Ideas to Improve Military Units
HebronGazelle
The admins have added new rules about Captains no longer being voted in. They have also mentioned that military units will play a more important role in eRepublik in the future, so I wrote this article to give some of my ideas about how to improve military units.
Specific Combat Regiments
This is one of my ideas to add a little bit more tactics or usefulness to having separate regiments. Each regiment could have a bonus for fighting in specific types of battles. For example:
"Paratrooper Regiment" - 5% damage bonus when fighting for the country of the military unit during an airstrike.
"Allied Forces Regiment" - 5% damage bonus when fighting for allies of the country of the military unit.
"Homefront Regiment" - 5% damage bonus when defending a region for the country of the military unit.
"Resistance Regiment" - 5% damage bonus when fighting for the resistance side in a resistance war for the country of the military unit.
"Oppression Regiment" - 5% damage bonus when fighting for the controlling side in a resistance war for the country of the military unit.
The damage bonus could be 5%, or 10% to match the natural enemy bonus. I have two ideas on how each regiment decides which bonus they get. Firstly the Captain of the regiment can change it once per 30 days. The second idea is that the Captain can choose which bonus the regiment gets but it takes 7 days to come into effect.
Edit: A couple of people have been mentioning in the comments about there would need to be some sort of limit to how players can move from regiment to regiment, such as once every 7 or 14 days.
Change Regiment Names
This is not exactly a game-changing idea but I know that several military unit name their regiments, so it would be a good idea to have that in the game instead of in our minds. "HMS Awesome" and "SS Destroyer" will be better names for navy regiments than "1st Regiment" and "2nd Regiment".
Military Unit Organisation
Each military unit should be given one organisation. If you don't know what that is, check the bottom of this article. Having one main organisation will help military units with supplying(Q7 producers can send weapons to the organisation and then people can distribute when needed - same with food), it will help with having one newspaper for the military units news and people can make donations to the military unit.
A problem with this might be people creating military units so they can have a personal organisation, which could be solved by military units only receiving their organisation once reaching a certain number of members, such as 50. However, going back below this number will not remove the organisation (maybe do nothing, or maybe temporarily suspend access to the organisation).

Tell me how to improve my ideas, and discuss your own below.
but... DC have only one regiment!
Can we have all the bonuses?
DC owns eRepublik, you can do what you want.
To solve your military organisation abuse I would suggest that it cost gold/money to purchase on a rolling 30 Days. Yeah, I know, not the nicest thing to do, but I reckon the Admins may find that a more attractive option.
Nice idea
Specific Combat Regiments; As you know the commanders & 2nd commanders are now able to move soldiers between regiments directly. It means that each unit can take its heavy fighters and move them according to the battle they need to fight in, to get the bonus. This is a good thing, but then the regiments will only be used for the bonuses and not as groups of united fighters. I think that there should be a limit on the amount of times players can change regiments in a month, lets say maxium of 2-3 moves a month.
Change Regiment Names - Nice addition, I like it.
Military Unit Organisation - The big units can win organizations in MU tournaments, which encourages the members to fight. Giving each unit an organization will make tournaments less fun, unless the admins decide to give gold awars that will be transfered directly to the organizations. Anyway, I think that MU shouldn't get organizations.
I would suggest to limit the combat orders feature (the budget and the maximum value in each division). Money wins games and that should be changed, or at least limited.
Ah, they are all good ideas (cant believe I didn't think about a limit on moving players). Have big units won organisations before? My idea was that units of a certain size get organisations (possibly 50+ or 100+) because units of that size will benefit more, that would still limit it to so many units because only so many people play the game. Many of those units are large but would not be strong enough to come close to winning a competition. Give the people who don't have bottomless credit cards a chance to get something for once.
you cannot create organisations anymore unfortunately.
This is an idea that military units should be given organisations, if you read the article again you might see that.
It"s great this your article and I"ve agree with changeing conceirneing organisation MU-s and changeing the names of regiments, but for instance how can this changes could affect on MU-s which are under MoD and their DO-s had been set by MoD.Also how MoD of any country will know which unit or regimments are under control of MoD and under controll of Commanders who are elected from MoD to run their unit under control of MoD.Also will MoD of any country accept and implement as I know for sure that MoD of eUK isn"t very eager of any chnages.Almoust forgot how admins think that captains of regiment will be selected if there isn"t regiment captain elections.Greeetings from Alex.
'Specific Combat Regiments' is a great idea, but there would need to be tight contraints on how easy it was to switch regiments, or people would be doing it willy-nilly depending on the type of war the MU were fighting in. Perhaps something like 7 days after switching to a new regiment you get their hit bonus.
or just make special combat regiments a daily order option, set by the commander of the regiment.
So you mean as well as selecting which campaign the MU will fight in at the start of the day, each regiment commander would also be selecting a special combat hit bonus as well? That'd work, but more than likely the reg commander would just make a selection dependant on the war they were fighting, which is what every reg commander in every MU would be doing, effectively cancelling out the advantage.
Moving between regiments/hit bonuses should require a transfer time in order to prohibit this kind of exploit.
"Allied Forces Regiment" or some "Allied Fighter" medal would surely be a great idea.
Paratroopers would be better fit as those that fight in RWs/battles abroad, I believe.
As for regiment name change, that is just a cosmetic change, but most certainly wouldn't hurt.
The Org part would be best if implemented like in THE OTHER game where MUs can manage factories, send mass messages to it's members and distribute weapons/food/...
Not bad at all, vote. I like some of these ideas.
Not sure how combat regiments would work in practise but I'd be willing to give it a try.
Maybe orgs should be awarded after a waiting time of 90 days and a specific amount of damage
some great ideas here especially the specific combat regiments bonuses would work great for some of the small nations for starting resistance wars and in making the fighting and bit more tactical in general rather than just clicking fight until the DO is completed.
