Multi Explosion [Election Review]

Yesterdays Presidential election has exposed an explosion in the usage of multiple accounts for political purposes. You can see from the graph below the numbers of votes discounted by the admins once their investigation period was complete. Along the right hand side I’ve added the number of multi votes disregarded for each candidate.

All candidates except Mirek received votes from multis. Moomoohead received the vast majority of them and indeed would have won the election were it not for the admins vetting system. This is the first election in Ireland where that anti-cheating system has lead to a reversal of fortunes for the candidate in the lead at the end of the 24 hour voting period.
This is a significant increase in multi voting. It would have amounted to about 10% of the vote being swayed by cheating. Thankfully the admins have introduced a vetting procedure to deal with theses situations and alert us to such actions. What’s even more worrying however is the scale of the cheat. The number of attempted multi votes have doubled compared to the October Presidential election and TRIPLED since the admins anti-cheating measure was first introduced.

Without a doubt we’ve a multi problem that is worsening and I’m sure OJ will need to take some investigative steps towards identifying any multis which may have avoided the admins steely gaze this time round.

Unless there is convincing evidence, I would refrain from directly accusing the candidates themselves for involvement.
Some will do well to remember Top Gun's illegal use of other players' accounts to multi vote with, of his own accord, which led to the banning of many unsuspecting players at the time.

Plenty of players get so involved in campaigns that they feel the need to cheat. Maybe the multi controller had a low opinion of the other candidates for some reason. Sometimes the multis are just hanging around... they have to vote for someone! It's abit irresponsible to jump to the conclusion that the candidate themselves is involved without anything to back it up.
aye Kolshire, I got a serious fright after that was exposed. Maybe TopGun is still lurking around somewhere... duh duh duuuuuuh
Granted, thats true but that aside, there isnt any proof that they are actually innocent of it either. Even if it was not them, I'd put money on them knowing the people behind the multies that voted for them.

Most disheartening indeed. Well, I'm glad the admins have been able to improve their ability at catching these multies. Glad to see honesty being re-instated in our election process.

I said to myself looking at where things were at last night around half ten, that there were multiple accounts voting. It's interesting that the admins were acting mid-election as well. It's a positive and a negative I guess. At the end of the day, reporting multiple accounts is nonsense, its easy enough to get around. There needs to be some preventative measures, such as not being able to log on by proxy, not to mention proper sanctions like blocking ip addresses for repeat offenders. It's the biggest single exploit in the game, and it has been and is absolutely rampant.
Not to mention knowledge of or aiding and abetting multiple account usage should also result in a permanent ban. It amounts to the same thing. And screenshots of irc conversations should be accepted as evidence. Having worked as an admin before, you know if a screenie has been tampered with, so it shouldnt be a big deal.
What can I say, I have a vendetta against multiple accounts.

I would like to know how they are excluding people. Somehow I have trust issues with their professionalism....

btw I haven't included the drop that occured mid-election in the numbers featured as I presumed that was an error on the part of the tracking site. I've never heard of admin action mid election but that would certainly be another interesting occurance.
@e-Kane : I'm presuming it refers to the US SC decision shortly after the first GW Bush election 😛
the first spike was a glitch. Look at other CP races in other countries and you see the same spike at that time. the secound spike was the majority of the multi voing I recieved.
haha who multi voted for me!? Why on earth would you risk being banned for a candidate who said not to vote for him1?! crazy.

I was astonished when I found out about this. Fair play to OJ for winning. I'm sure he didn't want to win in this manner though.

Um, I think it's probably more likely that there is just a higher detection rate since the anti-cheating measures were introduced, not that there are a higher number of multi votes.
