30 January 2011, Day 1,167 of the New World. Officers and a handful of soldiers met yesterday to finalize some of the operational aspects of the Israeli Defense Forces reorganization. The conference, to which every active soldier was invited, did not have the turnout I was expecting, and that highlights a couple points for future improvements.

Operations

In my last article about the topic, I alluded to changes in the regimental structure. The military is now composed of five battle-ready platoons. This means that there are fewer Serens than the two-branch military, having shed some inactive members, and more soldiers per officer. The plans for more steel and less brass give us more selectivity and make the position more prestigious. Leading a platoon is a responsibility and sacrifice, and handling just five or six soldiers doesn’t cut it. We hope to develop a sense of community among our units - something they can identify with.

With that in mind, allow me to introduce the new platoons.


5th Platoon, Tavor



Led by DanielMorad, Tavor is primarily for younger soldiers and operates in Hebrew. It is one of the likely assignments for a new trainee.

4th Platoon, Kela David / David’s Sling



Led by VoLuMe9192, David’s Sling is another platoon geared towards younger soldiers. It operates primarily in English. Although our troops in the 4th may not be the strongest yet, they can take down giants.

3rd Platoon, Zealots



The bread-and-butter unit of the Israeli Defense Forces, Zealots burn with a white-hot passion and hunt their enemies without mercy. Upon arriving on the field, their calls of, “My life for Zion!” strike fear into the hearts of their enemies. The Zealots are led by vond2.

2nd Platoon, Samson



This platoon for stronger IDF soldiers is led by Zaib Atsu. They do not complain when weapon distributions are a little light, like when there are not enough Q5 tanks to go around, because they are perfectly adept at killing their enemies with farm equipment.

1st Platoon, Armageddon



This platoon, led by Beagle Boy, the leader of the former Stationary Division, presents some of the best Israel has to offer. These soldiers bring the fury of the apocalyptic end-of-days to wherever in the world they are deployed. When they arrive on the field, you know it’s almost all over.

“And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon. And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done.”

New Recruitment and Training Protocol

Although this is still under construction, it is nearing completion. Soon we will have a new system for taking on new soldiers and, rather than immediately assigning them a platoon, sending them through camp to shape them into better troops. The military will ensure that it is ready for an increase in the nation’s population and an influx of new interest.

The school for new soldiers will be led by matan9010 and PowerToys. A lot of effort has been put forward into making this new program, and it is nearing its final inspection. Another article specifically about training and recruitment will announce when it begins accepting new applicants.


IRC and Forum Activity

Every soldier was invited to attend our meeting, and every officer was required to. Some active and dedicated soldiers did show up, and a few more explained why they could not arrive at the scheduled time, but their numbers were too few. The people who take the time to be active in their military will be its future leaders. The flag officers are working on improving the proportion of the military who find their way onto IRC and the national forums, and this is being incorporated into the new training protocols. Orders for the military as a whole will move to the forums soon, and each soldier should be able to check these at least once per eRepublik day. Distribution of supplies may soon become tied to activity levels, and some deployment opportunities already have been. For example...


Israeli Mission to Philippines - Operation Acid

Colombia declared Philippines as a natural enemy and invaded across the Pacific to Visayas. Philippines was the underdog in this fight because of the natural enemy declaration and Colombia’s MPP with Turkey and Serbia. Philippines, by contrast, had no allies. Colombia manged to secure the first few battles while a scant number of foreign fighters moved to defend Philippines.

So how does this relate to IRC activity? Well the meeting started with an hour left in the penultimate minibattle. Philippines, thanks to the (literally) tireless efforts of their President and more foreign soldiers, was able to even the score. With just three hours left in the battle and approval to deploy already in hand, Israel stepped up its commitment to the defense of the Philippines in Operation Acid.

Because of the distance between Israel and Philippines and the time drawing close to conclusion of the battle, we could only afford to deploy our active soldiers ready for immediate move. The solution was easy: take the people on Internet Relay Chat. Every soldier was given the opportunity to participate in the meeting, and the ones who did were rewarded with intense combat on behalf of our friends. We helped build up a wall in the final minibattle that the Serbians and Turks did not even try to tank down. Want to join in on the fun like these guys did? It’s time to get on IRC.



The Filipino victory when they had no mutual protection pacts is a testament to the power of organized, deployable troops. Soldiers from Ireland, Canada, Israel, and Taiwan made the difference. Operation Acid maintains a small Israeli presence in Palawan, but we are not deploying additional troops at this time.

מבצעים

המחלקה החמישית, "תבור"



המחלקת מובלת על ידי DanielMorad, היא מיועדת בעיקר לחיילים צעירים, ומופעלת בעברית. המחלקה תהיה מיועדת לאימונים, חיילים חדשים יעברו אימונים במחלקה ורק לאחר מכן יועברו למחלקות אחרות.

המחלקה הרביעית, "קלע דוד"



המחלקה מובלת על ידי VoLuMe9192, "קלע דוד" היא מחלקה נוספת שמיועדת לחיילים צעירים. מופעלת בעיקר בעזרת אנגלית. למרות שחיילי המחלקה הרביעית עדיין אינם הכי חזקים, הם בהחלט מסוגלים להוריד ענקים.

