The State of the eUK, and Where Is It Heading?

So this is me approaching the end of my second month here in the eUK and Erepublik in general and I have to say I am happy with what I have achieved for myself so far. Congressman for PCP, Vice President of PCP, Ambassador to eBelgium and eIreland, 2 battle hero achievements and a few decorations for damage and kills, ranked National Force and 70% of the way there for my first 100mil damage and finally 6 articles released with a couple even reaching top 5 for a while.
I read the wiki, my party feed, my friends feed, mu feed, a lot of articles and if I am not in irc talking then I'm in there listening and reading. A lot of what I read is TUP this NE that and now a little spatter of DC but a lot of PTO. From what I understand of the UK's position it is that, we are a nation in decline and just happen to be a good staging zone for forays into USA. I don't know our position in Sirus and the global stage but I get the feeling that we used to be a big fish and now we just happen to be a little fish caught up in the good old days but hey like I said ive only been here 2 months so I could be wrong.
What I don't understand is why we are caught up in a power struggle with two parties and that most people feel NE is the bad guy plotting to take over and TUP is an elitist giant ran by a few who want to hold all the power to themselves. Am I reading to much biased material or is this really the most simplistic view of the eUK? If it is true why do the other top 3 parties not form a coalition to combat these other parties?
This is my first term in congress and nothing has been discussed at all so far but I have received a link asking me to vote for a speaker and may I point out the person sending it was from DC. Aswell as asking who I vote for speaker this link also has the following questions,

Now I can only assume that this member of DC created these questions but they not only asked if NE should be excluded but also there own members which straight away is a good sign for me. Personally I trust DC I talk to a few of them in IRC and they seem like genuine people who care for the eUK although I will say what they done was unfair on those in TUP who wanted a higher placing on the list. And while I am on this subject I will also say they had no sort of primary or seeding system for congress lists and so DC when you look at it have done nothing wrong technically as MWC, a legally appointed official PP has not violated any TUP policies on lists, the argument therefore is not that they PTO'd TUP or broke any rules, the argument is purely a moral one.

Last month congress granted 46 passes , not even 50% were use by New Era only 18 passes were used meaning 28 was used by the other parties , since 2009 over 3800 members have been let into the UK.
New Era has never used congress passes in such a way to boost party numbers until now will the threat of PTOer http://prntscr.com/3d3w6o quite clearly set out by Kravenn New Era will use their passes to protect the party , we have all rights to use our passes as WE see fit , this is not legal , this is in the game rules an it been happen since the game begin, this is a game. New Era is using passes as a political protest against the New alliance which was rushed into and we would rather have Serbia on our side than Poland, this is political not using the game to spite a few members like the Dentist did, New Era is open and honest party and we are a POLITICAL party with the most seat voted by the members of the UK, if New Era gets banned we will start our own congress mails with members who wish to carry on speaking to us in a mature manner for the good of the country, the only people who have PTO is Dentist. This mail will be sent to all good congress members, I won't deal with or reply to Domestic Terrorist who have made a mockery of congress this month already.

Now this to me looks bad and like he is trying to divert attention away from NE by pointing fingers at Kravenn and TUP as well as DC and that he is also attempting to split congress this month.
Now I am all for wiping the slate clean and starting anew this month and giving everyone a fair go but then I thought to myself actually no why bother its only going to get thrown back in my face. So as for the third and fourth questions above I mentioned I voted Yes to number 3 and No to number 4.
I actually decided to write this article after reading this article. I personally see this article as my fellow congressman Mr Appleby basically blowing his own trumpet taking credit for misguided votes and in the most laymen of terms talking crap. I felt the need to respond to that article because to me Mr Appleby sensed an opening in the market for him and to try and step in and assert himself and catapult his party to the top spot. I get the feeling that if this was to happen then in six months time I would be writing a similar article condemning his party.
I initially intended to write a shorter more concise article but I have the habit of rabbiting on unfortunately. The main crux of this is that we as an individual, as a party and as a nation must rise up and reclaim our country from this political divide that threatens tear us apart completely and wholeheartedly. I personally view a Serbian PTO of the UK as the same as a TUP big brother pulling all the strings. I do not have high hopes for this term of Congress given that it has been set up to fail already given Commander Dapper's mail. What I do hope is for instead is to open up dialogue between the upper echelons of PCP, WRP, UKRP, UKPP, ESO and basically any influential citizen that is concerned about the state of the UK and where it appears to be heading and how we as a collaborative group can provide a course correction and try and steer the UK towards a less abysmal future.

