[eUK vCP] My thoughts on starting out in the new world...

A Wook’s view of the game…

Hello all you lovely readers! As vice-President this month, mwcerberus asked me to be active, help out wherever was needed and above all else, write a few articles.

I’ll admit this is only my second article this term, so I’ve not kept up my end of the bargain on that front yet, but I hope to get back on track from here on in.

Damn it man...don’t just sit there!!

As a relative noob to eRep, despite already being the eUK CP and vCP, I thought it would be useful for me to write something that might persuade younger players to continue on with this game, despite everything the game does to dissuade them.

I started playing eight months ago and came into this new world without a bleedin’ idea what was going on, no clue how to succeed and absolutely no plan of action.

On joining I was inundated by messages telling me to join this party or that one, with offers of weapons or food supplies, but I had no knowledge of how the game worked or what these weapons or supplies would mean.

Would I be selling my soul if I joined New Era? Would I have lost my way to be a member of The Unity Party? I had no idea.

The one good point of reference I was given by one of the many messages I was sent was a link to Kravenn’s guide for new players. This at least gave me a chance to understand the basics of how the game works, but it doesn't go far enough.

I still haven’t got a scooby…

What I should have been told….

What was never instilled in me by anyone ‘in charge’ at the time, was the need to train and build my strength up instead of levelling up faster than a greased tortoise on crack.

It needs to become part of the welcoming routine for new players that experience is not important at the start. It should be pointed out that it is better to rule the roost in the lower divisions, rather than become the weakest ever player in Division 4.

Hopefully if this is implemented by future regimes we will have a much tougher bunch of fighters throughout the divisions. When those players do finally reach Div 4, they’ll be able to pack a punch; unlike someone like myself whose only chance of winning a Battle Hero medal at this stage is by hoarding a shedload of big bombs and energy bars and going all in up to my elbows in one round of a minor battle.

An elbow...for the uninitiated…

However if you are a new(ish) player who’s thinking “what’s the point then? I’ve already made mistakes”, well look at me as an example. It’s not all about being a massive tank. Take a chance, write some articles, get involved in government.

Who would’ve thought I could have become President after only 6 months playing the game? Pretty much nobody actually. I did do it though and despite many older heads believing Armageddon was upon us, the eUK survived. We actually had some pretty good fun during my term….but I’m getting distracted.

The point is, if you’re a brand spanking new account, train hard, but don’t fight too much. If you’re a slightly older account like mine, become a valued part of the eUK in other ways. If you’re a really old, decrepit account like, for instance, Iain Keers, then there’s nothing I can do for you. Life is simply not worth living and you may as well pack it all in and transfer all your gold and currency to me. Right now.

I would like to see this in my account soon, thank you Mr Keers…

I hope this makes some sort of sense and that we get some new young tanks of the future coming through the ranks….but slowly!

I’m going to go back to writing incoherent waffle from now on (“What was this then?” shouts the smart arse at the back).
