What does TRS stand for?

Earlier this year TRS concluded a poll on it’s new name. Formerly The Real Spamicans, an intervention from Hormel foods caused us to seek a new title. Our members decided upon The Revolutionary Society, which nicely summarises what we want to achieve!

During the rename-athon tonnes of suggestions for what TRS might stand for were suggested. So having settled on The Revolutionary Society, what else do we stand for?

TRS stands for activity, and so it wants to role model Citizen and Congressional participation in our Politics. Political inertia is not only holding the eUK back but also causing it to bleed players overtime. As such the cost to this inertia can be counted in GDP, VAT and damage. Media and Politics provide other ways for players to enjoy eRep, so they must all be kept healthy, dynamic and relevant.

TRS stands for challenging the status quo. It is a poor reflection on the state of things when this has been seen as a transgression (sometimes just by daring to run CP candidates, or even discussing donations!). We acknowledge that there’s a strong preference in other parties to keep everything the same until eRep ends (supposedly everything is easier that way!) but we think constructive challenge and genuine political dynamism can deliver for all members of our community.

TRS stands for strategic thinking. Our players are active and committed to the eUK, as writers, thinkers, fighters, graphic designers, comedians, poets and so on. We don’t consider the sum of all contributions to be damage and medals. We want to see all eRep’s Modules come to life, and we want to see the eUK become THE destination for players from across the globe. Breaking free from the mould of complacency is the first step to achieving this revolution and growing.

The foundations of our thinking can be summarised as:

- eRep and the eUK are in a period of long term decline.
- This can be tackled. By being a fun and interesting place for players.
- Active Media and Politics are the main ways to achieve this, and have made a difference over the last twelve months.
- Governance by complacency therefore must end - ‘it was OK in 2021’ is not a reason to do anything.

Instead, we need to embrace political dynamism. This means scrutinising the justification, cost and relevance of policies, especially those which haven’t materially changed in years. It also means having a responsible and responsive Congress and Government, and making space for new voices to be heard. This is central to our Mission Statement.

Achieving all these things would make the eUK more interesting to more players. Fewer joiners will leave, players from overseas will be attracted to the eUK, and we will grow. This will do more for the eUK’s damage and economy then funding a chumocracy ever will. We need to stop being a nation where the Government needs seven months to make a decision and start being a nation with a creative political body. We need to free ourselves from crippling inertia and become a test bed for good statesmanship by exploring what works in 2024 rather than being stuck in 2020.

So why The Revolutionary Society? Or to put it differently, What is revolutionary about that? The answer is - everything! The eUK is not alone in being crippled by steady decline and an entrenched status quo - but it is one of a shrinking number of nations with a large party who want to do something about it! If you want to support the growth and dynamism of the eUK, then join the revolution!
