CP's Foreign Policy Suspect
Wilhelm Gunter
Several days ago, eCanada proposed the United Kingdom as our NE. There was some debate in Congress over the wisdom of this action. The CP of the UK had released an article stating his desire to help out his allies by occupying the Portugese region of the Azores. This would help their allies by taking pressure off of Spain of ensuring the Portugese were constantly occupied (no Congress, etc.). However, to do this, they needed to find a region which bordered the Azores.
And lo and behold, Newfoundland was such a region. So the UK CP said that he had an agreement with us, eCanada, to give them Newfoundland so that they could do this. At the time, I considered this an outright lie. I mean, why would eCanada help an enemy – the eUK – to keep an ally – ePortugal – in constant occupation?! Now, I am not so sure. At least on the surface, consider:
1. eCanada proposes the UK as NE. (with strong support from Foxfire; I voted ‘no’).
2. UK does NOT propose us as NE.
3. UK conquers Newfoundland from us – admittedly, a close, contested battle.
4. The UK attacks the Azores, and conquers it.
5. We RW back Newfoundland rather easily.
6. We ‘No NE’ the UK (currently up for a vote).
This looks BAD. It looks like we acted in tandem with the UK to subjugate the Portugese. Now, I know that circumstances are not always what they appear to be. But with President Foxfire rather silent on what is going on, I just cannot know. Is our nation’s Foreign Policy moving away from our traditional allies towards our historical enemies? More specifically, are we heading towards a Circle of Trust focus?
If this is so, I am adamantly opposed to this. Germany, France, Portugal, Columbia , Sweden – this is where my heart lies, not with the UK, Poland, Serbia, Spain, and the rest of that ilk.
In the upcoming Congressional elections, our Foreign Policy will be a huge issue, at least for me. One of the tenants of the Canadian Progressive Front is to “Ensure eCanada is a reliable and selfless ally”. It doesn’t appear we are doing this – and I’m not happy about it.
If you support our traditional, pro-EDEN allies, then ensure I get elected to Congress on Tuesday.
Vote the Canadian Progressive Front.

The times, they are a changin'
and it's hard to know what is the best route to take. Maybe the informed leaders of eCanada can work it out among themselves.
I agree with Plugson.
Times are changing, Canada just needs to figure out where it lies when the dust settles.
Perhaps we should find some new allies to be "selfless and reliable" for....
Before the dust settles, you mean, EPD. Because the dust buries the ones that remain stuck in the middle while new allegiances are formed.
Strengthen our bonds with EDEN (this is not as easy as we might expect)
or
Search out ways to align with the likes of CoT/eUSA (this gets harder as time passes)
Our plan was to win.. We didn't. Unfortunately we discovered Alfagrem is still alive and well and has very high credit limit which he is just insane enough to use on a game . The UK implemented their plan and our plan for tea in London for the holiday's did not happen.
We have been taught a lesson. No point fighting on and getting ourselves into a even bigger fight. Our allies were consulted and they to planned on us winning.
What allies?
Thank you for this Wilhelm. I would certainly love to see some communication from the CP on this as he remains eerily silent.
I will withhold judgement pending his response to your very rational and well thought out concerns.
hey, if our allies like Portugal were informed and part of the process, and then the plan didn't go the way we all expected, then that's fine. As Exalted says, there's no need for finger pointing if honest oversights were made or the losses could not be expected.
Nevertheless, we should asky why the TW went awry. Should not EDEN have placed some priority blocking NFLD so that it could protect Portugal? Does the alliance have the organization (or interest) to direct its firepower to those on the periphery of the alliance?
I'm not involved in these discussions and am just observing that we went in knowing the potential outcome but didn't have the firepower to prevent the worst from happening. Maybe we are overestimating our current position among our neighbouring allies and less-than-friendlies.
Portugal was informed and involved.
Portugal was informed and involved. x2
Informed and involved in being wiped. Of course.
In that case, Portugal takes the prize for being a 'selfless ally.'
