So a couple of people seem a little annoyed about the liberation I started so while I thought I would clear things up in an article.

Now I have been speaking about starting a liberation for about a month now. To congress, Woldy and government. Unfortunately it took a little longer than I liked, as someone who was going to lend me the 400k needed decided not to.
However, yesterday we did have that money. And about a hour before, I had this conversation with Karacticus.
As you can see, I very clearly told Karacticus, the acting CP, what I was going to do. He could of asked me to wait, or asked that we did hold a referendum, but he didn't, so I went ahead and started it.
"When did congress vote to support a revolution"
They didn't. There is nothing in the new system that says congress have to approve a revolution.

Yes. I proposed a referendum because we needed 400k to start it. However, because the government asked me to delay it (otherwise we would have had one), I got the 400k elsewhere and no longer needed the eUK to provide it.
Therefore, I saw no point in a referendum. Also a referendum coulda took another 4 days, by which time we could have no regions left.

Tell congress to vote down donation laws and don't vote for people you don't trust...

By fighting them? It's highly unlikely to happen anyway.

How do you stop someone taking the money from the orgs now?
If I'm not mistaken, Karacticus has access to about 400-500k if not more he could just take if he wanted.
And the dictatorship system worked only because of Woldy, who can soon no longer continue his role. Then the eUK will have the exact same problem, if not worse, as a dictator has complete control and is much harder to remove.
Plus, you could always, you know, elect someone who you can trust. Don't understand what's so difficult about that.

When ever is there a good time? Looking at the state of the eUK, we'll be having important battles for a few weeks at least.

There is nothing in the new system that says anything about referendums. The only things I have to run are laws proposed to me.

We'll be focusing on Sweden for weeks, if not longer. And me and the guy who started it could, and pretty much did, win the revolution alone. If anyone fought there, there was solely out of their choice, not mine. I cannot control peoples actions.

As I said in the Congress PM, I don't think anyone actually noticed the liberation was going on. You could have picked up a D3 BH for 22k...
Anyone that did see it was probably sensible and saw that their damage was more useful in Scotland.

There's a slight difference in "I'm just waiting for a region" and "I'm just waiting for a region and as soon as I notice that we have I'm going to start the liberation straight away is that ok?"
What I find amusing is the fact that you're looking to justify your actions. If you believe you've done the right thing stop carping on about it and shove some of you're damage into Scotland or do you need to make a profit on that?

If you got paid more than 600k for a liberation medal by some random Romanian, then you have made a profit. Not counting BHs, air hero medals, etc.

I spent 600k. The other guy paid the 400k and in return got the medal.
I made about 30k from BH's and SH's.

Democracy was inevitable, even if a referendum had decided against it the office of dictator was untenable and as highlighted here the whole system has relied on me not being a dick. Which isn't really a system. Given the new circumstances for starting a coup it's only right we revert back. Now we all have to commit to making sure congress is active, that is the eUKs challenge now.
I think the issue is that one person decided that the time was now and did it off their own back without any real communication. While it might be true that he had been talking about it fir months, there appeared to be no interaction in terms of confirming timing.
Isn't Nick the speaker?? If so, he did a poor job if he failed.to chair a discussion on the future upon an anti-dictator war being won.
Admittedly I would of liked to delay it and maybe got an article out before hand annoucing it, and we did rush straight into it. Bu that was solely because of the position we were in. The liberation had to be started soon, the buyer for the medal who paid 400K of it had already waited a month and it looked like Sweden would take the UKs only region.
Either way, it's over now. Because of the determination bonus we were able to win it pretty much on our own so we didn't exactly massively split damage like others have been claiming. That, and it's not like I forced people to fight for the liberation.
I did hold a discussion on democracy and am no longer he speaker anyway.
My goal was to oversee Congress until we returned to a democracy, which we now have.
So basically we crashed out of a dictator set up because you effectively sold a medal to a wealthy player who is a foreign national I believe. The timing for any war should have been on the basis of what is best for the eUK and not for the convenience of a medal hunter....
And The offer was on the table for over a month??? And yet up until recently we were going to have a referendum over funding.... If The offer was on the table then your claim it was about getting approval to use tax funding is nonsense.
While King Woldy was looking to.step back, the public might have wanted to remain under a dictator and was looking to the fun that would be finding a suitable replace. Maybe the public would have voted for democracy anyway, but there really should have been proper discussion before any decision was acted upon.
He paid for almost half the liberation.
If you or the government wanted to decide when it was to happen, then maybe you should of given the 400k instead.
And yes. The way the deal worked was, the 400k goes to our trusted middleman, I start the liberation, hand over the MU and the 400k is passed over. However, I did not have enough to start the liberation (I only had 600k). So I needed to get the remaining 400k from somewhere. I also planned also to give back the 400k to the eUK, but I did not want to promise that in case something went tits up and we didn't get the money.
There was a proper discussion. Like I said above.
Could you clarity as to who or whom decided that a return to democracy was acceptable? Maybe I genuinely missed the debate but it comes across as if you decided it was going to happen but subject to someone stumping up the wrong... "It is your fault for not stumping up the cash" is a weak and lame defence.
I was under the impression that a referendum was to take place to decide if people wanted to keep a dictator, return to democracy or a third way of some sort. The idea that the referendum was actually to determine who pays for it was news to me. I suspect it was news to quite a few people.
Timing wish, the return to democracy idea cropped by around the time some people in congress wanted their 5g every month. But I've not been in congress for a while to know if it is genuinely a coincidence or not.

It would have been good to give the general populace some warning - heck, I didn't get to read the threads yesterday (well, skim them, as so much is dross) so this came as a surprise to me. We said we'd have a referendum, but apparently we had a self-imposed dictator in the person of Nick.

Any claims about treasury thefts completely applied to dictatorship as well except we trusted woldy to not rob anything so nobody bothered. Pretty pointless complaint imo
However you lied about what the referendum actually entailed (people voting for dictatorship would've gotten democracy anyway apparently) and the "The system doesn't say I can't" method was what Michael Ludgate used to try and totally wreck an awful meta so that is a poor excuse to not give people what they were promised and a really awful precedent to be setting.

Yes, Karacticus could have asked you to hold off. You could (and should) have done so anyway, given that at the time you were Speaker of the House and were meant to be politically neutral. As it is, you chose off your own back to ignore Congress' desire to hold a referendum on the issue.

I swear some people like moaning just for the sake of it.
The bottom line is that we all wanted a return to democracy, and we all faffed about for two months saying that we wanted democracy but never getting round to actually doing anything.
Nick went ahead an did it. He sourced all the cash himself, so it didn't cost the country a penny. And while it would have been nice to get a bit of notice, it's MUCH better this way than messing about for another month or two talking about it, arguing about it, deciding when the right time would be (clue - there is no right time) and not actually doing it. Just like we have been doing.
Nick has explained himself. I'm happy to accept the two key reasons why it happened in a hurry - the financial backer had already been waiting a month and we had a region in place, but probably not for long.
So, as Woldy said, now that we've returned to democracy it's time to concentrate on having an active congress and government.
