Not Another Hospital Article

Day 792, 17:42 Published in USA USA by Desertfalcon

As anyone who has read the media recently has noticed, there is once again a large debate over the placement of hospitals. While the topic has always been a source of debate it seems to be gaining a lot more attention now that player retention has become a hot issue. Right now the debate is over whether or not to build Q2 hospitals in every state, advocates of the new plan claim it will increase player retention in non fortress states while the opposition claims it will cost too much and weaken the amount of damage done by the country. In this article I will examine each argument and present my opinion. First we will start off by looking at the case for Q2 hospitals.

The Q2 Hospital Plan

Pro

*Will allow those who live in "wasteland" regions to get two more fights in
*May increase player retention in wasteland regions
*Active players will still move to fortress regions for the extra fights

Con

*The plan will cost quite a bit of gold
*Q2 hospitals provide three less fights then Q5 hospitals
*Will dilute the power of the fortress states
*People will still need to move to fortress states
*Hospitals would take time to produce

The Fortress Plan

Pro

*Provides Americans with several Q5 hospitals which allows for the U.S. to greatly increase the damage done over Q2
*Makes the fortress regions expensive to attack and raises the wall.

Con

*Cost of moving people into fortress regions
*U.S. likely won't be Alamoed again (as long as we don't try to invade all our neighbors like we did before) so the large walls in CA and FL don't mean much
*Puts all our eggs in one basket pretty much (If Florida were to fall we'd be substantially weakened)

Bottom line: Both plans present large costs however The Fortress plan is much cheaper since it doesn't require the construction of any new hospitals and people would still need to purchase moving tickets in the Q2 plan to get the most out of their fights. The only real advantage the Q2 plan has over the fortress plan is that it might increase retention rates but really, how many people will be convinced to stay by a Q2 hospital? Do we really want to keep people who would be willing to reduce the amount of damage they could do just because they want to stay in their home state anyways?

In my opinion we would be better off expanding the fortress plan by building Q5s in Texas and New York, both these states are high population regions. We would still be able to keep the high walls in other regions by stationing our military in those regions and we would gain the ability to build up two other regions should Texas or New York come under attack. I don't expect this to be done any time soon but I think it would be best to put Q5s in these states later on down the road.

I'd kind of like to have a debate here in the comments and if I see some good arguments in the comments I may give you a mention up here.
