Mighty Oblige
Jefferson Locke
Oblige at the Bat:
The outlook wasn't brilliant for the eUS ATO that day: The score stood four to two, with but one inning more to play. A straggling few got up to go in deep despair. The rest Clung to the hope which springs eternal in the human breast; They thought, "If only Oblige could but get a whack at that— We'd put up even money now, with Oblige at the bat
All eyes were on him ; everyone applauded when he stepped into #whitehouse; Then while RGR ground the ball into his hip, defiance flashed in Oblige's eye, a sneer curled Oblige's lip. And now the multi-covered sphere came hurtling through the air, And Oblige stood watching it in haughty grandeur. Close by the sturdy CP the PTO unheeded sped— "That ain't my style," said Oblige . "Strike one!" Plato said. From the PPs, there went up a roar, Like the beating of storm-waves on a distant shore; "Troll him! Troll Plato!" shouted someone in the channel; And it's likely they'd have rage quit had not Oblige raised his hand.
With a smile of charity great Oblige's face shone; He stilled the room; he bade the ATO go on; He signaled to RGR , and once more the PTO numbers flew; But Oblige still ignored it and Plato said, "Strike two!" "Fraud!" cried the IRC room, But one scornful look from Oblige and the channel was awed. They saw his face grow stern and cold, they saw his muscles strain, And they knew that Oblige wouldn't let the PTO go by again.
The sneer is gone from Oblige's lip, his teeth are clenched in hate, He pounds with cruel violence his bat upon the plate;
And RGR holds the ball, and now he lets it go, And now the air is shattered by the force of Oblige's blow.
Oh, somewhere in this favoured land the sun is shining bright, The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light; And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout, But there is no joy in the eUSA—mighty Oblige has struck out.
Yesterday, our CP, no...our “savior” Oblige published an article stating that he wanted to increase the two way communication between government and our people. It is rather convenient for him to now want to increase that communication, after that lack of communication cost us a chance at killing the largest PTO threat this country has ever seen. It is rather convenient that Oblige, our “savior” has written just as many campaign articles as Presidential articles. Our CP, our “savior”, talks about communication only when it can get him a second (6th) term.
At least Oblige, showing his leadership, was willing to stand up and write an article admitting that he could have done a better job….since we know that he would have taken all the credit for “saving” us had he come up short.
Oh wait, he didn’t. He didn’t say anything after that. He just buried his head and hoped it went away, much like he did with the ATO to begin with.
In Oblige’s first four terms, many moons ago, they started out well. But towards the end, they were widely recognized as being inconsistent. Oblige was generally seen to be a CP that was aloof at best, non-caring at worst. Last time he was CP, it took him three terms to get to that point.
Now it’s taken him all of two weeks.
If you don’t have the energy to finish your term strongly, then you don’t deserve a second one.
Yours forever in service,
Jefferson Locke

BACON!!!!!
After a look at your last article "Thank you and Vote Vanek!" a suspicion is arising: your political and media activity is non-existing if a certain large mammal is not running for office.
That's actually not true at all, although I can understand how it would appear that way. I took a few months off the game in order to deal with some personal medical things. Before that however, I was doing erep radio five nights a week, writing articles like it was going out of style, was VP, CoS, and head ATO guy for the first 3-4 months of the AFA, and other things.
You get big props for calling Oblige a "large mammal" lol.
This is basically brilliant.
Thank you \o/
Voted for bacon and ham,
Brilliant
Damn this is one of the few articles that actually made me feel like subbing to a paper. So I subbed.
Good work, it was a great read.
Thank you, I appreciate it 🙂
I am amazed at how people think Oblige could have stopped the AFA multies by writing articles. Wake up people, for every AFA multi, you need 4 real people to kick them out of T5. It isn't simple.
Couldn`t agree more the PTO happened because of multi`s and AFA cheating and admin having no effective way to defend against it. Admin would need to improve the game or remove RGR for the PTO to be removed.
I appreciate you reading the article, and I'm sure that you know that I know a good amount about the PTO and how it operates. I have to respectfully disagree with you on this particular instance, as much as I greatly respect your opinion on everything. I think that if the executive had of gotten involved two days before the election, it would have had a much bigger impact and we would have stopped it.
However, to play along, let's say that the CP couldn't have done anything at all to begin with? If that is the case, I still feel that it is better for the CP, the leader of the nation, to take a stand and say "win, lose, or draw, we're going down swinging". I would still, even if I thought that it would have had zero impact, would have liked to believe that Oblige took notice before the day of the locking in of the top five, and actually was engaged enough to try something before then.
I have to agree with JL. Ignoring the situation and thus not discussing ATO plans is what caused this mess in the first place. This should have been a priority 2 years ago. It is the CP's responsibility (even if using a designated writer) to make certain that citizens know the whys and hows of important stuff.
Trust me JL, if I thought Oblige could have done something and didn't, I would be the first to jump at him. That's basically my character; I start quarrels with everyone who I think hurt the country due to selfishness, laziness, or favoring a group over the country. Just ask around to assess how many people dislike me, and whether it is because I argued with them over their actions.
Although I agree that in an ideal world Oblige should have done what you propose, (1) it wouldn't have had any significant impact due to the mechanics of the situation, (2) Oblige has been much more active than most CPs I have seen in the recent past, and I have had PDB access for roughly 3 years, barring half a month summer 2012. The time of a CP is valuable, and it is best spent on where it can provide the maximum returns.
So please don't use his maneuver to shoulder the burden of the failure to your own ends. He isn't the guy to blame, it was hopeless to begin with.
CP has the bully pulpit. For a good number pf peeps, the guy given that fancy mechanical title is the ONLY one they'll pay attention to. I was a noob once, and that went for me anyway, for some months. Early on, just two clicking, etc. There's some substance to the general complaint here imho.

I am mostly in agreement with Kemal's sentiment above. However, this extended metaphor is good enough writing to get me to sub your paper.
I am shocked that you would speak so about Henry's... err, I mean Oblige.
(Possibly the inaction is caused by the stick that's ran up his ass. That kind of control makes you want to dance just exactly the way puppet master says.)
'...I still feel that it is better for the CP, the leader of the nation, to take a stand and say "win, lose, or draw, we're going down swinging'.

Could not agree more with the above, I am big fan of the big stick approach; American citizens need a leader who leads from the front -a soldier can not be ordered to his death, only lead....

Voted because it is soooooooooooooooooooooooooo jawsome to have you back. And back writing again.
Thank you kind sir, it's awesome to be back 😃
Jefferson why do you buy voters? This article is well written and need no support by bought votings. This buying of voters is ruining the media module and i think you really need not to do it. Normally i unsunscribe all newspapers whos owners buy votings. This time i dont because the article is very good, so i let you a chance for this time. Hope you will change that in future.
Because others by votes for crap, forcing those who are gifted with a style to follow suit; Voter Clubs kill the media....
