#65 Alliances and MPPs

Day 1,298, 16:34 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Gambit8

Hello Readers!

I'd like to say thanks to my loyal readers 🙂 Yesterday I reached 500 subscribers which is pretty darn amazing 😃 So thanks guyz!!

Today is going to be a different sort of article than the whole news thing. I've had a few readers ask me the different types of alliances and what not and they aren't really clued up on the game mechanics at the moment. Then I got a request to write an entire article about the different alliances and all that sort of stuff.
So I thought 'why not?'. This newspaper is for the benefit of the people so they understand what's going on in the eWorld.

What is a MPP?

An MPP means 'Mutual Protection Pact'. A MPP lasts 30 days however, you can sign two, making it last two months, so time can be extended. What an MPP does is allow other countries to fight in your battles, aside from resistance wars. Which is why we are able to fight in places like France and Serbia, because we have an MPP with them.
Now this all seems all well and good, but an MPP costs 10,000 local currency, which in other terms is 100 gold I believe and since an MPP lasts a month, you need to have the monthly income to sustain the amount of MPPs you want; this is why countries like Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Singapore all have a small amount of MPPs, because they have a low income. This is why they have to choose their allies well to get maximum benefit.

An MPP also shows a relationship between two countries. Countries such as Japan aren't exactly the largest country in the eWorld, but they are loyal and renewing this relationship is good in times of war and what not. With a strong relationships it's more likely a country will prioritise you in times of war. Like the UK are doing to France at the moment.

The Strasbourg Treaty
The Strasbourg Treaty was made by France, Germany and the United Kingdom to show a strong relationship. Not only this, the treaty also said that no matter what happens, neither country must do harm to each other intentionally. This includes fighting against them in times of war, whether it be a full-scale war or fighting against them via MPPs. This also means no PTOing of the other country either.
The treaty also states neither country must intervene in internal or external affairs.
An example of an external affair would be lets say hypothetically France invaded Belgium and Germany who was allied with Belgium disagreed with this move, Germany could not then intervene and fight for Belgium. So in other words if they don't agree with it then they must just step aside.
An example of an internal affair would be for a proper example UK became neutral, and left Terra alliance. France, who are also Terra can't then get in a hissy fit over it as it's the UK's decision.

Costs of MPPs will be split 50/50, no matter what happens.
Each country must take part in defending another's country whether it be a PTO threat or a full war.
This is also an opportunity to say thank you to all the French that helped in the ATO effort.

All countries must remain trading, in other words, you must no propose a trading embargo against another ones country.
Each country must share intelligence that is a matter of security. So for example France knew Germany were getting attacked by the ONE alliance but Germany had no knowledge of this then France must share this information with Germany.

Breaking these rules could lead to up to a 250g fine. The fine varies depending on the seriousness of the rule-breaking.

Recently, Portugal have entered the Strasbourg Treaty, joining the UK, France and Germany, making it a four-way pact.

PTOs and ATOs
A PTO simply means Political Take Over. A political take over can be achieved by getting citizenship to another country and then joining a political party and being granted congress. Once in congress they'll let in even more people from the same country of their origin, once in more and more will be trying to get into congress letting in even more into the country. Once enough are in they would have enough people to create a political movement and attempt to get into the presidents seat.
An example of a PTO would be Cyprus. It started off as a Greek state but once the Turks began to grow in number they gained enough people in the country to not only get a president in power but also have two parties dedicated to the political take-over movement. This group of people call themselves iNCi.

iNCi's first PTO attempt was actually in USA, many Turks went over to the US and began to gain many many people. Now most articles are printed in both Turkish and English in the USA now, including their MoD newspapers. iNCi have tried a few times to get into the president's seat but no attempt has been successful as of yet, however they are growing and have large influence within the country.

iNCi also own a few military units within the US and has major influence over which way America's battle turns, for example, they let return many Mexican region back to their original owners in order to sabotage the US.

An ATO is short for an Anti-Take Over. Basically, a party may only have up to two people put up for candidacy within a region during congress elections therefore people become what is known as blockers. Basically they fill up these positions in congress and the party president may choose who they want to run. However if only lets say 3 people are running in 2 region and 2 of them were PTOers then the party president could no stop them from running, however if there were blockers they'd put forward another three people and since only 4 can run, the party president will choose who they want to run for congress therefore not picking the two known PTOers.

Phoenix

Almost certainly the strongest alliance ever created on eRepublik. The alliance Phoenix was created December 2009 and was disbanded March this year.
Member countries:
United Kingdom
Germany
France
Serbia
Argentina
Brazil
Bulgaria
Estonia
Hungary
Indonesia
Iran
Latvia
Lithuania
Netherlands
Portugal
Russia
Slovenia
Turkey

As you can see, quite the list. Phoenix's economy was one of the best in the game. Phoenix's main enemy EDEN and the war lasted for some years until the final end in which countries began breaking off from the alliance due to them being wiped all the time or just general unhappiness within the alliance. Many later joined EDEN.

EDEN

EDEN was not an official alliance for some time due to them not actually having a proper treaty, but after taking the whole of North America they then drew up a treaty creating the alliance.
Member countries:
Australia
Bosnia and Herzegovina
Bulgaria
Canada
China
Croatia
Finland
Greece
Ireland
Italy
Norway
Romania
Ukraine

EDEN means 'Erepublik Defence and Economic Network. EDEN is an alliance that claims to be purely defensive and has fights for their 'brotherhood'. EDEN is almost entirely a military alliance due to threatening nations always around, such as Phoenix and ONE alliance nations.

