He was 1ronman - the story of eCan's original tank and supervillain
Captain Salty Kushskins
The truth is that every intelligent man, as you know, dreams of being a gangster and of ruling over society by force alone. As it is not so easy as the detective novels might lead one to believe, one generally relies on politics and joins the cruelest party. What does it matter, after all, if by humiliating one's mind one succeeds in dominating every one? I discovered in myself sweet dreams of oppression.
It was October 12, 2008.
The V1 era had just begun two days prior, when a bored
Their rise within eRepublik was meteoric. By December of that year, they would be elected to their first term in Congress, starting a run of 5 consecutive terms. From the stretch of December 2008 - December 2009, they would be elected 10 times.
1ronman served a number of roles during this time, as both a politician and military commander. Minister of Defense, Minister of Public Safety, Vice-President, and high command jobs with our international alliances EDEN and the Brolliance.
He was one of my first friends in the game. I remember 1ronman as somebody who cared a lot about the community, who worked hard to distribute food and weapons and who wanted to make eCanada strong. He was a tank before men like Temubutt burst onto the scene. People respected him.
In the summer of 2010, as V1 was drawing to a close, 1ronman was gearing up for a run at CP. Activity in eCanada during this time was perhaps as high as its ever been. With a robust metagame full of hardcore roleplayers and packed IRC rooms, 1ronman and eRepublik both seemed to be on track to realize their full potential.
Unfortunately, this run would end before it began with a startling revelation. A CSIS investigation during the Presidency of Dade Pendwyn revealed that 1ronman had abused his admin privileges on the eCan forums to read countless private messages. This access allowed him to discover organizational passwords, which then were used to steal thousands of gold.
Banished from EDEN and ostracized in eCanada, he would flee to Serbia - a superpower and arch-rival at the time. There would be no penitence or atonement. He would return to eCanada a short time later, reinvented as a troll. Buoyed by his burning lust for a certain eCanadian succubus he would rustle jimmies until his sudden disappearance from the game. #secretz. Project Mayhem. The TCO vs CAF feud. These memories bring a smile to this author's face.
Some say his account was sold, perhaps controlled by the same person as JBD. Perhaps the full truth of the rise and fall of 1ronman will never be known.
His account is quiet now; his profile a mute witness to the tale of perhaps Canada's most reviled villain. In an era of rampant strength and damage inflation, his 3K strength and rank of General** is an interesting contrast to his many dozens of BH medals. His news articles remain, their comment sections detailing a tragicomic dichotomy of love and hate.
Our tanks now have 100K strength and are capable of dropping billions of damage. Echoes of Temubutt's heuheus and wkwkwkwks can't drown out the adoration he now receives.
Fellow claimant to the supervillain throne, Rolo Tahmasee, still plays and remained a powerful and respected (albeit tremendously polarizing) figure in eCanada.
What could have happened had 1ronman stayed. We'll never know. He, like many other great figures of V1, died long ago.
(Disclaimer: My activity levels waxed and waned throughout this period of time and so much of this story has been pieced together from my hazy memories and trips through old articles and the Wiki. I make no claims to the accuracy or verity of this article.)

Great article. I love reading about hijinks during eRep's hayday.
good stuff
\o/
Excellent stuff, oh the memories...
Good read is good.
Kokobobolobaditaduuuuu
I remember thinking up the same credo I hold to today. The more glorious the character one portrays on the Internet, the more of an ass they turn out to be in the end. A simple formula actually.
I would agree. Bravado and rhetoric make poor substitutes for character. It takes a certain kind of courage to lead silently.
--- *Leads silently* 😛
Where's that leave me ralphie
The ass eCanada needed, not the one they deserved.
Or is it the other way around.
Didn't know him, but I heard about him and what he had done when I started playing.
Nice article Kushskins.
Ahhh - Good Times
JBD controlled 1ronman for a time, the account was sold by JBD to some Pakistani player, then stolen back by another player, This guy, used the same method to access the 1ronman account that was used to steal the eCanadian treasury a 2nd time (The one that few know or heard about) during the Aeriala Presidency....
This guy is also the likely the last player to have ever signed into the famous 1ronman account.....
Memories...
Ah, that explains the Pakistan avatar he has now, was wondering about that. Thanks for filling in some details.
Adding that to the list of things Aeriala was involved/connected with that pissed off eCan. "She" could get her own article.
So much effort.
Just to get another comment..
Give one back, please:

Man this brings me back
I didn't know them.
As active as I was back then, I don't think I ever fully grasped the meaning of what he had done. I wasn't active on IRC so I wasn't part of a lot of the back and forth that would have gone on then with him.
I do remember that was when I realized something else about this game... the brighter the flame, the quicker it burns out. I would be proven wrong about that a couple of times but generally it holds. 😛
All too true sir. 🙁 I very nearly quit myself from burnout. I had to take a big step back, decouple from government service, and even take a much longer break from forum administration than I initially intended to reach a level of activity I find sustainable. Being an MU commander is about as much activity as I can afford to put into the game these days.
Thanks for the memories. I remember 1ronman and Coda as eCanada's protectors in those days. He probably wasn't all bad but I never really knew him well.
We were a lot less jaded back then so it was a big deal. Now it would probably blow over in a few weeks and he'd be CP in a few months if he played it right.
Jbdivinus did become CP.
So JBD=1ronman? I think I dropped out for a while around then.
For all I know, that eCanadian succubus is the one really, really, really behind it all ; )
The original 1ronman gave the account to JBD when he quit playing. JBD sold it, then a Hero and Patriot stole it back from that guy for lulz

Would have expected more hate in the comments below if I correctly read what you said he did. You're a forgiving lot.
Oh, the people he burned are still bitter about it, but it's also been 4 years, tempers cool. At least mine did. I'm not one for holding a grudge, once he was no longer in a position to do more damage, I wasn't so upset about it all.
At the end of the day, it's a game and grudges are more likely to end up being wasted energy. No matter how much you shake your fist it's possible nothing will come of it, whereas you could be using them to rebuild what was damaged.
Exactly MaryChan, it was much better to turn my efforts to repairing the damage, and building something new, than being mad about what I couldn't change.
People were pretty upset, from what I remember. But time heals all wounds.
Ah memories. There was a personal side benefit to the 1ronman debacle. No it didn't lead to more forum admin powers or anything. 1ronman sold me a Q4 food company, back when Q4 food was still a BIG DEAL. Months before everything went south or property was stolen.
He did me a solid, sold it to me for far less than it was worth at the time, with the difference to be paid as I earned medals. I owed him like 130 gold at first and payed off I think 50 of that as I earned gold in game. Then this happened, he quit, and I effectively got a company for about 80 gold less than it was worth.
I still have that food company, now upgraded to Q5. 1ronman's old food company, dating back to v1, provides all the food to the Captains of Industry MU to this day!
Oh the cloak and dagger histories that could be written.
Great read!
lol, I do remember some of the characters from the old days..... thanks for the good read! 🙂
You remember glorious stuff. 🙂
I don't have glorious stuff, mine is kinda dumb.
Like for instance the time I kept calling Emerick Emerdick on the US forum. PIZ (the admin) finally told me to stop or he'd have to ban me because too many people were complaining. He didn't buy the story that the "r" key was real close to the "d" key. 😃
That's it, cool off period of 48 hours.