Much respect for them and to the Exec/Congressmen that had the best intentions going in. eCanada gained some good TP points and fun in the last week.
Hindsight is always 20/20.
Thank you to all for the insights. Question though, where is the CP's voice in all of this?
We should do everything we can to help Portugal get Azores back at this point.
An interesting read. So, I must ask, will the CPF be blindly supporting CW's next noob CP candidate because they "feel bad"? Or will they actually man up and support the best choice for eCan? Unfortunately I already know the answer. .
You don't actually.
Where is the Impeachment?
I believe the CP only communicates via weekly address or random Q&A article.
I do not regret putting my support behind Foxfire. That said, I will say that this was a mistake, and if he was deciding to carry on a second term, I feel that he would do better. But since he is not, I currently see an open field at this point in time.
But CP stuff aside, in terms of foreign policy, I am going to be pushing for CoT. Wilhem, the EDEN we knew and loved is dead. It took some time to come to terms with it, but CoT is our best choice to actually have some weight behind us for once.
I know we had players from many countries involved in this spat with the brits, but minimal at best. Smoke had a great breakdown of who showed up, and the answer, not much.
CoT is the way to go
I like the way it is now. CoT looks good on paper, but how many of us will fight for old enemies against long time friends?
Some of our old friends will remain dear to us for awhile, or possibly even forever. Just as there are always Americans fighting for us in all of our battles.
As a nation, there is always the potential for evolution. It is possible to change allegiances, if done correctly. We should not abandon any allies, but that is not entirely the same thing as separating ourselves from them via "due process."
But this decision is not a rash one, nor one reserved entirely for the CDC.
The last three executives have disappointed me and have fallen below my expectations. Hopefully this will change in January.
If you all knew who Foxfire's "other" citizen was back in the day, you wouldn't be ay all surprised by this...
Noob fools....
^ would mind to finish your sentence Rolo?
Btw, you all know that CoT is ONE/TWO right? See: http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/-twogether-we-stand-2180467/1/20 ''Ally of the week: CoT''
I agree with Plugson that we shouldn't wait until ''the dust settle'' but we should wait until EDEn implode tho.
It will be hard for eCanada, and for the old fart, to switch to the opposite Alliance and also for our allies to have friendly relation with us(eCanada) in the ''ennemy'' camp...
And Where is the Impeachment? x2
@ Randall Flagg: Agreed... EDEN is but a shell of what we used to love and admire. Romania splitting up the Ukraine, another EDEN member, with Hungary? Very sad indeed. Nevertheless, that does not mean we run headlong into a camp comprised mostly of enemy nations or those allied with enemy nations. There are still those we call friends.... maybe not powerful ones, but friends nonetheless.
Should we be seeking power and influence, or faithfulness and selflessness? I choose the latter. Seeking power and influence is the opposite of our tenant.... selflessness and reliability?
And paradoxically, by seeking power and influence in CoT, we will get neither ===> we would be a junior member, will very little standing among the Bulgarias of the alliance. And we will lose our reputation (which we have just recently begun to recover) as faithful and reliable among our current friends.
While EDEN may no longer be a viable option, neither is CoT an acceptable one.
Exalted Druid ~ "Hindsight is always 20/20."
Except it's not hindsight when you're told in advance what will happen.
Australia, Ireland, France, USA, Russia, & Germany all neutral now, maybe stick with them? At some point a good option will show up for us all. 😶
Brazil too, but not sure how friendly we are with them.
All of the above would seemingly make a nice core for a new (Anti-TWO) alliance?
Of those listed above, we currently have an MPP with France & Russia. Ireland probably doesn't want one with us, and the US's desires are questionable. We should have one with Germany. Not sure what to think about Australia.
I already gave you full credit for calling it Wally, I just did not want to over emphasize the fact. I voted NO as well, but I really thought we could win at least one of those battles.
lol'd at the realisation 😉
Lol you have no clue xD
Alfagrem he loses he runs off in a snit.