המחלקה השלישית, "זילוטס"



מחלקת הלחם והחמאה של הצבא, "זילוטס" מלאת חשק, וצדה את אויביה ללא רחמים. ברגע הגעת חיילי המחלקה לשדה הקרב, הם צועקים "חיי למען ציון!" וזורעים פחד בלבבות האויב. את המחלקה מוביל vond2.

המחלקה השנייה, "שמשון"



המחלקה מורכבת מחיילי הצבא החזקים ביותר, בהנהגתו של Zaib Atsu. הם לא מתלוננים כאשר חלוקת הנשק קטנה מהרגיל, וכאשר אין מספיק אוכל, מכיוון שהם אומנו באופן מושלם להריגת אויביהם בעזרת ציוד חקלאי.

המחלקה הראשונה, "הר מגידו"



המחלקה הזאת, בראשות Beagle Boy, שהנהיג עד לא מזמן את הזרוע הנייחת של הצבא, מציגה חלק מהטוב ביותר שיש לישראל להציג. החיילים מביאים את הזעם של אחרית הימים לכל מקום בעולם בו הם נמצאים. כשהם מגיעים לשדה הקרב, כולם יודעים שזה כמעט נגמר.

פרוטוקול הגיוס והאימונים החדש

למרות שהוא תחת בנייה, אנחנו קרובים לסיום. בקרוב תהיה לנו תוכנית לקבלת חיילים חדשים, ובמקום צירופם מיידית למחלקה, שליחתם דרך מחנה אימונים על מנת ליצור מהם חיילים טובים יותר.

בית הספר לחיילים חדשים ינוהל ע"י matan9010 ו- PowerToys. הרבה מאמץ הושקע בתוכנית הזאת, והיא לקראת בדיקות אחרונות. מאמר שידבר על הנושא של אימונים וגיוס יפורסם כאשר התוכנית תתחיל לקבל משתמשים חדשים.


"IRC" ופעילות בפורום

כל חייל הוזמן להגיע לפגישתינו, וכל קצין חויב. כמה חיילים פעילים ומסורים הגיעו, ועוד כמה הסבירו מדוע אינם יכולים להגיע בזמן שנקבע, אבל מספרם היה נמוך מדי. האנשים שמשקיעים זמן לפעילות בצבא יהיו מנהיגיו העתידיים. הקצינים עובדים על שיפור אחוז אנשי הצבא שמוצאים את דרכם ל IRC (הצ'אט שבו אנו משתמשים) ולפורומים הלאומיים, וזה נעשה בשיתוף עם תוכנית האימונים החדשה. הוראות צבאיות (כמו כל השאר) יועברו לפורומים בקרוב, וכל חייל צריך להיות מסוגל לבדוק אותן לפחות פעם ביום. חלוקת האוכל צפויה בקרוב להיות תלויה ברמת הפעילות של המשתמש, כאשר הזדמנות לפעילות צבאית כבר הייתה תלויה. לדוגמה..


המשימה של ישראל בפיליפינים - מבצע "רעל"

קולומביה הכריזה על פיליפינים כאויבה הטבעי
ופלשה דרך האוקיינוס לאיזור "ויסאיאס" (Visayas). פיליפינים הייתה האנדרדוג בקרב בגלל הכרזתה כאויב טבעי, והבריתות של קולומביה עם טורקיה וסרביה. לפיליפינים, לעומתה, לא היו בריתות. קולומביה הצליחה לנצח את הקרבות הראשונים בזמן שמספר זעום של חיילים זרים עברו על מנת להגן על הפיליפינים.

אז איך כל זה זה קשור לפעילות בצ'אט? בזמן שהפגישה החלה, נשארה כשעה עד לסוף הקרב המכריע. פיליפינים, בעזרת (באופן ספרותי) מאמצים בלתי נלאים של הנשיא שלהם וחיילים זרים נוספים, הצליחה להשוות את התוצאה. כאשר נשארו רק שלוש שעות לקרב, ואישור למעבר בידה, ישראל תרמה את חלקה במבצע "רעל" להגנת הפיליפינים.

בגלל המרחק בין ישראל לפיליפינים, ובגלל הצפיפות בזמן (היינו קרובים לסוף הקרב), יכלנו להרשות לעצמינו לשלוח רק את החיילים הפעילים שלנו, כאלה שמוכנים לתזוזה מיידית. הפיתרון היה פשוט: לקחת את האנשים שהיו בצ'אט. לכל חייל ניתנה ההזדמנות להשתתף בצ'אט, וכל מי שהגיע תוגמל בלחימה אינטנסיבית למען חברינו. עזרנו לבנות את החומה במיני-קרב האחרון, חומה שהטנקים הסרבים והטורקים אפילו לא ניסו להפיל. רוצה להצטרף לכיף שהחבר'ה האלה עשו? הגיע הזמן להצטרף לצ'אט.



הניצחון הפיליפיני בזמן שלא היו להם בריתות הוא עדות לכוחו של צבא מאורגן ונגיש. חיילים מאירלנד, קנדה, ישראל וטאיוואן עשו את ההבדל. מבצע "רעל" עוד לא נגמר, כרגע יש נוכחות מעטה של ישראלים ב"פאלאוואן" (איזור בפיליפינים), אבל אנחנו לא שולחים כוחות נוספים כרגע.
