CXXVI: Yesterday Was Sam Wystan's Birthday

Promenade.

And not a single person cared
It's funny because I think Sam would have had something especially poignant to say about the situation. Detritus like this and this.

I respect Israel and A2 a lot. Israel is good POTUS material in his own right and I'm sad I missed out on A2's especially. And while I respect them both, their choices were embarrassing. All the people who jumped out of Oblige are not doing a disservice to him, they're doing it to us. Oblige has been a decent president, and to pull that sort of stunt just to get votes is ridiculously immature.

They don't deserve respect for bailing out on this community.

There's fault on both sides. No one's lesser. But fighting over which of our great candidates would be the best for this month as been demeaning to both of them. This should have been easy. This was two friends who would have both made great presidents.

I don't think either of them deserve it after this display.

Does it negate the work? No. Will it still be a good month? Yes, probably. Oblige has done great work and he'll continue to do so. Will it ever negate the fact that they stooped down to such a level over a election politicking? Nope.

And we shouldn't forget that fact.

Sam Wystan left because of similar situations. It was a time when people who knew him, and even liked him, basically turned their backs on him for an utterly pointless reason. We all enabled the loss of one of the better writers we had ever had.

And today, we have all watched as we have lost a bit of our dignity.

I voted Publius. Not because I think Vanek or Oblige won't do a good job.

They will.

I voted because, on top of the apathy and on top of the unnecessary competition they've levied on this election, they lost what both made them otherwise reasonable and fulfilling choices.

When you allow yourself to become vested in the heat of things like this, it only does bad. Take it from a guy who almost exclusively did that for the last part of his time in this game.

Vote whoever the hell you want to. They'll both be good presidents who made a mockery of what should have been an easy and friendly election.

America is dying. Only you can save it.