Seen it in Ireland things do not change.
CoT is a failure it is one of my big reasons for leaving the eUSA.
Look at the allies of the eUSA, ePoland and eSpain.
Both of which are solid allies of eSerbia and eHungary.
The eUSA is the eBitch of power hungry countries and if eCanada goes that way you may as well say conquer and keep me wiped because I have my masters to support, eUSA which reports to ePoland and eSpain, which in turn reports to eSerbia and eHungary.....
At that point I am gone fromr eCanada.
I rather be wiped than fight forever for somebody else's bonuses.
I have morals.
I am Technician.
Your CP agreed to this, he then tried to pussy out when the shit hit the fan...
UK, Poland, Serbia, Spain = TWO
Canada was played by TWO and congress rolled over. I don't see CoT's play with Portugal.
IMO traditional allies are worth fighting for, but not in the current state of EDEN. A detestable state.
I don't want to defend Foxfire, but there was a whole lot of "Or else" in the discussions with the UK.
"Do what we want or Poland will wipe you."
"Let us take this region or Poland will wipe you."
"NE us even though we're not NE'ing you or Poland's NE is free in two days and they'll wipe you."
I'm not saying Foxfire was right to roll over, but his major fail at this point isn't his foreign policy it's his complete lack of understanding when it comes to game strategy and keeping people in formed.
When the war with the eUK started he wanted to launch our attack at 8AM EST because he thought we'd be able to fight all day and win, not realizing at all that we'd be starting the fight in their primetime.
This month reminds me a lot of May of 2011. One Candidate ensured the nation he was READY, and when he got elected it became abundantly clear that he was not.
I don't think Foxfire agreed to eUK's plan. He made congress aware of the situation and congress debated from there onwards. I have no idea why the Brits keep trying to pin this on Foxfire. The CPF was against this and most if not all voted no to the NE.
"If you all knew who Foxfire's "other" citizen was back in the day, you wouldn't be ay all surprised by this...
Noob fools...."
I'd love to know who Foxfire's other citizen is, lol.
A lot of the answers to this article has been posted in the CDC and has been available of weeks. The rest is second hand CP couch quarterbacking from people not sitting in the big chair. Entertaining as hell, but all insights enjoyed in hindsight and willfully ignorant of the full events.
A lot of the answers to this article has been posted in the CDC and has been available of weeks x2
@Muglack: Make another run for CP? ^__^
I'm trying not to be ignorant, yet can't help but feel uninformed. I realize plenty happens behind the scenes and much can't be discussed, so all that's left is to accept what is decided for us and be optmistic that sound judgement is being used in that decision making process.
Nevertheless, some reassurance of that sound judgement is still very welcome from our current leaders, even if the whole picture can't be presented to the public.
Particularly when a lot of this revolves around war plans, you are correct it can not be communicated publicly. That being said, Congress should be informed as it is on the CDC. I can't tell if Wilhelm Gunter just woke up from the three week nap, but I had to explain the past Azores and UK battles to him today on the forum. That's just sad.
I just find it insulting as a congressman when we're not even told what is going on as well
"The CPF was against this and most if not all voted no to the NE."
@Michael: 10 people voted No, I know that one of them is me and another being Wally Cleaver, leaving 8 anonymous voters. CPF has a total of 13 members of congress.
Regardless, IMO the final result and the final fault still falls on ALL members of congress.
No, Auk Rest, don't you see what Foxfire is telling you? It's your fault that you don't know what's going on.
Australia, Ireland, France, USA, Russia, & Germany all neutral now, maybe stick with them? At some point a good option will show up for us all. x2
I voted no, that makes 7 CPF drones...
I voted no as well.
I guess the NE never past then and the whole war was just a dream. lol
I was the last person to vote and voted NO.PP Randall was off in RL world at the beginning of the vote and did not direct the NO vote right away. So I am sure some CPF voted yes before getting any direction.
If we had actually managed to win a battle none of this would matter.
