[MoCH] Empress Day July 2012

Day 1,693, 08:59 Published in Japan Japan by ahava3233

The Presidential Election is now over and the cabinet has been officially set up, so it's time for eJapan to choose a new empress. Due to the limited capabilities of the article commentary system and in order to promote use of the official forums, all nominations must be made on nippon freeforums, although I certainly recommend promotion of candidates through the newspaper system in-game. Feel free to also visit the MoCH on the forums, we have records there of all the previous empresses and also now of the previous annual cultural awards.

Additionally, at least on a trial basis this month, if not permanently as an incentive to encourage more participation in Empress Day and to keep up with in-game inflation, given the Empress Day prize hasn't been raised in at least a year, the MoCH has petitioned the Ministry of Finance and plans to give out much larger prizes for the competition. For example, instead of ¥400, ¥3000 for the person who nominates the winning candidate, and ¥1500 for the citizen who nominates the royal ambassador, instead of ¥200.

Plans for the Month

Given the MoCH calendar on the forums, we have plans to hold events for the Japanese Tanabata (Star) Festival. I'm not going to go over the specifics of the festival in Japan until we are closer to the day we are due to celebrate it, but for a quick parody/laugh on a particular custom from the Tanabata festival from an anime that seems to rather popular in this community from my experience, see here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dl6UGgYZfSs).

DankChronic has mentioned to me that in the past we had a very popular Haiku contest for the Tanabata festival. I will open the floor to expansion on this idea and to other suggestions as of now on the forums, see here (http://nippon.freeforums.org/tanabata-star-festival-ideas-t365.html).

Additionally, this month, I want to try and increase the number of other cultural events and contests to be held in our community. I already have a few ideas for some cultural contests and I am additionally open to any suggestions. Feel free to message me privately or post an idea in the MoCH section on the forum, we may take up your idea and even provide funding for it.

Anyway, regarding the Empress Day Contest, as usual, here are the rules (I have rewritten them for grammar and made some minor changes and disclaimers, please read them over)

RULES:

1 - Anyone with access to the MoCH forum has the right to nominate 1 (one) candidate for empress. All nominees should be female. If you wish to nominate a questionable candidate, please present a public case as to why you believe they are acceptable on the forums to the MoCH before making your nomination. MoCH staff reserve the right to determine what candidates qualify for the competition.

2 - All nominees must be from an Anime Series (OVA/OAV, movies, ONA, tv series), a Japanese Video Game, or a Japanese Manga. Please no Hentai/Porn. Again, even if a character does not fall into this category, MoCH staff still reserve the right to determine what candidates qualify for the competition.

3 - All nominations must at least include a name, image, and the name of the media (series, movie, manga, game, etc) the nominated character appeared in. Please do not post images containing nudity. Additional information regarding your character is welcome. Please bear in mind that any of the information given in your nomination may be placed in any future MoCH publication or posting.

4 - All nominations must be posted in the nomination thread in the national forums here (http://nippon.freeforums.org/empress-day-july-2012-t368.html). A link is additionally posted below under Places You Need to Be.

5 - No previous elected Empresses can be nominated for a 2nd term. However, Royal Ambassadors, or previous runner-ups for empress can be re-nominated for a chance to be Empress. They can continue to be renominated indefinitely, regardless of how many times they have been elected Royal Ambassador unless they are elected Empress even once. Following that election, they are permanently disqualified from running.

6 - Empress Day Nominations begin on the release of this article and will end at the close of eDay 1,694.

7 - Empress Day Voting will begin immediately once the nomination period is over and will end at the close of eDay 1,696.

8 - Campaigns for specific nominations are allowed, but the MoCH will take no part in the campaigns. However, the MoCH will post content from each nomination in a uniform format in a future voting announcement article.

9 - The person who nominates the winning Empress will receive ¥3000 and the remainder of the MoCH's miscellaneous inventory (2 Q5 weapons) for this month. The runner up will receive ¥1500.

10 - The Minister of Culture and History reserves the right to change these rules at any time. The MoCH also reserves the right to disqualify nominations if rules are broken or if any questionable matters arise.
