Today, and Some Thoughts

Day 1,623, 23:55 Published in Canada Canada by ultimate523

Good day to all my fellow eRepublikans. As some of you may already know, today, May 1st, is International Worker's Day, better known by some as May Day.

It's been celebrated as a day for the workers of the world, which in reality, is a large majority of us. Most of us are part of the majority who are not able to fly to a golf course on a helicopter, and be paid millions of dollars a year for it.

Iain Keers has also written an article about it that I suggest reading. If you agree with not fighting you can get some tanks. Personally, I likely will still fight, and so I haven't asked for them. But I feel that some sort of move forward against the admins is a very wise move. We must stand up when we're unhappy, not just accept defeat. They haven't brought back the forums, fixed the markets, or anything along those lines. Part of me wonders if dropping the market prices was intentional.

Unlike most countries, we here in Canada have Labour Day, put there to avoid protests over the historical meaning of today, but of course, anyone with enough common sense knows listening to the government about everything is a very bad move. The same, of course, goes for eRepublik, and I'm a congressman here saying that. No one seems to care about keeping the people updated on things, so I suppose I'll have to do it right now.

For those wondering about why we haven't gone to war, it's mainly because we've been smart/dumb(depending on your view) enough to be almost completely surrounded by allies. Regardless, we may still be able to take some of the UK soon. My suggestion was some form of training war with them mainly to help us get medals. Of course, if the Spanish dominate Portugal enough that may give us an opportunity to go for them. Time will tell.

One of the biggest fears by congress was us getting wiped, and I know those complaining about not getting the True Patriot medal will likely be the same ones complaining that we got wiped. Personally, I'm fine with us losing some land. We can get a few Resistance Hero medals that way, and resistance wars count toward the True Patriot medal, so that's all okay too.

Though part of me wonders if eCanada even should have a congress sometimes with some of the people who are voted in. Code-Y left something like two days after being elected, and several others I don't even need to bother mentioning if you follow anything of what's happening, and has happened in eCanada.

Another thing happening in congress that seems like we won't be continuing with is talk of referendums. It's something I supported basically since the idea first came up, but now due to apathy, and opposition, it seems like people don't care to continue with it. I want people to be able to make their voice heard, and I don't want people running for congress just to get one piece of legislation in.

Though I have also wondered how useful having referendums will actually be. Most don't even seem to care about the congressmen they vote in, so why would they care about anything else? And if they did, should we really expect everyone to know enough about an issue to make a decision from it when even the top people don't always know everything? It'll likely be forgotten soon enough.

Of course, I don't mean to discourage a single person from taking a stand here. If you truly believe in something, then work to make it happen. To be completely honest, you're likely better off putting that effort into helping a charity, or something more honourable in reality.

Yes, like this.

But if humanity in the flesh isn't for you, you can always do something on the internet. Again, to be completely honest, you're likely better off finding a political activist forum, or something along those lines, but if actually learning about various types of governments isn't for you, well, you've still got eRepublik.

I know, I'm so optimistic about this game, aren't I? I've been giving serious consideration to quitting it. I'll do what I can for the rest of this month since I got elected to congress, and unlike some others, I feel a certain sense of duty when I commit myself to something.

As the saying goes: "Be the change that you wish to see in the world." - Mahatma Gandhi

Quotes are always nice, aren't they? Gandhi's got several good ones, but I won't flood you all with them.

Just think about all that, I suppose. I don't know if that would be considered a rant, or what, but this is what you all get when I feel like writing at 1 AM.

Have a nice day, and work for what you believe in,