Great article mate, you've articulated the main challenges facing the eUK and especially Congress at this time.
There is some difficulty with MWC's Congress list, because many candidates - including Zaphod, a PCP man who has just been elected Speaker of Congress (*hot off the presses exclusiv😉 - came in from other parties. He didn't break the game mechanics or rules, but I understand why many TUP members felt betrayed by MWC or offended by the Dentists.
There is also a question of timing when we're facing a Serbian PTO, as seen in Dapper's message he has used DC's actions very much against them. Of course, a large part of the DC's actions was anti-TUP elite resistance, and this was going to be Kravenn's 50th Congress medal: it had to happen this month!
Onwards, anyway!
This was all planned many months ago, 50 congress medals is a rather big milestone. It ain't DC who have bad timing, our timing was perfect, it's these bloody Serbs...

I can understand their difficulty with the list but I think that TUP's reaction has blown it all out of the water and it was not proportional in the slightest. This Serbian PTO has been an ongoing issue since I joined and I fear that it shall be until the day they succeed or people stop letting them into the country.

Welcome to the shitstorm. Always remember the story is not as simple as people will try and tell you. Now I am biased, but I try to remove my bias as much as possible when I publish articles etc. That being said, I have a near endless loathing for commander dapper, largely based on how he behaves in official positions. At the same time, TUP is used to being in charge and doesn't like that to change. So we have a party run by a lunatic (in my opinion) and another run by some decent people who have just gotten more than a little stuck in their positions (and become nasty to defend it). Once again, I am biased.
Never had any kind of interaction with the guy my view is based on what I have seen NE do with my own eyes and what they have said in articles and such so Its not that I dislike him personally I just dislike how they appear to be operating.
It's fine, I just was putting it out there.

They PTO us they then they mess up the country rob and bleed it dry? Don't get me wrong I'm not saying that's what TUP does but from what I've seen the only thing they will rob is your free will
I mean no offence, but I genuinely chuckled. I like you, no going to lie, but for the record, TUP isn't a soulless monster intending to eat your free will.
However, you are spot on with the Serbs.
I joined TUP when I first joined erepublic and it did seem a tad cliquish. And TUP as a whole may not be soulless but there does seem to be a few high ranking members whose main priority is themselves and keeping themselves in power. The general feeling I got was too what you are told basically but that is my own personal opinion and I could be wrong I may have just caught people on a off day lol.
Indeed, an apt comparison can be made between NE and TUP. As popular parties, they are full of citizens of the eUK with great intentions for the nation's future. But their leadership is sometimes off - sometimes WAY off.
Really well written, Kieran. As a new player myself, I find the whole Political model of this game broken and not of much use. It seems very easy to subvert and it seems a lot (the majority?) of people who run for office just want the medal(s) and have no desire/clue to do what they're meant to be doing. It's too f*cked up for me and I can see why the majority of new players just give up after a few months, which of course just helps preserve the status quo. The new people leave and the cliques who have been fighting with each other for God knows how long continue and nothing ever changes.
It has been being said for years, but bringing back regional congress voting with candidates having to be voted in on their own, not just because they sit on a list in a party, is one way the political model could have a good shake up again. Also promotes activity as they have to actively campaign yada yada
Sam, I completely agree that constituency elections could solve some problems but I think there should be more restrictions on citizenship and moving region to counterbalance it. At the moment you can travel all around the world at the drop of a hat, I'm thinking perhaps that your CS and location are recorded say 7 days before Congress and you are registered to vote there. PP and CP obviously work differently, but to avoid that whole last minute floating voters thing, which was fun to me but a pain in the ass to many coordinators.
As political parties don't really have any powers other than congress elections and CP nominations its not surprising the political module doesn't work. None of the parties really stand for anything and as such they just become cliques for running congress candidates
Feel free to organize things without TUP and without NE, it is your democratic right to try to run with this project.
But please take in mind that TUP and NE together have roughly the same amount of members as all the other parties in the top 10. While membership numbers do not say a lot, in the least it does give an indication that this would exclude a rather large part of the eUK community.
TUP, as the biggest party and having a few of the players that have taken up responsibilities in a lot of governments, has for sure made faults and have at times prioritized the wrong things. But then again, everyone that has for a long time a certain power or responsibility looses at a certain point his focus. In fact, there are many players that are not in TUP, on which the same blame can be put.
Should these moments be named and fought again? yes, for sure
Does this mean that TUP and its long standing tradition to serve eUK is bad? for sure NOT
