the bridge.
it would have drawn things out... but again in retrospect that probably wouldn't have been a horrible thing.