Terra
Terra is the alliance that largely consists of the remanents of Phoenix.
It member countries being:
Argentina
Brazil
Canada
Chile
France
Germany
Japan
Portugal
Russia
USA

Terra and EDEN have had strong relationships, as to defeat a common enemy, the ONE alliance. The EDEN/Terra co-operation got off to a rocky start as EDEN nation, China declared war on Japan, a member of Terra, which led Terra countries to question their allegiance. Countries like UK were wanting to declare war on Ireland and after China's act they nearly followed suit to declare war on a Terra nation (The UK was one of the first to join Terra). The UK left Terra as we found that the alliance was just smaller countries fighting for the much larger countries such as Brazil and the US. Another reason was that our whole alliance war pretty much a puppet of EDEN, one much larger than Terra, which was also the same. Smaller countries within EDEN fighting for their allies, Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania and Greece all the time.

After the UK left, Terra began to show their true colours. USA and Brazil sought revenge for the UK leaving and proposed Ireland as their MPP, and enemy of the United Kingdom, yet not even days before the UK had been fighting for Brazil to undo the damage done by Poland, the same story that in USA too.
The UKs leaving was not an act of aggression however due to Terra's way of handling it, the UK felt rather betrayed.
Another reason for the UK leaving was because of their strong ties with Turkey, Serbia and Macedonia, who were either officially or affiliated with the ONE alliance, the enemy of EDEN/Terra

As of now citizens are crying for Germany, Argentina and France to leave Terra.
Argentina are the only ones to make their step to neutrality. They have rejected an MPP with EDEN overlord, Bulgaria and have proposed an MPP with fellow neutral and former Terra country, United Kingdom.

ONE
Formally known as NWO (New World Order) became one of the strongest alliances instantaneously as supreme countries such as Poland, Serbia, Spain and Hungary founded the alliance.
ONE (Order of New eWorld) is more exclusive than the other alliances as they only accept few into their alliances.
Official members consist of:
Spain
Serbia
Hungary
Macedonia
Sweden
Poland

Affiliated Members consist of:
Indonesia
Turkey
Iran
Slovenia
Slovakia
Mexico
Peru
New Zealand
Venezuela
Montenegro

ONE, like Terra, consists of former Phoenix nations as well as countries that left EDEN.
ONE is the most powerful alliance in the eWorld, and even more so in compared to their small size.

ONE's enemy are both EDEN and Terra. ONE also caused World War V, this is because Poland attacked Germany, which was a Terra nation and due to allies in Terra, they declared war and because of the ONE threat, EDEN then joined forces with Terra to combat a common threat, causing the world to fall into chaos.

ONE has been seen mainly as the enemy by most of the world, purely down to the fact that they are the most powerful and the fact many countries oppose them. However, generally ONE are much nicer than other countries as they value their relationships a lot more which abolishes any sort of heirachy within the alliance like you see in Terra/EDEN, Bulgaria and Croatia at the top with Bosnia and Ukraine near the bottom. This is why ONE is very exclusive as a built relationship is needed to join the alliance.
Their invasions are not down to greed, merely to feed their own needs of their growing populations, or sometimes for something to do. However, nowadays, it's for defence of themselves or their fellow allies, such as Poland and Hungary hopping over to the USA to aid Spain in their American invasion.
However, ONE has been criticised in the way they deal with things. They war a hell of a lot and they've destroyed countries through PTOing and constant wars. See, Singapore and Germany. However, as much as I hate to see countries reduced to nothing, especially that of Germany, at least they get the job done.

The one thing that people do not like about ONE is the fact they have not shown any form of Peace. Terra and EDEN both show in their policies that they would like peace between their nations and they are almost purely defensive alliances, whereas on the other hand ONE are much more attackive and come across as a authoritarian sort of alliance, I kind of force that would be the equivalent of The Empire in Star Wars. Serbia being the Emperor and Poland being Darth Vader 😃

ONE are definitely not an alliance to mess with as they look to be leading WWV by a heck of a lot.

ABC

After a long while of war within the Baltic nations there were a group that formed of unlikely allies. Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia formed an alliance called ABC - Alliance of Baltic Countries. Latvia and Estonia have a history of conflict and even within the alliance now there are some who still oppose each other. However this alliance was one of absolute commitment with each other and a strong relationship has been a key to their success. Alone they couldn't stand a chance to their neighbours such as Ukraine, Russia, Poland and Sweden, but together they could take on many countries within the eWorld. Considering they only formed at the very end of March this year they've still made a huge impact and shown their authority.
Members:
Estonia
Latvia
Lithuania
Russia was also considered into the ABC alliance but instead Russia decided to make Estonia feel small, be ignorant of Latvia and sided with the PTOers of Lithuania, and for that ABC struck back, made their mark and stated their authority.

Lithuania have had a successful babyboom and many more are probably on the way for the Baltic nations as they are a quickly growing alliance.

Luna

An alliance formed at the start of April this year. It was created to do everything that the alliance Sol did not, and that was to create a successful neutral alliance.
Members:
Uruguay
Philippines
Austria
Malaysia
Israel
India
Switzerland

Luna have been the target of jokes as people do not consider them a real alliance and is just a place where countries go that cannot get into any stronger alliances. Which technically they aren't an alliance, they are just a group of nations that declare themselves neutral and to support themselves, but Luna have shown their success by getting Malaysia back on the map almost instantaneously after an Indonesian war. Now that may have been luck or a one-off, but they did the exact same thing with Philippines too and have also got Israel back on the map on several occasions after Cypriot attacks, but since Cyprus are much better at retaining, Israel haven't been back on the map as long as their comrades.
